Can They Expand??

It's not something that Disney is going to state.

So it's you opinion. That's fine, I just don't agree. I think Disney like the draw of free dining to bring in guest. I think it frees money up that would be spent on food that the guest spend on other areas of WDW. Lords know we do :)

It's not my opinion and you can see it discussed quite a bit. Disney themselves have discussed wanting to end the heavy discounts, and free dining is one of the bigger discounts they just will not come out and frankly state the problems because that is just how the a Company operates. Just shifting spending doesn't increase spending or reduce expenses, nor has Disney been able reignite retail (and dining) spending the way Universal has done.

No offense but to me it is your opinion and just because it is discussed by other does not change that. If Disney wanted to stop offering it they could, but they just released it again last week so it appears to me they do not.

I really do not care to get into a debate on it, this is not the topic of this thread at all. Rather they offer it or not we will go to Uni in the future so it really does not matter to me personally. We pay for the DDP so it being free does not effect me there either.

If Disney thought they would draw a similar number of guests without the free dining, they would stop offering it.

Oh no doubt. I certainly would if I were them. I don't see the numbers that Disney sees but they either offer DDP or room discounts to a very large number of their guest. I am sure they would love to do away with both and keep the guest but that is not going to happen. We took either and were happy, I was never one to break out the abbacus to work out which was better for us. Now that we are venturing into DVC we will no longer get either.

I bet you won't be dining at as many Disney locations now that you are not on the DDP, when paying cash the food becomes less of value and not worth the price they are charging.

I was not clear enough, we will be buying the DDP but not getting it free as we will not be staying at the resorts that offer free dining because of DVC. We are big fans of the DDP, be it free or paying OOP for it. We have it next month OOP when we go and when we go back in Jan 2015 we will buy it again. We like to stay within the Disney bubble for our tips as a rule so if we want to eat it's gotta be at a Disney place :) Value is subjective, it is worth it to us, other it's not.

Disney wants 90% filled hotel rooms paying rack rate plus paying for their food plus getting park tickets. They don't give things away because they want to.

My point was Disney does not hate the DDP as it clearly drive guests to the resorts and parks. It also frees up money for guest to spend on other things besides food in the parks. Maybe a more expensive room, maybe more booze, maybe more hats or whatever. Nobody thinks Disney does it to be kind, it's good business to do it and nothing more. Any business would love to sell product at full price without any incentives.

Go read the threads on here about it, people love the free DDP, it excites them. That's good business for Disney or any company to have excited customers. That's why it would not surprise me to see Uni do something like it to drive guest excitement. Like I posted earlier Uni already changed their dinning plan format to mirror the Disney plan. Clearly they see something in the Disney way they want to emulate.

Geez you guys get way off topic so easily...

Talking about paying to park at hotels or the Disney dining plan...what does any of that have to do with Universal being able to expand?

Speaking of THAT topic, I wonder exactly which plots of land are holding out on selling to Universal which are currently keeping them from the new expansion...

I don't think anyone is "holding out" on them. I don't have my data in front of me, but I want to say like 90% of that land is held by the same person/company (Stanley Thomas/FQP).

Pretty coomon on any thread to get off topic. Just the human mind at work in different posters :)

They did indeed. There is no good plan to end it and not make it seem bad. Hence the catch 22.

Why not just end it? Not offer it going forward? It's not complex, if it is not returning money to the bottom line don't offer it any more. I don't think there would be much of a PR hit for stopping it from the general public, nothing long term anyways.

I think it is because it drives business and the ROI is good for the parks. I do not think they have any desire to end it from a real world business perspective. It's an incentive that cost them but In returns drives business to offset that cost.

Does anybody have anything to post showing the cost or ROI on it? At this point all we have is our opinions it seems.
