Rumor Bye Bye (Tiki) Birdies?

As much as I believe there is a plan, one competing among many, to ditch Tiki, I'm not going to get worried it is imminent unless we hear what the replacement will be. As others have pointed out, the Tiki space is tiny. A new Club 33 isn't going to fit there. A spinner will barely fit. So, it's certainly not going to be a D or E Ticket, which takes the wind out of any reason to change it.

The problem with Tiki's emptiness (at non-peak times of year) is also the problem with CBJ, People Mover, and CoP: They don't show up on the Disney App in the Wait Times list. That's what people check to see where they should go to next if they don't have a FP and if they don't want to wait an hour: "What has a short wait line?" And these attractions don't appear in that list, so, they get often overlooked.

Creepy? Yes.
Again, it all comes down to paranoia. I know what info is linked to my band and in MDE, so being said hello to by name doesn't strike me as creepy in any way. When I last went on Small World and was greeted by name, nearly everyone in my boat laughed and pointed at the board and said "look! it's our name! that's so cool!" and such. One person said "that's creepy". So yes, I can see how someone used to seeing things through a paranoid lens would see it as creepy. Me? no.

That they say hello and know my name on a ride? Not in the slightest; in context, there's nothing creepy about being greeted.
That they use my MagicBand to put photos into the account I purchased? No, that's sort of the whole point of Memory Maker.
That they can surprise kids with pre-arranged birthday greetings approved by parents? Again... creepy?
I guess it depends on how paranoid you are.
There is something about being greetedby people who know your name and personal details whom you do not know, never met and don't know what their intentions are. I find that very disturbing.

It's a good thing that none of that is what I just said, isn't it?

To be clear: I'm talking about the digital signboard that displays the name you put into MDE. Not a cast member saying HELLO, HMF! out of nowhere. That would be weird.

It's honestly just a snazzy version of the old ET ride where he said your name at the end. I didn't think that was creepy either.

The history of the Enchanted Tiki Room is a testament to Walt Disney's greed. He personally owned the attraction at Disneyland and hired his own staff to run it. The Tiki Room was the most expensive attraction in the park (more than an E ticket). You couldn't use the regular tickets to enter the Tiki Room because you had to buy a separate admission ($0.75). Why? Because Walt took all the profits from this attraction and did not share the proceeds with the stockholders. He also did not pay rent or a lease fee on the attraction. He was skimming profits from Disneyland until he got caught and had to settle up shortly before his death in 1966.
I know we all hate to hear this after we have had a very spirited slander of another person, but, do you have any proof of any of that. And if you do, just exactly what shareholders did they have back in the day, and didn't he create the entire concept, who better to profit from it. It sounds like just a lot of pure hate. Generated from, I don't know where, but, after all these years who the hell cares. If you are right, he got his competence, he died before his biggest dream could become reality. That should make you happy and justice was served.

Both shows IMO have very small footprints what will you replace them with of any substance? Meet and greets or another small show. Both are real gems and it's sad they lack appreciation.

I'm old enough to remember when there was always a line for CBJ and do think it's sad that apparently both shows no longer garner much appreciation. But I've never seen Disney fail at finding a use for an existing small space if they think it can contribute to revenue generation.

Yeah, and the fact that the place is almost always 90% empty means there are a lot more people who think like me than not.
I've been in it a number of times and it is closer to 80% full then 90% empty. Perhaps math is your problem and certainly your perception of numbers. Anyway, if Disney decides to close it.. there isn't much we can do about it and I sure hope that they wouldn't close it because you have made the statement that YOU don't like it.

The last two times I've gone -- in 2015 and 2016! -- the theater was packed. Kids were dancing and singing along.
Is "in 2015 and 2016!" supposed to put me in my place? My last three trips were January 2017 and twice in 2016, so my experience of an empty theater is just as valid as your experience of a "packed" theater. Judging by objective reviews and touring guides from places like Touring Plans, I think my experience is a bit more the norm.

I love the Tiki Room and find it sweet and charming. Yes, shockingly, people like different things than you. Most people, it turns out.
Obviously not, as it's already been stated that the impetus for this closure is poor attendance and poor guest feedback.

No, it's meant to give context to my remarks about attendance, so you'll know I'm not talking about 1985. I'm not the only one in this thread who's experienced consistently mostly-full houses there. Though as I say, I think it'd be way more popular if they'd let people take Dole Whips inside and sit in the A/C, like they do at Disneyland.
