Bob Iger at WDW now ... BoD to Follow?

I had seen others putting out their thoughts, hence my addition. To be fair, this thread has derailed in much more unrelated ways (see pizza).

In a matter of minutes, oy.

So it should be an interesting week with the Board in town. Let's hope they say yes.... Which can should be pretty easy.

I think just using touring plan's observed data, I've created a serious case for going all in at DHS.

Now if only we could wipe out spreadsheet culture and political animals from the ranks of WDW leadership...

I don't know how they can't say yes. One walk through and seeing the crowds in the park with no where to go and the closed attractions can only motivate. I'll be interested to hear/see pictures of them in the parks - which ones they really do visit, and where they're seen. That might give us some insight.

I do miss Eisner's hands on approach. It's really needed in the parks right now.

I'd be surprised if the BOD is actually seen on stage.

Although I would love for a few board members to just wander around on their own and check things out.

I still say the board is going to see the Star Wars Effect being equivalent to the HP Effect for Uni and go for it.

On top of the fact that while Harry Potter has a large following there isn't anything quite ingrained in our culture as Star Wars. It also wasn't just the rides but it was the experiences that made The Wizarding World a success. When you walked through the wall and into Diagon Alley you stepped into the movies. I hope WDI will do something similar for Star Wars.

Definitely need immersive lands. Make people feel they are in a Star Wars movie and people will lose their minds and their wallets.

Iger's track record would be hard for the BoD's to ignore. DCA 2.0 and especially the success of Carsland speak for themselves. The FLE has performed well beyond expectations. DTD is drawing huge crowds of gawkers (and shoppers) long before they have even gotten to the great additions such as the Edison, NBA, and pan-Asian cuisine and much much more. DAK 2.0 draws positive reviews from all even though much more is under construction.

Frozen, new film for Soarin and what looks like an awesome new land called Pandora are all currently underway.

So I am optimistic the board trusts the CEO's insticts at this point. Looking forward to D23. :)

I would be VERY surprised if the Board of Directors went against the Chairman of the Board, who clearly wants investment in DHS. They implicitly trust him because, as far as they are concerned, he's been a fabulous CEO. The bigger question for me is, "what will they approve?" Will they go balls to the wall and approve the most expensive option presented to them, or go with something more paltry like New Fantasyland (I remember how excited folks were around here when we learned that New Fantasyland was going to be announced..and then disbelief when the plans were actually revealed)?

I don't think they will blindly follow Bob. But will evaluate the options and choose the one with the highest potential ROI / EPS for the shareholders. But it should coincide with the one the chairman is recommending.

Dear Board of Directors,
Welcome to Florida. As you can see, the weather is much different as compared to Sunny Southern California. We hope you enjoy your stay and for the benefit of future generations, please give strong consideration to approving the following at the park formerly known as the Disney-MGM Studios:
(1) Wow Us.

That is all. Thank you for reading.

This is the second time Star Wars is gone before the board of directors. The board rejected the first attempt. They said it was not ambitious enough.

So I agree with you in that the board usually will approve the project. They certainly won't deny it saying that they are spending too much money… And I only know of the one instance when they said they weren't spending enough.

Based on reading about the preparation that went into the magic band idea before the BoD, and even Iger got to see it,(being a walkthrough faux ride queue in a soundstage in DHS) if they were to be discussing rides, concept art, models, more renderings, and probably a few props would be made by now, for them to be serious. I atleast see potential in this being true, with D23 in just over a month now. If they were to unveil plans there, like everyone expected last time, in 2013 (yeah, I'm talkin to you operation orange harvest.....) they would be considering in like NOW

I think what we will see out of this will be Star Wars Land and Cars Land.

As many times as I hear the BOD said not big enough it makes me very very happy! Glad that some realize what they have in Star Wars!

I wonder if the BoD have taken a stroll down the highway to check out what completion has been doing? It is probably what instigated this whole trip and the push for funding to fix some of the many shortcomings in the WDW parks.

I does bother me that the people that make the difference and approve the spending stay in private blocked off areas, ride around in limo's and basically stay away from the guest areas. Let them try the transportation systems to see how long they wait for a bus or see the ripped seats in a smelly monorail car. Maybe they can check into a random hotel room and see what the normal guest sees not just a block of rooms that have been locked for weeks as they were prepped for the D&P show. I would like to Bob see what it is like to reserve his ride on Soarin' 2 months out and still wait in line for 40 minutes.

Not that this group needs to do this, but at least run the guest gauntlet once or twice and see what it is like through the eyes of the people that make your paychecks so fat. You may make better decisions by understanding the other side through experience rather than through surveys.
