There's ride audio for WDW's SM? Not being sarcastic...just never have noticed it. (Unlike DL's SM where the ride audio is right there in your ears and so much a part of the experience.)
It's an off ride system playing a continuous loop that was added locally in August 2010. Much to the distaste of Glendale. The volume varies depending how much of it is working and who sets the levels.

Yep. I ride SM at least once on every trip and can honestly say that I've never heard that music before. In contrast, I've ridden DL's SM only once where it wasn't Ghost Galaxy or Hyperspace Mountain, and yet I can recall the DL SM music clearly in my mind.

Not only is the WDW SM music inferior to DL's, it's essentially non-existent to me--apparently due to the low volume and ride noise.

Yes the ride has it's own soundtrack. I remember it was mostly quite and due to the speed of your ride vehicle you would hear it for a couple seconds including the sound effects. It's an inferior and cheaper version of Disneyland's SM since WDW almost gotten the same treatment with gaining it's own onboard audio and better effects.

Photo update as of Thursday, August 18. The front of the attraction, and the covered shelter to the left, have become a play area. There is also track work being done, but it can only be seen if you ride the WDW train around the perimeter.

As far as it possibly receiving the upgrades that DL got, why does it always have to be the SAME upgrades? Would we be crazy for wanting WDW's version of BTMR to actually be unique and receive upgrades that are not the exact same?
If you have seen what they did with the DLR version, you'd understand.mit doesn't have to be identical, but they did a great job, an impressive job,

Speaking of speaking of upgrades, what about Hatbox Ghost?
No idea, I know there is another ride-ready Hatbox ghost that's in storage somewhere, but I've still not yet heard from anyone that would actually know if Hatty is coming to MK. (I've heard it plenty of times from bus drivers and HM CMs ... but you know how much that's worth.)

Someone mentioned all the mountains getting refurbed which would be great news for Space Mountain. Why they let it sit and be filthy is beyond me. It's the easiest attraction exterior in all of WDW to paint, it's just white!

Or they can cover it with leftover vinyl tarp from Planet Hollywood.

BTMR at MK is the closest of the 'clone' rides between there and DL (IMO), which is a good thing. If they can come close to what DL did with BTMR all you guys will be blown away! (pun intended). Seriously though, the final lift effects are awesome at DL. We're heading down to MK this December, hope it's up and ready to go!

I've heard from someone I know over at SeaWorld that at least one effect will be added, don't know how a SeaWorld guy knows about Disney though, but that's what he told me.
