do we think many of the announcements yesterday were due to disney listening to guests, or disney listening to their data collectors and seeing vacation forecasts

2021/2022 saw increased attendance (obviously) from the decline in 2020. 2023 is expected to be a down year, so time for your "undesirable attendance mix" to be a bit more desirable.

i personally think after the post covid return to disney surge and many repeat guests experiencing the changes... they aren't as eager to repeat those future trips

Correct, which is why lots of us have been asking about Disney's response for Epic Universe. The package of brand new hotels (being built at a ridiculous speed) and attractions based on Nintendo will give Universal the advantage of the next few years.

A Moana interactive area and a reskin of Splash won't move the needle much.

I’ll remind: repeat, middle/upper middle class business is a requirement of Disney parks to be sustainable/profitable…

Bob spent 15 Years telling the brokers that was flexible…amongst other stupidly…it never was.

I’m glad he’s back to see the end of an era of Economic malfeasance/stupidity that he rode like a toy horse.

Popcorn time
If only there was an "Amen" choice on the like button.

We do know that Iger is sensitive to poor guest satisfaction surveys (GSATs) as that hurts "the brand." Iger has stated several times how important "the brand" is.

"The brand" is what draws people to Disney products and the source of continuing profits. Of course, the product needs to be good to excellent, but the brand also papers over those product only fair to middling.

I think I took the GSATs to get into law school once🤔

You are correct on iger’s stance on “the brand”…I think his realization these last few years is he was probably wrong.

The label get attention…but it can’t sub for mediocre product. They’re seeing that in near every unit except raw park attendance (to date)

What’s ironic is he’s reaffirming a prior CEOs mantra…and modern Wall Street finds that loathsome and wants blood

Iger destroyed the "brand" by erasing all meaning from it. Disney is nothing more than a holding company for collecting IP and bland, mediocre product with various IP slapped on it - there is no more brand. The line between Comcast and Disney is almost indecipherable at this point to the casual observer and so too is the brand.
