man do I hope you re right.... im curious if DHS is in as bad a place as DCA was before there redo? or is DHS picked up because of park hopping?

I've never been to DCA.

The attendance pattern so far this year shows that if it weren't for Star Wars weekends, studios would be having a really abysmal year. Instead, it's having a bad year.... First quarter of the calendar year was just horrid.

Spring break and Star Wars weekends have accounted for most of the big crowds that Hollywood studios have seen so far.

It always makes me laugh that when a big wig visits any outpost of their company, people fall over backwards to protect the a $$es of the management above them that don't give to hoots the rest of the time - in daily operation. Someone said that the villas Uncle Bob is staying at have been closed since May to get them up to scratch... err.. let them see what the people paying upward of $550 get. Evan and cucumber? Let him use the low pressure water fountain. .. or make him stand in line at a soda fountain where countless rapid fill cups don't work.

Make them stand in line for 90 mins at Snow White... plonk the BoD in the middle of the hub whilst CM's and guests both try to figure out there they can walk/stand/breathe! Let them wait 20 min for an ice cream on main street or try to schedule decent fast passes the day before their visit.

I know it happens everywhere, it just gives such a narrow minded view of what really goes on. Of course, if they saw the truth they'd probably all quit tomorrow, knowing the task at hand is way beyond any makeover at Hollywood Studios .

This makes me crazy as well. With all the issues at WDW today, sheltering the bigwigs from reality doesn't help anyone. Other than some managers at BW covering their behinds, there is nothing to be gained from hiding the true conditions of a park or resort that a real paying guest would experience. And I know this happens all over the place, but it doesn't make it right.

It doesn't appear that Bob is the type of person who wanders the parks on his own, experiencing them like a guest. I have a feeling if execs were forced to experience the product like their paying customers, things would be a lot different from what we are getting now.

I disagree, Corporate executives especially at the board level live in their own world. They would be incapable of seeing what normal people see.

I don't know about attendance-wise, but quality wise, DHS is worse than DCA was before the redo. At least DCA didn't have a bunch of shuttered attractions and empty buildings.

And if DHS is helped by park-hopping, DCA should have been as well. Heck, it's far easier to park hop in Cali.

Cars Land, Mermaid, TSMM and WoC were 75% of the $1.25 billion DCA got. The rest was Buena Vista Street and some placemaking for Paradise Pier.

Keep in mind... my idea of what might happen involves keeping Indy/Muppets

I would think $2 billion could get:
TSPL ($80 million)
Pizza Planet relocation ($25 million)
Great Movie Ride upgrade ($70 million) - $150 million
Fantasmic revamp ($50 million) - $200 million

New daytime/nighttime parade ($50 million) - $250 million
Cars dark ride ($100 million) - $350 million
Monsters Inc dark ride ($100 million) - $475 million
relocated Laugh Floor ($50 million) - $525 million
reskin of HITSK for Up/Bug's Life ($25 million) - $550 million

One Man's Dream moved to Main Street, USA... replaced by Pixar Story ($25 million) - $575 million
B&TB replacement along with an additional theater ($75 million) - $650 million
Mermaid replacement ($50 million) - $700 million
Disney Junior upgrade ($25 million) - $725 million
Incredibles E-ticket using Twister ride system ($250 million) - $975 million
Gusteau's TS ($50 million) - $1.025 billion
Mos Eisley Cantina TS ($50 million) - $1.075 billion
Star Wars theming ($75 million) - $1.115 billion
Star Wars speedbike coaster ($175 million) - $1.29 billion
X-Wing/TIE spinners ($50 million) - $1.34 billion
Millenium Falcon walkthrough/M&G ($75 million) - $1.415 billion
Star Tours facade upgrade ($25 million) - $1.44 billion
Indy upgrade/revamp ($50 million) - $1.49 billion
MuppetVision upgrade ($35 million) - $1.525 billion
Muppets C-ticket dark ride ($50 million) - $1.575 billion
Muppet Mobile Labs/Electric Mayhem Streetmosphere ($20 million) - $1.595 billion
Swedish Chef/Gonzo reskins for Mama Melrose's/old Pizza Planet ($50 mlilion) - $1.645 billion
Sunset/Animation placemaking ($55 million) - $1.7 billion
New parking garages/reworked backstage ($300 million) - $2 billion

While I'd love to see a Mystic Manor clone added to Sunset, Toontown where Animation Courtyard/the space by RnRC is, and some theming upgrades for RnRC... those aren't essential.

