Buying tickets on Ebay?

I have seen a lot of Disney tickets available on Ebay. Has anyone ever purchased tickets on Ebay and have the ever had trouble with the tickets once they got to the park?

Don't do it....you have no idea how many days if any are left on the ticket. There have been a number of cases of families that bought these tickets and spent a good amount of money on them and gotten to WDW and found they had worthless tickets.

So give me some advice

I have a one day park hopper ticket that I bought last year and will not be able to use. I thought about putting it on ebay but didn't for many of the reasons that others have stated. I don't want anyone to be worried that the ticket may be fake, whatever. Any ideas how I may be able to sell the ticket to someone? I received it through the mail so my finger has not been scanned with it and it doesn't have my name on it.

Are you NEVER gonna go?

This ticket will increase in value, as the price for admission will continue to go up, barring a major national economic depression.

I'd hold on to it until my next trip.

Either wait until you might go again, like unkadug said, OR hold on to it until you personally know someone who is going, and see if they'd like an extra one day ticket

I'll give you the same advice I gave someone else on their similar thread.

If you really want to take a chance and buy WDW tickets on ebay, go for it. It's certainly just as much of a chance as buying anything else on ebay. You can buy something "new! In the box!" that turns out to be neither/nor. Some items with "wear and tear" could be barely usable. Movies and videos could turn out to be bootlegs. And of course, there's always the possibility that you'll never get anything you bought. All the precautions and security measures put in place to protect you doesn't change the fact that someone will take your, or your credit card company's, money and run. So if you want to take the chance, take the chance.

BUT, just make sure you go to WDW with enough cash or credit available to re-buy all the tickets you bought on ebay. Because there's a chance that your tickets will be invalid, or not have as many days on them as you thought they would, or completely valid but only for the person they were originally assigned to. And when they say you can't go in because the ticket isn't valid, you'll have two options. You can either kick and scream like a baby, HOPING they'll let you in to avoid a scene (good luck trying THAT every day of your vacation-they'll probably confiscate the tickets anyway and if you're lucky, take pity on you and let you in just for that day).

OR you can suck it up like an adult, realize that you were trying to bend the rules to your advantage, got caught and got hosed, and go back to the back of the line to buy your own legitimate tickets, kids crying all the time because they were so close to getting in to WDW, and now they have to wait another hour or so. Great way to start the vacation day, y'know?
You must not use Ebay very much because I have never had a problem buying item's or selling off Ebay but I only buy from people who have sold more then 500 items and have never had negative feedback against them.

The problem with using Ebay for tickets is until you actually try to use them, you have no clue excatly how many days are really left on the tickets. Just because a seller may have great feedback & claim they are selling a pass with 4 days remaining on it, they could be lying & the pass really has 0 days left on it.

So in the end the decision is up to you, but my personal preference would be to purchase my tickets from WDW. Either while on vacation there, at a Disney Store, or online at disneyworld.com. At least by getting them that way, you know there would be nothing wrong with them.[/quot

That is why you ask the seller questions before you attempt to purchase the tickets like how many days are left on the tickets? People who sell at a regular basis on Ebay will not risk negative feedback by lying to someone.

This is true form 99% of the items sold on e-bay however Disney tickets fit into the 1% that are not normal items.

Disney tickets are non-transferable hence it reselling them invalidates them. Most of the people selling Disney tickets are either scam artists or normal Joe's that don't sell on e-bay much. Either way their feedback numbers will usually be low. There is no way to confirm how many days are left on a Disney ticket at anywhere other that guest services at the park. You can ask the seller "How many days are left" till your blue in the face there is still no way to confirm it.

Bottom line e-bay is a great place to buy many things but Disney tickets are not one of them.

Also I had heard that reselling of any theme park tickets at any price in Florida constitutes scalping, which is illegal. In any event I Agree with Master Yoda and most everyone else here. EBay may be fine for a lot of stuff. Disney Theme Park Tickets dont fit into that category at all. They are non- transferable etc. If you want to "save" some money by all means go ahead, but know that you are gambling with your vacation. If you are forced to purchase a ticket at full price the cost to you in time, money and frustration to me would far outweigh any cost savings that you may have gotten. Belle

Sorry, I should have said never buy used Disney tickets on Ebay because if you look some sellers will even say buy at your own risk. My friend paid for tickets to the not so scary holloween party from a travel agency on Ebay.

That is true but what most people are referring to are the sharply discounted left over days tickets tickets commonly found on e-bay. The only legit sharply discounted tickets found on e-bay will almost always have a time share deal attached to it.

