News California indoor Mask Mandate is lifted

But at this point, everyone is either vaccinated or has already had the virus so it's' a non issue

I wouldn't say it's a non issue, but it certainly isn't worth the hassle and heartache on the part of the Cast Members trying to enforce the rules to keep people safe. Of course, the non-vaccinated are still going to be a drain on society.

Vaccination rates are getting closer and closer to 80% and with more children being vaccinated, that's going to increase every day.

A reminder on current full vaccination rates for all ages in California as of February 14th, 2022:

California Statewide = 68.4%
San Diego County = 79.2%
Orange County = 70.2%
LA County = 70.0%
Riverside County = 57.4%
San Bernardino County = 54.5%

Those numbers increased on average 3% in the last 60 days. At that rate, it will not be until October that California reaches an 80% fully vaccinated rate.

Cast members are being required to prove they are vaccinated as well.

Not really. There were many CM's who requested religions exemptions and then needed to go through the regular testing route. But that requirement was quietly dropped by Disneyland a few weeks ago, after the Supreme Court struck down the ruling on mandates for businesses with more than 100 employees.

The only real danger now is for those that are not vaccinated, and there's no real point in enforcing mask requirements by picking fights with the most stubborn people who don't want to accept the science.

Or for those who have already tested positive for Covid, sometimes with multiple variants over the past 2 years, and thus have higher antibody levels and immunity than those who were only vaccinated. You know, science.

This chart was released by the CDC just last month, and proves the low hazard rate for unvaccinated people who have previous Covid exposure and thus have antibodies circulating. It's slightly safer to be in the stagnant Standby Line at Millennium Falcon: Target Run next to an unvaccinated person who has had Covid, than it is to be next to a vaccinated person who has not had Covid.

From the CDC's summary statement on their own findings last month...

"Scientists reviewed data from New York and California to determine the level of protection offered by COVID-19 vaccines, previous infection, and both. Between May and November 2021, people who were unvaccinated and did not have a prior COVID-19 infection remained at the highest risk of infection and hospitalization, while those who were previously infected, both with or without prior vaccination, had the greatest protection."

It's been that way since Disneyland reopened from the pandemic. Disney has never checked vaccination status and they didn't check where you came from when they were not allowing out of state visitors.

All of those business mandates from Sacramento were as meaningless and innefectual as an usher at the Super Bowl trying to tell Jennifer Lopez to put her mask on. 🤣

The whole thing is a farce now, with rules no business could reasonably expect to enforce still buried in the fine print to satisfy someone on Twitter who would never go to Disneyland anyway.

I am also quite thrilled for the Cast Members. Having to be the mask police must have been a miserable job. God bless 'em for having to work at Disneyland with middle class sheep instead of SoFi Stadium with upper class elites.

Unless they were the types of CM's who love to scold the paying customers for trivial slights; the types who bellow over the Pirates PA system "Keep your hands inside the boat!" if someone points at a drunk pirate. Those types of CM's will need to find a new outlet to focus their inner frustrated school marm on.

Vaccine still mandated by the company:

He stated that the testing requirements for those with religious exemptions were dropped after the Supreme Court ruling which is true.

I think something is getting confused there. The Disney vaccine requirements were not mandated by the federal government, so nothing changed with the supreme court decision (at least not at Disneyland).

I have seen absolutely nothing that suggests that CMs with "religious exemptions" (which must surely be close to 0) had any form of testing requirements above that which were already put in place by CalOSHA. CalOSHA had required testing for large groups of DL CMs due to massive outbreaks all winter long.

It sounds like, any CM who is not vaccinated, either due to a medical or religious exemption, will be put on a medical restrictions list, and may have to wear their mask long-term. Current policy allows CMs to remove their masks while outdoors, only if they are fully vaccinated.

From the What'll They Think Of Next?! file, comes this bold news from Lxs Angelxs County...

That's just the mandate to wear masks at all times outdoors in LA County, even at school recess or at say, oh... a packed sports stadium last weekend for a hugely important football game. ;)

Here in OC, we never had any mask mandates to lift. I took note that today at Trader Joe's most of the employees were maskless again, as well as employees in two other stores I encountered this morning. How long until Disneyland lifts its mandate that CM's be masked?

I suspect my kindergartener son will still be wearing a mask outside as I can’t see teachers encouraging them to take them off at recess/ lunch just so they can police them putting them back on before they go back inside. Sadly nothing will change for my sons age group until they get rid of the indoor mandate in LA County and even then I can still see LAUSD finding a way to continue the mandate.

