A boy was killed Saturday when he was struck by the popular Batman ride at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Cobb County police declined to confirm reports that the boy was decapitated, saying they were deferring to the park to release details of the accident that occurred shortly after 2 p.m.

Police spokesman Dana Pearce said the victim was not on the ride when he was "struck and killed." Six Flags said in a statement that details of the fatal accident would be released "shortly."

According to Fox 5 TV, a group of boys with a church group visiting the amusement park jumped a fence around an off-limits area. One of them jumped to grab someone's feet as the Batman ride passed over, and he was decapitated.

This has happened in the past at other parks, but I can't remember a situation where it was actually a guests instead of an employee. Sad, but those areas are restricted for a reason.

From Fox News:

A boy visiting Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell with a church group was decapitated Saturday after he tried to grab someone's foot while on the Batman ride, MyFOXAtlanta.com reported.

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. when a group of the boys jumped a fence and entered an area that was marked off limits, the station reported.

Investigators did not release the boy's name, age or the church group he was traveling with.

It isn't clear whether the boy died at the scene or was alive for a time after the incident.

Did you catch that? "It isn't clear whether the boy died at the scene or was alive for a time after the incident." :veryconfu

Wow, this is kind of sad, but it makes you wonder what the h*ll was going through his mind when he did it? There is a fence there for a reason. And it sounds as if he was attempting to pull a prank by, "grabbing somebody's feet." My prayers are with his family.

One article said he was trying to grab peoples feet, and another said he was getting his hat that fell off on the ride, im not sure which one is more acurate.

This same article said that he had scalled 2 fences, so if there was 2, would'nt a worker have seen it?

On other note, i just saved a bunch of money on car insurance.

jk.

But people were saying that his parents should sue?

THATS THE BIGGEST PEICE OF BS I HAVE SEEN SINCE AL GORE NOT BEING ELECTED AS PRESIDENT.

You might have read something about an incident at Paramount's Great America about 10 years ago when this happened due to a guest going after a hat instead of information about this particular incident.

...But people were saying that his parents should sue?...

I would love to see their explanation as to why they have the grounds to sue. The fence was there for a reason. And with most rides, even if an employee did notice, they probably wouldn't have been able to stop the ride, or get the kid without risking their own life. Let's see how far they get with that case.

btw, love the avatar.

The local news in Boston just reported that the kid jumped two 6 ft. fences, several warning signs, and also reported both versions of the case, 1: he was getting a dropped item, 2: trying to touch people's feet as they passed overhead. They also confirmed that he was decapitated.

There was an article here recently about a Phoenix area boy who was internally decapitated in an accident and survived. Maybe it was something along those lines.

technically until the heart stops beating they have to try and save the person even though it is quite obvious the person is deceased when they were decapitated.

There was a local tragedy where a HS senior was struck and killed by a train while crossing a trestle. The ends of the trestle have fences, with just enough room for the train to get through, along with large warning/no trespassing signs.

The family has filed suit against the train company.

So, families will still sue, even if their child was old enough to know better, and ignored warnings.

It's too bad that there are lawyers who will go ahead with these suits, rather than telling the families that they need grief counseling to come to terms with their sorrow, anger and feelings of helplessness in an overwhelming situation. It's horrible to accept the fact that your child made a poor decision which cost him his life, there is nothing you can do to undo it, but you can't express (at least, not openly, and not without guilt) your anger towards him, so you try to find a way to "blame" someone else.
