are you sure it's that model Darrel? Last I checked, the Fuji S5000 was 3.2mp with 10x optical. The S5500 has 4mp, but still only 10x.

I love it how they call stuff a 2x or a 3x or whatever. I have a 70-300mm lens which is 3.somethign which makes it really really big.

Conversely i have a 24-85mm lens that is also a 3.somethign zoom but that doesnt make it quite as big.

The 3.X zoom, thats totally misleading. Its marketing intended to drive sales of a camera, meanwhile most people havent a foggy clue as to the real focal length of their lens. And thats the true measure of how close a zoom on a camera can be, its focal length.

I have a 3.2mp Canon Powershot S230 Digital Elph. It's a cute little thing for point-and-shoot and not much else. It has 2x optical zoom. It takes good macro shots. I love it, but right now I'm looking for something more professional. For film, I have a Dakota RZ-2000 SLR and an Olympus point-and-shoot. My mom has the 4mp version of my elph and that is nice as well. I recommend Canon and Nikon.

I use the Canon Powershot s30 no longer available, 3.2 megapixel. It's been replaced by the A70 or A80. It's a good camera but I'm sorry I bought it cuz it's too small for my hands. It's no bigger than those cheap instamatics but a lot heavier and I aways have the feeling I'm going to drop it. The newer models are designed with a nice grip like a 35mm.

I have to get a digital camcorder next. Looking at a Sony HC-65 that retails for 699 but is available online for $385, new.

With film cameras, I kept the same one for years, for decades. With digitals, I feel like I need to upgrade. What a waste.

That's my biggest concern, upgrading. What happens if I buy a digital camera and then I buy a new computer and neither are compatible?

I plan to stick with film for awhile.

They generally are, which is why i use card readers or a PCI adapter in the laptop. I copy them right off the card. I dont think the formats will change beyond a simple JPG, although adobe is pushing a "Digital Negative" format for raw files.

I read about that Dave... something about standardizing raw files across different cameras?

I just got a Canon A95 and couldn't be any happier. I did a ton of research and would have liked to get a little bit of a better zoom, but I couldn't pass up the price I was getting on the A95. There is a lot to get used to as I am a first time digital camera user. I can't wait until next summer to be able to use it at Disney.

I talked to Dave about getting an SLR camera. He suggested the Nikon N90. Does anyone have one, if so what do you think about it? I also have looked at the 65 and 75 (I think those are the other models) and don't know what would be best. I want it for manual use, and will be using it a lot once I move to Orlando and go to WDW every day that I can. I want it for night shots, fireworks, landscapes, etc.

Thanks for the help!

Er... thats N75. The N90s went away a long time ago.

So they don't make an N90 anymore? And is the N75 the replacement for it? I haven't done much research on this and I'm still not sure what to go with. From what I want to use it for and the price range I'm looking for, is this camera my best option?

Thanks Dave for all your help! (How's the photo shoot going at Epcot or is that done now?)

Dang... You must be proud to own such an expensive camera... (If I had a at least a grand.. I would get a new nikon.. and an Annual pass to WDW to break it in with....)

So... any suggestions for a new camera?? One that can take digital video well with sound...

(I perfer nikon... but if another brand has another good one.. I would change..)
