Thank you! It’s been over a year actually already but with COVID and house shopping we put the wedding on hold til then.

As much as I love Disney this my next “magic key” better open the door to a new house. And as our realtor knows given the current home prices/mortgage estimates it may very well be the last magic key for us lol.
COVID and weddings…a big YIKES lol. My friend was supposed to get married in 2020 and she keeps postponing it. She lives in Boston. Because she keeps canceling and moving the date, I’ve decided to not go. I’m over it. I wish you well with your plans for both the wedding and housing!

Looking at home prices/mortgages in Los Angeles is depressing. I actually have this grand plan to save enough money to purchase a piece of land somewhere in the County and build my own home. I plan to buy a large shed, preferably a two-story, and convert it into a house. I won’t have a mortgage; I would only have to pay for amenities and the annual property tax. Should I decide to move out of the house, I plan to rent it out, which would be nice supplemental income.

I don’t want to leave California and don’t really want to live outside of Southern California. I would prefer to stay in Los Angeles County, so unless I marry rich, this is my only option lol. I could get an apartment, but turning a shed into a house would be cooler.

Im in LA County and I know many people that especially as of recent are really upset about the rules in place. Doesn't mean they break or contest the rules. I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat.
Do you think a significant amount of Angelenos are purposefully driving out of the County every time for amenities, shopping, going to eat at restaurants, etc.?

Do you do that to escape mandates in your county?
No, my county is much more lax although my city is pretty good with masking and vaxxing. I do it because there's stuff there that I want to spend money on and tighter restrictions don't bother me. I went to the Music Center last week: boosters and n95s required, no exceptions. I may not have gone without those requirements. And unlike the Super Bowl, masking was enforced.

While the mask mandates have "lifted," but generally I find that people are continuing to wear theirs, probably out of caution, but also because last time they were lifted they came right back. Also, mask-wearing for people who prepare food can stay for the rest of time, as far as I am concerned. I am going to my first concert since in April! The venue is really strict (thank goodness! ), so I am not that worried about it.

Probably not. There's a lot to do in LA County and even though masks are an inconvenience I can't imagine many people driving out of their way to not wear one.

Very much doubt that many people are traveling thirty miles out of their way to go to a Maestros with gas a five bucks a gallon simply because they don't want to wear a mask.

Sounds like you re referring to me. It’s the vaccine mandate. Not the mask. The No mask thing is an added benefit. We re not vaccinated and would rather drive out of our way then go get a negative Covid test every time we want to go out. Especially when it’s all non sense as vaccinated people can spread the virus as well.

God willing none of us are around for a "next time".
That is the hope, however given what we've seen in the last couple decades regarding these type of viruses that jump to humans its likely to happen again and sooner. The only question is how severe will it be and will it require similar efforts to mitigate it, and if so will it be accepted better the next time.

The next milestone is the Federal transportation mandate. It is due to expire Marth 18th, but a major Union of Karens Flight Attendants want to keep it going. Airplanes have a far better air circulation system than most indoor locations like restaurants.

Some places had previously banned masks to prevent criminal activity.
We talked about that over in the WDW thread. I can't imagine that kind of policy ever coming back. After everything that has happened over the past two years, I think businesses would face extreme backlash if they tried to completely ban mask-wearing. Not requiring masks is one thing, but forcing people to go unmasked is another.

LA County finally dropping the indoor mask mandate way ahead of schedule tomorrow. Universal Studios has already announced a drop in mask and vaccine requirements on the same day that LA County drops the indoor mask mandate. Vaccine or covid test check still required at mega indoor events

Nice. Santa Clara county (the other last holdout) lifted mandates yesterday. I can finally go to work and not have to wear my mask all day.
