Ouch! That must be a mess! How do they know where to go, what do, etc?
Voting is mandatory here too...it´s our civil duty, but nothing happens if you don´t vote. They will punch your voting card and put some ink on your finger when you vote, but they won´t hunt you to give you if you didn´t vote or punish you in any way. What happens if you don´t vote there?

Pretty much what you just said doesn't happen in Mexico! Well, supposedly you're fined, but it never happens. It gets registered, though, so you can't apply for public jobs or get a passport.

As for how people know what to do, there's a little handbook. Since everything is electronic, you just need to turn on the machine and press ok when it tells you to. It's kinda easy, and depending on who you're working with it can be fun. The bad parts are when it gets confusing (like last Sunday) and the fact that you lose the whole Sunday, since you gotta get there at 7 AM, voting begins at 8 and it goes untill 5 PM. It then takes about an hour for the thing to print all the receipts and turn itself off, so you get home around 6:30 PM...

Only about 50% of the population even bother to vote.

That's exactly what would happen down here. For example, senior citizens with more than 75 don't have to vote, and THEY are the first ones in line!

There's this guy running for Senator this year who promised to end the whole mandatory voting thing. Guess what, he won the elections? I think he has 3 or 4 years to make it happen, or people will surely hunt HIM down...

Hang in there, Jer, it'll work out for the best.

Explanation of "Stiffy"

Some of us were trying to chat, and the person who opened the room typed in a name already in use, so we got thrown into some really odd place with a bunch of strangers. They hated our guts and kept saying "Hey Stiffy! How are ya Stiffy" b/c my AIM is SliffyE and they are clever people.

I guessed it was something like that, but I was hoping there was at least a chance Jamie had typed it wrong:lol:

Okay peoples if I'm talking to you on aim and you don't get my messages it's my stupid dsl.. I think I already got one person mad cause my internet can't decide if it wants to work tonight or not and he told me to tell him the problem but apparently when I tried to tell him he didn't GET the message. At least I don't think he did.

*grumbles* once again.. if you dont' get any messages from me on AIM it is NOT my fault it's my stupid DSL being and NOT working correctly but I called the company and they are trying to figure out what is wrong with it... so I might be getting a phone call back telling me... lol

*curls up on the couch and grumbles about stupid computers*

Ah Ha... well to be able to make a Light Saber period is a pretty good feat, I'd say. So if I must choose between Mind Strangles or the Dark Side, well... let's just say anyone in Ryan is already leaning.
