Are these projects even usually approved by the board? That also stood out to me as odd.

Perhaps something like the 60 billion Capex or something on the level of Shanghai Disneyland. But - Bob needs the boards sign off on a Coco attraction?

the board only signs off on huge projects like 800 mil - 1 billion + range. A big thunder expansion or a coco ride can be approved by Iger or the CFO.

While we're basically all talking semantics at this point as we don't know the actual inner workings of the TWDC, but the board/Iger did approve what ($60B?) for Parks & Resorts over the next 10 years... Isn't it up to Josh to approve and allocate those funds?

Bob will be approving the main components. That’s likely why he was at WDW this week. He wouldn’t sweat it in the swamps for nothing.

Correct. And that team is in Florida.

Florida has 60% of the number of Imagineers that Glendale has.
That’s interesting considering the fact Disney is being sued right now because a lot of employees moved to Florida just for the HQ to be cancelled.

Are they all working from home or is Disney actually renting out some office space?

The executives that report directly to the CEO have a lot of power and decision making, but overall direction and massive projects are all funneled through the CEO (and the board). Josh would work out what he thinks are the best options with the direction and budget - but he wouldn’t be able to green light massive projects like this on his own.

But there’s no reason to think that Bob isn’t deeply aware and involved. This spending is partially jazz hands for investors - but the parks are their most consistent profit faucet and they see Epic, Zelda, more Harry Potter and pokémon coming. Never mind the 4th Universal gate. They have a LOT of people running numbers, running potential outcomes and running attendance/revenue impact over the next 20 years. They’re preparing to battle and luckily we should be the winners (if they stop choking every cent out of every guest that is).

Walt Disney Imagineering already had an office complex at Epcot that has been expanded relatively recently. There are other miscellaneous facilities as well in the area.

Hey y’all. Have not been on here for awhile. I wanted to just catch myself up on BBT rumors. I did read a bit about Coco being phase one. Is that a strong rumor? Would it be a whole mini-land, or just the attraction? Is there any more word on what the rest of BBT may be like? (Praying for Villains)

Nothing new.

Guessing D23 this August will be the next update.

I don't get people's continued obsession with trying to force Coco in Epcot. Just because it's a newer IP taking place in Mexico so it has to go there? The plan they are going for now is so much better. (also Cabs sell merch better than people think), Disney doesn't need to pay tons for extension queue modifications or the supposed crowds making the pavilion inoperable just for Coco to get a 80s hand me down. Everyone wins in this scenario, so I can't grasp why people are so fixated on the presumably cancelled worse scenario. Not every ride needs to be this overcrowded 1 hour wait, pavilion was never meant for that
That's been my core emphasis too for a very long time. Others flat out calling it out aren't looking at the factors like Three Cab's and most all Mexico Donald Duck which is the most popular meet and greet's there. The absolute though is to maintain a balance at Epcot with easy walk on rides vs the E tickets. They are the ones that will complain about then everything Epcot is waiting waiting waiting. Three Caballero's is the last ride that showcases Mexico City and culture, Coco would not therefore Coco fits in Magic Kingdom because it goes beyond the focus of country just the same as you wouldn't build the Casita Madrigal House in World Showcase and call it Columbia. The pavilion wasn't built for a line like Frozen Ever After. Just like saying Philharmagic sucks when it's main feature is Donald and Mickey and all the Renaissance famous classics. There's a reason why since Coco the film was released that they decorated tribute the front of the pavilion only.

They could modify and make room for an attraction queue...even if it runs down the side of the building.... I think Coco offers a little more about Mexican culture than looking for Donald...When we all start saying we don't want a good ride in EPCOT because it will be crowded, it starts to feel like backward thinking.... If it's a great ride in EPCOT, it will take the heat off the few attractions that are usually packed... The more attractions, the more things will even out. Bottom line is the park needs more attractions... I would rather see them build something that is a better fit culturally for a Mexico Pavilion with their own Mexican IP Character than looking for an American Donald Duck...

Isn't the ride system for the rumored Coco attraction supposed to be Soarin 2.0? I feel like it would be kind of redundant to have the next generation version of Soarin in the same park as the original Soarin.
