Can I leave the Carousel of Progress during the show?

We're taking our 20 month old girls for their first visit next week. We'll be feeling them out for what they can handle throughout our trip. My question is about the Carousel of Progress. On one hand, I think they'd LOVE it, based on the things they like watching on TV now. But I also think it could just totallly freak them out and start screaming. So my question is, am I able to walk out of the show while in progress? Because if they do freak out, I don't want to make others in the show have to listen to it, but I also don't want to end up in Guantanamo Bay for leaving during the show.

I do remember once while I was on it, a woman took her crying baby and walked out of the back. This was 2 years ago, so she still may be going through questioning by the TSA.

Any thoughts?

Not being directly familiar with the ride system, I can't say for sure, but I'd imagine that someone opening one of the theater doors would cause an intrusion alarm and ride stop. In summary, don't do it.

Well, as I said in my post, I saw a woman walk out with her kid, and no sort of alarm or ride (show) stoppage occured.

Maybe since the show has to do with time travel, she could be floating in some netherworld, or trapped in the past, leaping from life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that her next leap...will be the leap home.

Or maybe she's trying to make sure her parents meet at the high school dance while she plays Johnny Be Goode.

Im pretty sure you can. If Im not mistaken, I think in the opening spiel, the CM says that the exit doors are available to use if they are needed.

If someone can clarify this for me, it'd be nice.

They repeat numerous times to NOT use the exit doors (unless of course, there's a fire or other emergency), they ask you remain seated or leave before the show begins.

Lol, I knew it was something like that! I know they mention it before the ride starts, thanks!

So, there you go, unless its an emergency, don't use them.:D

I've actually done this - about midway through. I was a late teenager and with my mother, we didn't realize we were breaking the rules at the time. We exited to the backside of the building and walked along the circle and were quickly met with several cast members "asking if they could help" (they were pretty nice about it) and escorting us to the correct exit. Looking back, I guess it was because we were alone backstage.

We have exited before during the show and nothing happened. As long as you leave before the theater starts to move you are okay. If the theater is in motion and you open the door it will jerk to a stop.

I believe it would be a VERY BAD IDEA to leave during the show. As Tigger stated, they do tell you to NOT use the exit doors and to remain seated for the entire show. As the theater does rotate when the scenes change, there is the possibility of being CRUSHED if your try to exit and the theater begins to rotate. There are also sensors that are supposed to stop the ride if someone does stand up in the theater (whether they work or not I do not know), which I believe happened once while I was on the ride and the theater came to a grinding halt while rotating.

Leaving the theater is recommended in all of the 3D attractions in the Parks if you need to do so, but only because the theater is stationary. You wouldn't hop out of your log on Splash Mountain because you don't feel like riding anymore (even though I have heard that this actually happens)...

no, no, no when the ride doors are opened during the presentation the ride does not advance to the next segment. We were there in September and someone in another section kept opening the door and we sat through the first 3 segments of the ride twice. We were beginning to feel like hostages. During the third segment there was a cast member's voice that came over the announcement that said, "sit down and stop opening up the doors". I love this presentation but I really was beginning to wonder if we were going to be able to get off of it.

If I were you, I would just ask the CM when you get on line. Im sure they have some sort of protocol in place for something like this, if you give them a heads up before you ride, they'll be able to handle it better! :)

This happen to us one time a couple of years ago I believe. One person walked out, and I think either in the same scene or the next, another woman and her child walked out and the cms came over the speaker saying that we MUST stay seated. And I think we had to repeat the scene again. Either way, because the theater rotates, I think you should stay where you are, otherwise you could end up somewhere you shouldn't be.

With the title I thought this was going to be a bash article, I had to watch the whole thing, I wish I could have walked out after they sang that same song a third time.

I would ask the CM before the doors close about it because you know the whole room moves and someone was killed before when the COP was moving.

No. PLEASE do not try to leave while the ride is operating. It can be very unsafe, and possibly annoying for the other guests (I once had to see the 40s 3 times in a row, because a family exiting intruded the ride).
