Not really.

Less capacity means those 24,000 guest just spend a bigger part of their day stuck in long lines, instead of going through the rides quickly and having more free time to shop, dine and drink.
I understand what you are saying, but those old people eaters had long lines too. And they were not "quick rides", they were longer and more time consuming than some of the newer attractions such as Soarin and Journey into Imagination with Figment. I don't necessarily believe less capacity = more time in long lines. People don't pay $100+ to stand in line all day (except maybe at the brand new Pandora or over crowded MK). They do other things like eat, drink, shop, people watch or enjoy shows. My point was that now days you don't see TDO building attractions that are big people eaters and time consuming as well such as UoE etc.

Fastpass was developed to get those 24000 people back into the shops and restaurants. Blame Pressler.
What he failed to add to the patent was a requirement that your paper FP be validated by a CM working the register. As long as you have to wait in line to get that, you might as well buy something, eh? ;)

...hmmm...not bad...

How'd you like to be Senior VP of Walt Disney Attractions and a nice 88 sf office next to Sneezy?

Because those rides are extremely expensive to build and require tons of maintenance.

Same reason NRJ and 7DMT both ended up extremely short rides. Budget cuts

but back then, one couldn't even really be faulted searching for irony - now you'd be a fool.
appreciate the honesty, mike ... and the precedent

approaching 25 years hence and people still wonder why the parks......... oh, nevermind

I can't 100% blame the choice of the middle managers/division heads...I see it more of a shift in the design/monetary goals of the parks over that period...one that has lacked consistent approach and direction as a whole unit.

true, true - full swing by then...
i reached back too far to the 'shift' that essentially necessitated such a choice.

This has become apparent to me while reading Disney Wars by James Stewart. So far it’s an excellent and fascinating read.

Well...I've read everything there is to read about Roy E., Mikey, and Frank...

And while wells is revered (he became a martyr figure and his legacy didn't make it to the decline)...I think that's an oversimplification.

Eisner gets too little credit...he really did push the envelope and was still a creative mind at heart. The "empty suit" (his words) that followed his is not. Just a toy poodle that wants to be patted on the head by Wall Street.

But it was the "idiot nephew" that really was the backbone...from ousting the son in law - which had to happen as walt would have had to be replaced, to the steady advocate on the board, to the call for change (which is where we are now and not being done)...was really the key.

But...peter pan was kinda neat when it opened...

Mine train is just a junior coaster opened in 2012...that's all. A "C"...if we're honest.

But when you add nothing for 10 years and your attendance swells in a "good" economy...you get a 2 hour line.

The problem with mine train isn't so much that it's the "NEWEST" ride anymore. One could argue there are plenty of attractions at MK that could eat these people up. The challenge facing this ride is that it hits the sweet spot for everyone. It has just enough thrills that an average coaster person will find it amusing, but not turn off enough people who are afraid of them, it has a low height requirement so kids of all ages can ride it, it has pretty nice theme and decor that people less interested in coasters but like "disney stuff" will want to ride. IE its a good "everyone" attraction. Yeah, thrill wise it's a C, but I'm a coaster junkie and still find it entertaining. I never wait for it though, as a passholder I only go on it if I can get a fast pass. Rare, but I have no use for a 2 hour line.

Oh I agree...it's not a bad ride at all...

But it's way more "sum more than the parts"...it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. MK was just starving for rides and the attendance is up 20-25% since the last people eater installed - Buzz Lightyear.

I also think the unpopularity of Ariel feeds minestrain more than it should.
