More importantly, if this redo will actually expand capacity/attraction count.
Even if it does, people will say it doesn't. They'll add up every attraction that EVER existed and count them as being "eliminated" as part of the project. Those same people count 20K Leagues against New Fantasyland as if that has anything at all to do with it.

That's where Star Wars has a Harry Potter-like opportunity.

That's my point. Pixar and Star Wars will increase the volume. I know both have a presence at DHS already, but they'll be more immersive. Look at Be Our Guest, for example. I have no doubt we'll be seeing more features like this in this park refurb.

The longer guests spend time in the park, the more likely they're going to spend time looking at merch and needing a meal. Thus, more capacity in that regard will also be needed.

EDITED: Corrected grammar (it bothered me, haha)

It's more speculation of what could be done with the $1.75 billion-$2 billion budget... and if the parking garages aren't included in the cost...

Considering NFL/Pandora cost $450-500 million, it's clear a lot can be done with that gigantic of a budget if TDO is smart with the money.

Just trying to figure out if we'll see more than just a couple Star Wars/Pixar additions and parking garages. More importantly, if this redo will actually expand capacity/attraction count.

I Do appreciate your passions but I think you woefully underestimate the political process that undermines the creativity here.

At this point, studios has nowhere to go but up.

Just look at SWW numbers and that should show you the effect it has

You never know, they may be smart and swing for the fences.
well we know they re building a flex theatre by TOT and RNRC so that's part of this expansion along with TSMM 3rd track so that's what 100 million right there and you know there has to be new infrastructure if they truly want to expand Pixar and star wars

I think you'd be surprised at the amount of cannibalization that happens in theme park merch / F&B. If I have four shops and close one of them, I'm not going to lose 25% of my merchandise sales. The guy who was going to buy his Mickey t-shirt at shop A will now just buy it at shop B, C, or D. The same is true (perhaps more so) for Food and Beverage. I'm not going to sell more lunches by having more restaurants, because each person is still going to eat one lunch and only one lunch.

The two biggest exceptions are when sit-down dining locations are at capacity (in which case adding capacity adds volume) or when you have some kind of unique offering. That's where Star Wars has a Harry Potter-like opportunity. You might be able to sell Disney Joe a Star Wars t-shirt AND a Mickey t-shirt, rather than just swapping around where he gets the Mickey t-shirt.

More quick service locations at busier times can also help guest statisfaction by reducing queue time. But yes everyone is going to eat lunch no matter how many outlets there are. You could sell more snacks or slushie drinks by having more unique offerings (Butterbeer).

I think the only way more shops could mean more sales is if they are ride exits so you pass more merchandise and therefore are exposed to it more.

That's one of the problems with the park, the chaotic layout needs to be fixed. I don't want to see the Chinese Theater from the doorway of the Cantina.

Hopefully the parking lot money isnt included in the in park budget. They aren't cheap to build.

They aren't cheap at all. I was amazed at how much it would cost (edit: in general, I'm not an insider and would not know how much Disney's structure would cost). Unfortunately, I will be surprised if the parking lot were not included in the budget. However, it's worth pointing out that the loss of the parking part of the project wouldn't necessarily translate into having more stuff at the theme park.

it will depend on the execution...if they decide to go small just because star wars does well it might not be the homerun we all want

I agree, But with the board members we have. They didn't get rich by going small. I think they will want the big WOW Star Wars can bring along with a huge potential ROI.

hope you re right..if this was just a star wars expansion I would feel a little bit more confident since this is a DHS expansion who knows what the board will decide...im assuming they will do what Iger wants to do since he's "the man" in their eyes
