I know it is a small group but I really don’t understand the people who are not happy about this. Iger is an improvement, not a savior, not perfect, not even ideal, not someone I EVER thought I would want to see again but absolutely an improvement. Can anyone, with a straight face, tell me that Chapek was a better CEO than Iger?

Even if they have the exact same ideas and strategies (which they don’t as we are already seeing), doing them in a way that doesn’t p*** off all your employees and customers is a large bonus. Additionally, saving the other divisions that have struggled under Chapek will stop them from using the parks to cover losses/underperformance elsewhere and that will help all aspects of the company.

Even their management style can make a big difference. Chapek seems to have been a control freak while Iger put people in charge to do a job and let them do it. That means the parks have a chance to get better now. It isn’t going to change overnight and who knows, maybe it won’t change at all, but now it has a chance.

Sure, I would have rather them gone out and found the next Walt but given how things played out, this is the best we could realistically hope for and it will at least start to put out the raging dumpster fire Chapek was overseeing.

Is it even necessary for Disney+ to ever turn a profit?
The service is basically a 24/7 stream of advertisements for Disney's merchandise, media, parks, and other products.

All of Disney's income streams are dependent on broadcast/streaming media to create public knowledge about them.

That picture was taken at 7:59…

At 8:15 after the store opened, everything was on the floor and it hasn’t been cleaned up since.

Those target sections are a disgrace.
Horrible move longterm

Every bad thing about Chapek, other than style, started with Iger.

You're reading waaaay too much into Joe's comment (one made when he was still an employee, so if you asked him now, he may have a different response). The problem with the yeti was unexpected and unforeseen and was very complex. It's not timely to replace the yeti, because it's not going to be something they do overnight, it would be months of downtime. But at least one potential replacement was designed years ago. The yeti has been removed a few times in the years after the ride opened, according to a few people around here I trust with such information, so it's not like they are in uncharted territory (or maybe they are, if all of the people who know about the yeti AA are gone).

How would we feel about Catherine Powell coming back if they canned D'Amaro? Just throwing it out there.
I am going to annoy (more than usual) everyone with what I call “the gareth edwards principle”

In short: they need a hands on parks leader…someone that actually has set foot in a park and eaten a hot dog. That doesn’t mean run it like the movie Big…but they have a chance to actually build some things without the shelf lives of what they have been doing of late.

Posted today in a group of former Disney Store cast members of a “Disney Store shop in shop”. Really hope this is something that is reconsidered.

It was my understanding that Powell was very much liked by DLP cast members because she did exactly that - and spent time with and knew her cast members.

I know it's going to be crowded but there is no way it is going to be bad as I know it (historically) can get because they even said they were never going to go to 100% capacity again even now post-pandemic.

Edit: I am a lot more worried about Universal on the other hand...
Current wait times in HS:

ToT: Temp closed, Genie+ gone
Toy Story Mania: 120 mins
ROTR: 145 mins
Slinky DD: 160 mins
RnR: 120 mins
MFSR: 110 mins
MMRR: 100 mins

SO MINIMUM WAIT TIME RIGHT NOW IS AND HOUR AND 40 MINS

I don't think they've done a good job at managing attendance at the parks

But your family of 5 could have paid $145 for Genie+ and then another $125 for ROTR for a total of $270!

Maybe so but style matters and so does the degree at which policies are implemented. Iger at least cared what customers said and was partially driven by GSAT scores while Chapek just didn't care. His only metric seemed to be more money = better.

Like I said, I've never been a big fan of Iger but I will take that over Chapek.

I’d avoid that park if possible

And those that say you don’t need the genie are not doing anyone a service.

I tend to feel this way, too.

I agree with those who say not to expect any big changes (or maybe any changes) in how the parks are operated. I also agree that most of what we don't like in the parks started with Iger. So, he's not a saviour.

Still, at least Iger has some positive points and, in my view, left the company in a much stronger position than when he took it over. I'm not sure what Chapek's positive points were and am really struggling to wrap my head around the idea that we will be nostalgic for him once Iger 2.0 wreaks his havoc on Disney. He could be a disaster, but I don't know why some people are so positive he will be.

Infrastructure matters…style is for Wall Street.

Iger/chapek didn’t reinforce the “infrastructure” of any Disney unit to the level required to avoid the problems they have right now.

Gonna have to pay the piper

Ok….I was standing there on Sunday…

And it’s actually worse than it looks here
It just makes me shake my head, chapek closes Disney stores and radioDisney due to “changing consumer preferences” aka he couldn’t find any more ways to bleed money from them, but then there’s Disney+ just hemorrhaging cash. I think Disney Store definitely needed a slim down, but to close all but one in North America? And how much was radioDisney costing them to basically be a free commercial 24/7 for them?