In other news and another example of how LA has lost its damn mind … they re going to put some ridiculous measure to vote which would allow 12 years olds to get vaccinated without their parents consent.

I heard on KFI this weekend that LA County Schools will lift the outdoor mask mandate (recess, gym, sports) on Tuesday the 22nd. So there's some good news for children's health and development!

But LA County theme parks and tourist attractions (Universal Studios, Six Flags, etc.) will still have the indoor mask mandate until "late March" according to the news and LA County's Board of Supervisors. Here's the LA County update from last week after the statewide mandate was lifted...

February 16, 2022 - EVERYONE, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask:
• In all indoor public settings, venues, gatherings, and public and private businesses in Los Angeles County
Note: You are allowed to take off your mask in Los Angeles County while you are:
• Actively eating or drinking as long as you are sitting or standing in a specific place such as a table, counter, or ticketed seat. This means that you can briefly remove your mask when you are actually eating or drinking but you must put it back on immediately afterwards. You must also wear a mask when you are waiting to be served, between courses or drinks, and while seated after finishing your food or drink.
• Alone in a separate room or space.
• Showering or swimming.

Unless of course you are an Official Good Person attending the Super Bowl. Then Covid doesn't exist.

There's also the separate indoor mask mandate for the City of Los Angeles, that duplicates or supercedes any mandates the county might have, and that will be continuing indefinitely. But the two big theme parks in "LA" are not actually in the City of Los Angeles, just the County of Los Angeles. Got it?

Thousand Oaks has been getting a lot of our money and the more I go out there the more I am certain that I'll be moving to the area in the near-mid future. For those not from Southern California, Thousand Oaks is one of the first cities north outside of the LA county border in Ventura County and it feels like you are in a different world. Less congestion, wider roads, people are more relaxed and friendly, politically more center etc. Unfortunately a little bit further from Disneyland but OC is more expensive and Thousand Oaks is still fairly close to all of our roots.

We've been going there and spending a lot of our leisure money since the vaccine mandate to enter a business in LA County came into effect late last year. We still find ourselves going there as its just so pleasant to not have to put a mask on before walking into a building. Feels like a throwback to better days. Most of the restaurants we've been to over the past 6 or so weeks... Mastros, Tabu Shabu, Los Agapes (twice), Lure Fishhouse and Cheesecake Factory have all been in Thousand Oaks. Most of these businesses have a location or equivalent much closer to my house but Id rather spend the 5 bucks a gallon and drive the 45 mile roundtrip to Thousand Oaks. Now for essentials like groceries I'm not driving to another county. I know that I'm just a drop in the bucket but I wonder how many other people might be doing the same and if LA County has or will eventually feel it.

When I had living relatives in Santa Barbara and would drive up there from OC a few times a year, I would always stop in Thousand Oaks for a Starbucks and a potty break. It's really lovely there. And you are right, it feels and looks much different than LA.

And I love Lure seafood restaurant! I would always go on my way home from Santa Barbara, at their location at the Oxnard outlet mall. Really fresh and beautifully prepared seafood, plus a stylish room and good service. They also had a location at Santa Barbara's La Cumbre mall that I took the relatives to a few times. I love Lure! I wish they'd expand down to OC.

It really is. Of course not quite as nice as many parts of the OC or the American Riviera - (the beautiful) Santa Barbara but definitely a place I could see myself settling down at.

Thousand Oaks is lovely.

Regarding L.A., I’ve been to various parts of the city/county, and I’ve never seen people fuss about having to wear a mask/show proof of vaccination. This includes times when I went to grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants, movie theaters, etc.

There are nearly 10 million people living in L.A. County, so of course I can’t speak for everyone. However, in general, we seem to be cool with it and I highly doubt the County will experience any significant economic harm by way of migration.

Yeah probably wont make any significant impact but on the first point I’m not actually complaining in public either. I’m complying but just “quietly” spending my money elsewhere.

We may be neighbors lol. The Fiancé and I are looking to move to T.O./Camarillo in the next few months. I grew up in Ventura County though I was born in the Valley and spent much of my childhood there. LA County or the OC is just not feasible for us for many reasons.

I’m not sure when you got engaged, but congratulations anyway.🥳
Thank you! It’s been over a year actually already but with COVID and house shopping we put the wedding on hold til then.

As much as I love Disney this my next “magic key” better open the door to a new house. And as our realtor knows given the current home prices/mortgage estimates it may very well be the last magic key for us lol.

Im in LA County and I know many people that especially as of recent are really upset about the rules in place. Doesn't mean they break or contest the rules. I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat.
