I'm not a gay conservative, though people would probably say so - as anyone who is gay who isn't super-far-left is considered "conservative" LOL.

That said - as you would probably agree - in spite of the fact that they are calling it the "don't say gay" bill, like just about everything to do with alphabet politics these days, the reason they are doing it has really nothing to do with us.

The impetus for people wanting this law is because they don't want some little 8 year-old boy to say "I like the color pink!" and then have the teacher say, "Oh really? Then maybe you are actually a girl. You can choose, you know - would you like to be a little girl instead of a little boy?"

The sad thing is this is far more about politics than schools or gay people, someone is setting up a Presidential bid and this is campaign fodder.

That sounds a bit extreme, does it not?
That's not why the bill was created. It was created because the author literally believes that "gayness" is a spreadable condition. Watch the whole video - it's enlightening.

ETA: The sad part is that these people think their kids aren't talking about all this stuff when teachers and parents aren't around...they literally think kids are stupid.

Accountability is an actual surprise from Chapek. Let's see if he's a man of his word and can follow through with it. They need to if they want to survive this.

All eyes are on Disney right now, as they continue to toe the line on issues that can no longer be ignored. Gone are the days where Disney can get away with doing the bare minimum. They've gotten away with it for way too long. No longer can they throw in 2 frames of LGBTQ+ representation that can easily be cut out for foreign $$$, and call it a day. I mean, even Pixar employees have come out and said that Disney has pressured them to cut majorly cut back LGBT representation (most likely in Luca.) Disney wants it's cake, and wants to eat it too. Years ago they could have gotten away with a half assed apology and zero follow through, but that's no longer the case. Each new generation is more and more radicalized, and has less and less patience for this bull. Look at University of North Texas' Response to Anti-trans Texas House candidate Jeff Younger's visit. Sure, pockets of homophobia still exist in younger generations, but that is because of family influence. They'll grow out of that real quick. If Disney wants to be around in 20 years, they need to start making changes today. Kind of like Climate Change, but we already have enough to discuss here.

The good news? Big time movie scooper and reviewer Grace Randolph has confirmed in her review for Turning Red that Disney is actively changing things. Apparently starting with Lightyear, LGBT representation will be unmistakeable and intentional. And not just in side support characters either, according to Randolph who has very regularly been the first to report things proven true, stories about LGBT main characters are actively being created and representation across Disney media will only continue to grow and develop.

Congratulations Florida, you got your bill passed. You won the battle, but this war is going to decimate you. Maybe one day you'll be able to call up Putin for some apology suggestions.

Also, reading through all of the responses is super telling of so many people on here. I'm sure I've seen this on here before, but it bears repeating: CaptainAmerica, your hero would absolutely hate you.

The problem is they have to walk the line, they are a company that is founded on being wholesome and family friendly, a “G-rated” company can get away with being gay friendly but if they cross the line into being “gay activists” they’re going to incur the wrath of the far right.

They should have stuck with their original flimsy statement and stayed out of this one, now they are doomed no matter what they do.

Disney and other entertainment companies have absolutely taken stands on these kinds of bigoted laws in the past and they should continue to do so. This is a pandering law in search of a problem that does not exist. Nobody is teaching grade schoolers about inappropriate things, but this law singles out LGBT persons as something that can not be discussed. What about the teacher who now has her hands tied when a little girl is being bullied for having two moms? Or the kid who comes from a brutally homophobic household and is outed by their school, putting their well being in danger?

This is the company that risked a boycott from the right in the 90s when it became one of the first Fortune 500 companies to offer same sex partner benefits and that makes millions every year selling pride merchandise. Please. They should condemn this hurtful, bigoted law.
LGBT+ people existing shouldn't be a political bias, yet I see toxic posts every day dismissing at least one of the letters.

This law gives those deniers carte blanche to go after teachers for acknowledging the mere existence of something (or someone) they don't like.

That's messed up, even for Florida. Also, as others have noted, it will make the state that much less appealing to many potential transplants who were otherwise happy in LA.
ETA: Regardless...this should never have even been written, IMO. This is just politicians victimizing children to appeal to bigots and homophobes.
