News California indoor Mask Mandate is lifted

Um, that was part of my delivery today ... and it's just me ...

Hey, I'm not saying I don't put mayonnaise on too many things. I just don't have the skills to plan my pantry and fridge accordingly. When I was in Junior High, us boys all had to take Wood Shop, while the girls got to take Home Ec. ;)

But I do still remember my Shop teacher showing us his missing finger on the first day of class to scare us. So there's that.

So many beautiful buildings to tour. Music Center and especially Disney Concert Hall. SoFi Stadium is also on my list. I'll probably wear a mask.

I love that. I too have wanted to take a tour of SoFi Stadium, or at the very least drive over to Inglewood and see it for myself from the car. If it helps you to keep wearing a mask, then do it! Just keep getting out into the world and participating. The worst thing is to not get out there. :)

I think we're of a similar Junior High vintage. Up here in Humboldt, we Wood Shop boys swapped classes with the Home Economics girls for one week during the term. I suppose it was an early and noble attempt to open our little male chauvinist minds and offer a broader perspective of potential to both sexes.

I remember little about that week except I had to pop some corn and stitch something. Probably a potholder. It was a budget experience.

My Shop teacher also showed off his (half) missing index finger on the first day! Were school districts head-hunting digital amputees to teach Shop for effect back then?

Same here. Wonder if it was a requirement that shop teachers cut off the tip of their index fingers as an “educational opportunity”.

I also remember having to fight to a Disneyland security guard not to confiscate my keychain bottle opener once, too. Though most don’t question it.

I’ll miss taking metal shop (and home Econ) since I was one of the last graduating classes to have those before the district axed the budget.

Wow. A one week foreign exchange? You must have been in one of those progressive districts back then.

I just remember in 7th grade being mandatorily shuffled off to the Wood Shop to learn planing and sanding, while the girls were sent to the Home Ec Lab to learn... casseroles? Or maybe folding in the cheese?

I did make a cheap wooden desk clock for my Mom, however. Even in the warm glow of nostalgia, I remember it looking crooked and ugly. Although my Mom, being a Mother, said it was fabulous. 😍

Isn't that hysterical?!? Seriously, my Junior High Wood Shop teacher had only nine (9) fingers. And he started every fall semester by showing us his missing finger and telling us we would meet the same horrible fate if we didn't obey his instructions.

In his defense, it worked. To this day, many decades later, every time I wander over to the plywood aisle at my local Home Depot I am instantly transported to 7th grade and the horrors of missing fingers.

I think it would be nice if the ladies here on this message board who are of, ahem, a certain age, could weigh in with what exactly they learned in Home Economics while the boys were in Wood Shop?

Was there a Home Ec equivalent to a Shop teacher with only nine (9) fingers? Maybe a spinster teacher who learned the art of casseroles a few years too late? And what exactly is the secret to folding in the cheese?

Inquiring manly minds want to know! 🤔

We learned cooking skills and meal planing - using the old food pyramid which means they would not be considered healthy these days.
Also sewing skills - I can still make a drindl skirt without giving it much thought, plus how to hem without the sticthes showing, and how to use a pattern - along with using a sewing machine without stabbing your fingers.
I don't think the teacher had any injury to show us, though. I suspect this class was more useful than my husband's woodshop class- although my husband did install a parquet floor in the Butler's Pantry.

But what does all of this have to do with mask mandates???

I did poorly in those classes, probably because I didn't want to be there. I was relegated to setting the table and failed that because I set it left-handed. We sewed simple shifts but I don't remember completing it.

It took many years before I could enjoy sewing or cooking. Fortunately I found out I liked it in time to make many masks to comply with mandates.

Beautifully done, my dear! :D

Like others here, I have struggled to keep up with the County and City of LA's ongoing mask mandates. It seems like they dropped it, but not really. And officially, there's still a rulebook two inches thick on who, what, and where masking and vaccination status is still required in LA.

Although, it appears the City and the County finally aligned themselves fairly closely. The City of Los Angeles, along with San Francisco, remains as sort of the last bastion of mandatory masking in California. I did find this news article from March 8th though that went to great length explaining how masks were still required in LA, but at the end is this summary...

"In sum, the current rules in the county and city of Los Angeles are:
  • If a business or venue wants to permit fully vaccinated customers and visitors to unmask, then all customers and visitors must provide proof of vaccination or a negative test before entering.
  • If a business or venue wants to permit fully vaccinated workers to unmask, then not only must all customers and visitors provide proof of vaccination or a recent negative test, but all workers who are not fully vaccinated must provide proof of a recent negative test (every three days) to enter."

So, I guess the question is... are LA businesses really doing that? When you go into Target, do they ask for vaccination status? Or just require that everyone in that Target remain masked at all times regardless of claimed vaccination status? How about an In-N-Out? A neighborhood dive bar? A beauty parlor or barbershop? Denny's? The lobby of the Beverly Hilton? Universal Studios Tram Tour?

I'm just confused on what is actually happening in the real world in LA, because the official language from the local government there makes it sound like not much has actually changed? o_O

When do we think Disneyland CM's can stop wearing their masks indoors? CM's can already take their masks off outdoors, but when does the indoor ban end for Disney?

There is no mask mandate for employees in California or Orange County, and most OC businesses have already allowed their employees to stop wearing masks indoors (Target, Trader Joe's, Home Depot, Ralphs, Nordstrom, etc., etc.).

When does Disneyland stop requiring CM's to mask indoors, I wonder?

What a joke. On 2/28 they told us LAUSD students wouldn’t have to wear masks at school starting 3/12. Today in the 11th hour they change their mind. Literally the last school system in the country requiring kids to wear masks. Who are these weirdos and how out of all the counties in the country did I end up in the most extreme and obnoxious of them all?