Giving the park some thematically distinct areas (Star Wars/Indy, Muppets, Pixar, Disney Animation/Toontown, Old Hollywood) without the 'you're on a movie set' pretense would do wonders for making DHS a worthwhile park.

If New Fantasyland cost $425 million and Pandora cost $500 million, surely all of that could happen for roughly $2 billion. Especially if Backlot Tour and LMA being demolished isn't included in the cost.
OK, I know it's 2015 and Prices has gone up everywhere and I don't live in FL/Orlando. SIGH!:( So I don't have the knowledge as our insiders do. However, $25 Mil for a Resturant Relocation??? Why so much???

Let alone the F! Revamp for $50 Mil -$200 Mil. Again why so much, the price sounds crazy to me! What can F! get for that much? How much was ROE’s new lasers? FOF? How much did MK spend on the changes to Share A Dream Come True(Giving the Castle float a full time job after the accident, Disney Dreams Come True, Celebrate A Dream Come True)? Could DHS do a good refresh of F! for less and put the extra $ in the Pyro Bank because I’m assuming that F! and Frozen/nightly Fireworks can’t be cheap. Unless it’s the same cost as MSEP/Wishes, then WDW is used to that.

Or could DHS send the extra $ to EPCOT/MK to help with the replacement of ROE or MSEP/Wishes? Wonder how much DL spent on making then fixing the new F! Dragon, the F! Fountains and the little 60th adds in Soundational and PPP?

As for a Parking Garage, anyone think DHS would pull a Mickey And Friends and still have Trams between the Garage and DHS? I LOVE riding the Trams!

GMR-Should that be even on that list? It’s like almost done and in my mind, shouldn’t be included in the “future” DHS Expansion cost.

Every time I try a well-timed "Thanks, Obama" joke, the mods delete it. Apparently they think my humor is too politically charged (even though it's just that--humor).

So I'll just say... "gubbmint."

ETA: And really, "thanks, Obama" is the most politically neutral joke there is. It can be a conservative who doesn't like the President or a liberal mocking the conservative who blames everything on the President.

But, but, but....Elsa is shooting off fireworks every night now!!!

First… I really want to make a horrible joke out of that but I'm trying to be good these days…

While Studios is above average of late if you take out Star Wars, it still does not make up for the dumpster fire of attendance they had from January through March.

Give me a week for the quarter to finish out and then we will look at some numbers property wide of attendance distribution…

I realize there is a lot of Frozen hate (and it's not my favorite movie by far) but DHS's Frozen Fever brought us back to that park twice on this vacation for a total of 3 half days+. The sing along is worth keeping in the former Idol theater for a while at minimum (and was the best show I saw this trip), and fireworks at DHS kept us there rather than park hopping. And honestly? They were spectacular fireworks, on par with Wishes.

And when you see all the little girls in Anna and Elsa gear, right now if Disney wasn't milking that cash cow I'd be worried.

I'm not against Frozen. I just think they go to that well too often. I want some differently themed cupcakes.

Fireworks at DHS look great. Hope the overhaul will not include one of those modern projection shows. Gimme some fireworks instead, Frozen or Star Wars or movie themed, all fine with me!

They are actually at BoardWalk Club Level. Been fixing the rooms up since May to get them ready. Even tho recently refurbed, they had to get them even better.

I was at BWI in May, asked why rooms were closed, on the floor, and they said b/c every single WDW high up was coming for a meeting.

Why the need to get recently refurbed club level rooms plussed even further at a room where the deluxe holiday rate is over 1K a night? At that pricepoint the rooms by default would far exceed the luxury/amenity demands of a Board Director of a Dow 30 company, right?....

Has probably already been mentioned in here but in case it hasn't he visited Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk. He could well have visited other places but he definitely went to those two at the very least.
