Captain EO

I'd like to remind everyone that the same year EO debuted was also the year Howard the Duck was released, and a few years later Godfather Part III was released. Of course, Godfather Part III isn't as bad as Jack, but still not that good either.

OK, so being one of the few fans of EO of my generation who never got to a chance to experience the original run (I was born the year the film was released) I have to say I make a point to see the show every time I visit Epcot. Sure it's a bit cheesy, sure it's a bit outdated, but don't forget this is a product of the 80's, things were a bit different back then. One of the things that really caught my attention the first time I saw the film was all the detail that went into making it. Between all the costumes, the make-up, the choreography, heck even the first hints of CGI, there was a lot put into this film. Now look at films today, they are $250 Million+ movies that most of the time have a lackluster script with amazing effects. The problem for me is, yeah it looks great but everything was just done with computers. All we need to do these days is throw an actor in a motion capture suit and the artists do the rest. To me, Captain EO is more of an educational film about how movies were made back in the day and I love it. Lastly, the big factor here is we all know that Disney usually has two options when it comes to attractions at Epcot. Either bring back something or close the building and if you ask me I'd rather them keep EO around until they decide to refurb the entire pavilion and not try to just crowbar HISTA back into the Imagination pavilion. So yeah, there's my EO rant. I know a lot of people out there just don't care for the attraction and that's fine but there are a few of us out there who do love it and want it to stick around as long as (realistically) possible, because we all know once it's gone a 2nd time there really isn't a chance of it coming back.

Captain EO makes me want to rip my ears off my head and spoon out my eyeballs.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!

With all the negative publicity surrounding MJ before he died, I felt it in very bad taste for Disney to bring back this gawd awful attraction just to increase turnstile numbers. It was terrible when it was new and its down right embarrassing now. This abomination needs to go now, I'd rather see an empty shell of a building collecting dust (a la WoL) than to have this craptastic show continue running.

Wow, don't you think that's a bit much? I mean I thought The Avengers (aka Transformers in Tights) was mediocre and was sitting there the whole time waiting for the TV audience laugh track to kick in, but you don't see me clamoring for Disney to cancel the other two movies and reboot it(like they would anyway);) If you don't like it, then don't go and after the attendance drops enough they will pull a WOL on it but don't be surprised if they do the same thing to Journey. I mean why keep one but not the other? More cost cutting if anything.

That analogy doesn't really fit since none of the actors in The Avengers were accused of child molestation. The fact that MJ was tied up in litigation over his child molestation charges for many years should have been enough for Disney to distant themselves from him as much as possible and never associate themselves with him or his image ever again, since it goes against everything that the Disney name stands for. But instead, when he died suddenly everyone forgot how much of a sick individual he was and decided they liked him again and Disney jumped on the bandwagon and brought this terrible show back to squeeze a few extra guests thru the turnstiles. The whole situation surrounding MJ and the return of this terrible show is why I feel the attraction should be mothballed and left empty rather than continue another day.

Ok, so the reason you don't like the show is because of the "alleged" (Don't forget he was found not guilty) accusations surrounding MJ? That doesn't seem like a fair way to judge something. That's like saying I don't enjoy the taste of a Chick-fil-a sandwich because of what happened with the CEO of the company. As far as Disney squeezing money out of MJ fans with the re-release, don't they do the same thing with Dreamfinder and Figment? "Hey, let's put this icon that everyone from the 80's loves on this T-shirt, we'll make a killing".

Well OJ Simpson was found not guilty as well, but its widely believed now that he was in fact guilty. I feel the same way about MJ!! While MJ may have been found not guilty in a court of law it doesn't mean that he was entirely innocent, it just means he had better lawyers. Yes, I'm saying I have no faith in the US justice system when it comes to prosecuting the rich and famous.

Look I'm not trying to turn this into a debate, I just think MJ is not an appropriate icon for the Disney brand and think his image should be removed.

I don't necessarily HATE michael jackson, but the thought of him in Disney World just irks me. The controversy surrounding him, despite what you believe, just isn't very Disney-like. All celebrities have a shelf life and I think his expired in the 80s. I can stomach his music, so I watched Captain EO the last time I was at Epcot and it felt like I was put into a bad time machine and dropped off in hell.

I Heard That Captain EO is permanent... I would love for this to happen because i never liked HISTA. Thoughts?
I loved HISTA! This is very bad news (to me). HISTA used effects not found in Eo, like shaking the audience and it had a much better story behind it and humor. Maybe I'm just prejudice because I'm an Eric Idle and Monty Python fan!

No, HISTA is the better overall experience. And it rounds out the pavilion pretty well, too.
