Can They Expand??

The problem is Disney is trying to squeeze more money out of people per trip. Free food is counted against the price of the room so Disney's room revenue drops. Yes in bad period such as after 9/11 you just need to fill the rooms some how so free dining whatever will do the trick. Problem now is there is probably a large amount of people simply won't come to WDW unless they get free dining, cancel free dining and those people won't come until the offer comes back. Disney has boxed themselves into a never ending room discount deals, dining, package deals etc. Almost everyone who comes to WDW is getting some sort of a deal. Disney's goal is to get more money out of every single person and no the fact that I got a room discount would not effect my spending anywhere else at WDW. The average family is on a budget and they will find the best deal for them, they won't raise their spending on other things. Realize for the cost of a family going to WDW for a week is equal to a decent used car, boat, motorcycle, camper, snowmobile, 4 wheeler. WDW is a one shot deal where as the rest of things will last you for years.

I guess it is all in how you view it. We booked CBR this year, WDW released the room discounts so we changed to BW. Did Disney come out ahead with that? Not sure because I now have a BW room at less than full rate, could WDW have rented that same room at full rate and thus made more money? Who knows...that resort is now full the week we are there so no real way to tell what that room would have rented for in the end.

Of course Disney like any company wants to get as much money as possible out of each customer, that is smart business and any successful company does the same. I am sure they dislikes offering discounts of all kinds, again like any business. I doubt Ford and GM love giving the endless rebates they give out for new cars. I am sure Disney would love to stop all advertising cost as well but of course they can't as that drive revenue to the parks. Losing free dining would cost them guest, that is why they keep it no doubt. But the fact is that free dinning does draw guest in to the Disney parks where they do spend money, and I am convinced they spend some of the money they no longer have to spend on food in the parks. Just my .02. Like I said we will not benefit from free dinning again so I have no personal interest in it's future. But I still can see Uni running a similar program to draw in guest. They now have a dinning program almost exactly like the one at Disney so it would be easy to set up.

Just my opinion but I have not seen anything to point in a different direction, in fax trust the opposite with the latest wave of free dinning being released. It's here to stay for the immediate future IMO. But they could honor the current offer and never offer it again, who knows....

Some of the people on here work at Disney or universal and some are fairly high up. They do know what's going on but they can't say very specific statements because it's inside info, it's possible to lose your job over releasing inside info. For that matter you could even get the SEC after you if you said something major.

Again I am not buying into information as "fact" from unknown people on a internet forum who use screen names as IDs. I don't know you, you don't know me so excuse me if I do not "take your word for it" or anybody else on here of that matter.

I am active on a number of firearm forums as well, and when the "former Navy Seals/Green Berets/Marine Force Recon/Delta Force" guys so up on there with their "I can't tell you any more due to the classified nature of it" post I don't believe them either.

If you are going to come on a internet forum and post something as fact but refuse to provide any link to show it as such expect to get push back on it. I do not think that is out of line, asking for proof. Do you?

Bob Iger has repeatedly assured stock holders that they would be scaling back the discounting including "free dining".

They keep waiting later and later to announce their free dining offers. They do this to judge booking occupancy load and if it's below the threshold they offer free dining to sweeten the pot. Unfortunately Disney fans know this. They wait to book. They have gotten into an established cycle. And even with that, they are having trouble reaching their occupancy goals. As a matter of fact, they are offering 30% off of rooms along with free dining. We are not far off of them offering "free $200 gift cards".

That's what they did in the UK for 2013 and 2014 holidays.

In fact, last year, you could get 35% off SSR/OKW, free dining AND a $200 gift card.

Only reason that we are not going to SSR this year is because the hotel was not available for our dates (Nov/Dec) until after the offer finished (probably because they are DVC) - any other time of the year and we would have been there.

That is a sweet triple discount deal :)

I see Universal expanding, but not City Walk. People are saying City Walk Phase 2. That would mean something there has to be eliminated.
Just look right across Kirkman Road. The Major Blvd area. A couple hotels that could be purchased and converted or cleared for more space. And a ton of empty open space all the way back to the turnpike. Universal has a keen eye on this property and has the resources to buyout current residence.

Like I said I see Universal Expanding beyond it's location but not Citywalk at it's current location. . Citywalk has no room to expand. They'll knock down some restaurants to rebuild . That is not expanding. CityWalk where it is won't be able to expand unless the Valet Parking lot is dismantled. It's labeled city walk expansion when it's really like a renovation lol

There is one large expansion pad between NBA City and Hard Rock Cafe. But other than that, CityWalk is pretty full. But I believe what people are calling CityWalk2 are the rumored plans for the land Universal bought at I-Drive and Universal Blvd.

I do think they will replace NBA City and NASCAR Grille after they wrap up this current redo.

To answer the title question... yes, yes they can.. and unlike TDO, there's concrete plans to put expansion into action. In 10 years, I wouldn't be surprised if both Universal parks equal AK, DHS and Epcot in terms of attendance. Guest spending is through the roof as it is. Both parks can still expand a little. A world class game changing water park and potential 3rd gate on the horizon. Completely renovated Citywalk in 1/4 the time it'll take Disney to finish Disney Springs. New E tickets left and right. Immersive areas. As a theme park fan, couldn't ask for more. Universal is giving the guest what they want. Currently, WDW isn't doing the same. I'm rooting for USF and IOA to top 10 million not because I hate WDW... but because that's the wake up call TDO needs.