I've used it enough, and I've yet to have a serious problem. But I've never used them to buy WDW tickets. Out of curiosity, have you?

I've also tried to be savvy enough to buy the items I've wanted from people with a lot of transactions and high positive ratings. There will plenty of non-ebay-savvy people, looking to save money who won't even realize to look for positive feedback. You can say they get what they deserve if they get taken, but that doesn't mean you can't warn them to protect themselves. (And of course, some people are able to artificially pump up their positive feedback by buying their own stuff under different screennames, so THAT'S never a guarantee either.

I stand by what I said before. To buy old passes that may have valid days still on them is a pretty big risk. Sure, you'll probably get the actual pass in the mail, but until you actually get to WDW and try to use them, you'll have no idea if there are days still on those passes, or if security is going to ask for proof that you're the original person that pass was assigned to. And it's within their reights and responsibilties to do so. To me, there's too much risk, and why chance starting your vacation off paying for passes because the ones you bought were invalid or confiscated?

I just said on my earlier post that my friend bought tickets on Ebay and they are valid and I also said that not to buy used tickets because some sellers will say buy at own risk on used tickets. I don't buy into people buying their own stuff, sure their might be a couple of people who do that but not many because you get charged every time you sell an item so it's pretty pointless. You're correct on some people not knowing about the positive feedback but most people do and if they don't know about it then they know someone who does know about as Ebay is one of the most popular sites on the internet.

OK The bottom line here is this, Could the unused passes on EBay be legit?? Perhaps. Are you willing to gamble the price of them to find out?? That is an answer I cant give you. I know I wouldnt. Also if the tickets are completely legit, why would a travel agency take a loss on them and sell them for less than what they paid??? I can tell you our agency is very well acquainted with Disney's policys and any offerings that they do have. Tickets to the theme parks arent ever discounted heavily. Some ticket brokers such as Maple Leaf provide a slight discount but nothing overwhelming. I would question why the tickets are dramatically reduced. Also keep in mind if these are new, unused tickets, The question begs asking couldnt the person hang on to them and sell them at full price?? it just doesnt add up for me. I Am all in favor of getting a quality product at the lowest price possible, but for me, there are way too many unanswered questions here and too many risks of it not being what I thought it would be. As Jiminy would say " Always let your conscience be your guide!" Best of luck in your decision! Belle

Well, no offense, but I actually wrote my response to your first post (or the post where I quote you anyway) before you wrote any of your subsequent posts, where you agreed that you shouldn't trust used passes that might have unexpired days on them. I don't know why my post took so long to be online, but by the time it did, you already wrote other posts that answered my question. So I humbly ask for some slack on that. As far as new unused passes go, I'd still be as wary of them as I would of passes with unexpired days on them. I'm no lawyer, but I guess I'm worried about the tangible versus the untangible. You're buying that pass, that voucher, with the understanding that it can be used for certain services. And if you get those services in excahge for that pass or voucher, great. But if you don't, I don't know how easy it will be to get your money back, because you received the tangible (the pass or voucher), and expected the intabgible (getting into the parks).

Perhaps I'm being overly cautious, but like I said before, I'd hate for my vacation to start off on a sour note because I thought I was saving some money buying tickets off of ebay, only to find out something-anything-went wrong. But if you or a friend or anyone else wants to take the chance, then I'll be more than happy to beeat crow if you are, indeed, successful. I'm not saying Don't, I'm saying I wouldn't.

As far as peoply building up their own positive feedback, I'm sure it isn't rampant, but I've known people who intend to get rid of a lot of old stuff on ebay by "priming the pump" with a few positive feedbacks. Yeah, I'm sure someone is not buying hundreds of thousands of items from themselves just to make them look like the best e-tailer ever, but lots of people figure a few never hurt.

Despite the fact that I have been, and still am, wary of anyone buying tickets online, I can think of a pretty obvious (and kinda sad) reason why new, unused tickets can't be used. The original purchaser was planning a vacation, but now can't take it. Not only can't he/she take the vacation, but he/she really can't afford to wait until they can reschedule the vacation. Money is needed, now, because of an unforeseen circumstance. Someone got fired, someone got in an accident, someone is suddenly expecting and needs cash for baby clothes, car needs to be replaced, home repairs need to be made, kid needs braces and the parent doesn't have dental insurance, lots of little reasons why someone would have to give up on their pre-purchased passes. But even still, it doesn't hurt to be wary of the situation. I'd feel better in that situation if I knew the person, could hand him/her cash and take the ticket or voucher out of his or her hand. (Of course, then I can also stalk and harass them if they gypped me. :) )
