The festival center never made any sense. Be it financially or programmatically. It was about hiring a starchitect because Eisner used to hire starchitects. For most visitors the experience would have been a big concrete floor, a big concrete ceiling and no air conditioning. It wouldn’t have been a good space to actually do much of anything.

I've been a big supporter of the current era of Epcot but the new Communicore hall genuinely angers me. It is so bland and sterile and plain looking and I really don't think seeing it in person will change that for me personally. I think it's col to have an event space but knowing what this was SUPPOSED to be... It's sad.

On one hand, I am excited to see how DIsnye utilizes the stage area for New Years because it could be a great party space.

As someone who's career goal is to get into themed architecture, I wonder what has happened within Disney imagineering the reason why the architecture on property has fallen off dramatically. Like between the DVC resorts and the Epcot redesign, what the hell is going on??

Why did we need a "Flex Space" to begin with? For the festivals? Ok, I will buy that, but it doesn't seem purpose set up for festivals...It just seems like a big empty charmless room. Since it was purpose built for the Festivals could it not have been designed to reflect that? This is supposed to be World Celebration, Could they have designed the space to look like a celebration? Could it have been designed to look lively and beautiful? Did it have to look like a an abandones shopping mall or high school cafeteria?

I walked through the festival center and past the new meet area today.

All else aside, the wait for Mickey and friends (I presume Minnie and Goofy since they were gone from their spots) was 25 minutes and already had a ton of people standing outside in the heat. I didn't get to see how much of the queue went inside, but the entire outdoor switchback was full.

It's an entirely new building, right? Not a retrofit? It seems like really poor planning for it to not even be able to handle a twenty five minute line without having a huge segment of that queue wait outside.

I know Red Carpet Dreams (Hollywood Studios Mickey and Minnie spot) also has an outside queue, but I'm sure guests would rather they not copy that.

how could you possibly give it any more than a lukewarm review? There is nothing here to get excited about...or even interested in.... they should have left the original half building if all they wanted was an open hallway. it at least would have been a glass walled structure and should have saved them millions... Aside from looking worlds better. They could have added the stage and covered patio and had anough money left over to make it a lot nicer than what we currenty see.
Why was this building not at the very least, designed with a roof deck and garden area for fireworks parties etc> As long as it is a flex space party rental hall, seems like a wedding on the roof garden in that location would have been ideal...
