83% of critics have liked it so far on RT, it’s certified fresh (GotG2 had similar numbers).

I know there are people who are going to be disappointed when it doesn’t get Black Panther numbers, but that was lightning in a bottle. I’m just hoping to see a good movie Thursday that lets me leave with a smile on my face.

Not going to lie, at this point, the critics loving it has me a tad worried if I will like it.

Very much so apparently. Seems that most the time critics really like a movie, I can't stand it.

That may be perception bias in that when critics pan a movie you like, you tend to remember that more than when they liked what you liked.

You can test it: Think of your top ten favorite movies and then look up the critics' ratings.

Could be. Just thinking of how of the Marvel movies, my least favorites are Black Panther, Guardians, Ant Man, etc., which have some of the better reviews. Some of my favs definitely got good marks, but some of them (the ones where it's just stupid fun) get crushed. I also admit part of it is me linking critics to the Academy Awards as well. Anyways, all in jest. I'm excited for this one. I just rely 0 on what critics say at this point.

I enjoyed Black Panther but I think the critic score of 97% is way too high. The 79% from the audience is closer to reality imo with the highest I’d go being like 85%.

You and I are going to need to agree to disagree about Black Panther ;)

Anyways I think I’m just going to push my GotG viewing for the weekend, since it takes place after CM.

admitting my inner nerd. I actually have an excel file with over 1100 movies my family and friends have seen. I keep critics scores and scores of around 20-25 friends and family. I think create comparisons and such to predict what movies they should watch. I have to agree with LSLS first statement, more often then not a high critical score leads to poor scores with my friends and family (maybe we are just too bland of people...although I think we really have a huge array of people, as it is hard to find a movie that everybody loves). Not always true, but more often then not. I keep lowering the weight of the critics scores when deciding how to determine the best movies in my collection (again inner nerd...but there was a somewhat non nerdy reason it started). The critics scores were skewing it too much since it didn't reflect what most people thought. I still wanted to include it, cause it gives every movie a similiarity (as there is no movie that everybody has watched in my collection.) But then again, most people I know decide if they like a movie based on how much they enjoyed watching it (yeah sounds obvious) but I have found many (I won't say most) critics base their thoughts on a movie based on the message it sends, or the groundbreaking this or that...and not how much they actually enjoyed the movie.

You think it deserves the 97 or just that it should be in the 90’s?

Not meaning to pry or start something. Just curious where the disagreement stands exactly.

I thought what set Marvel above the rest was that it wasn't just beat'm up fun, but that there was a social message behind the characters and their stories. That's why I thought it was a good pairing with Disney- there's fun, but in that fun, there's art and morality.

Marvel movies have excelled because they have been character-driven and story-driven, with just the right amount of humor and fun, and not just action/shoot-em-up fests.

I definitely agree. The movie was good, not great. It was a solid entry in the MCU but it wasn't even close to best picture.

Speaking of Best Picture is it just me or is it kind of predictable some years? Right when I saw the trailer for Green Book I thought to myself “I bet this wins.” I did think it looked interesting but maybe when it’s on Netflix.

Going off something my son found but supposedly the two end of credit scenes from Capt Marvel leaked online,
they were quickly taken off by Disney supposedly. The two end credit scenes are supposedly something of a nature of how Capt. Marvel shows up and wonders where is Nick Fury and why is the pager on the ground.... and one is her cat coughing up the tesseract......

again, I did not see the videos, but this is supposedly leaked
