Best memory with a CM

Having seen a recent thread about a bad experience with a CM, how about a great time with them, because there are so many for us I need to consider which one to tell. And I know there are a ton of them to be told here. Well, here goes. 1997, our flight down my younger son and I were sitting next to a very lovely young lady, now then as well as now he has blonde hair and very blue eyes so you can guess what she thought of him. As we landed she realized that we were staying there she had told us that she was in the LOLK show at AK, well when she showed up we discovered that she was KABIBI, one of the main singers in the show. After the show was over we were taken to a CM only area and she came out with pretty much the whole cast in costume plus Timon, we talked took pictures and video, absolutly a memory that has yet to be topped.

I've got a wonderful story. When Wishes had just converted to the fireworks perimeter around the castle in the MK, my husband and I had anniversary celebration ressies at Cinderella's Royal Table with my sister and her husband, on our last day before heading back to Chicago. Due to the new fireworks show, they had a lot of gliches and were running an hour behind schedule. So we dejectedly walked down the ramp to the front of the castle since we didn't want to miss the new Wishes show. We encountered a CM manager in a white shirt and tie, and my sister told him our story. Wait right here and watch Wishes, he said, and come back to CRT and ask for me, Jim. There was a mob of people waiting for Wishes, but he escorted us to just inside the rope on the ramp. THen he and an assistant came out with mini-burgers, mini-hot dogs, chicken strips and sodas while we watched. I asked Jim how we could eat at CRT when it was close to closing, and he said, we will remain open for you. We went up and had a wonderful meal and were indeed treated like royalty. We asked Jim if we should leave soon after the meal because it was the end of the night, and was closing, even the stores were closed. He said, take your time, the Magic Kingdom stays open until the last guest leaves and you will be the last guests. When we exited down to Main St, there only Security was present. THe lights were still on, the music was still on. I asked when they would turn off the music, etc., and he said, not until the last guests leave, and that is you! Talk about turning a negative into a positive!!! Jim stayed on at CRT for several years and was promoted to another Disney location, and we have followed him and go to see him every time we are in WDW. And I wrote some whopper emails to his management! Well done, Jim!!

I've met some wonderful CMs over the years, two of which come to mind . . . Spencer is a concierge presently working at the Grand Floridian. We met him when he was working as a greeter/concierge at the Contemporary. He is what every CM should aspire to be, i.e., friendly, knowledgable, etc. (Spencer visits these boards, so "Hi" Spence!!) Lauri is another CM who WDW should be proud to have as a CM. We met Lauri when she worked as a manager at the Prime Time. She is funny, friendly, etc. She recently got promoted and is working as a manager at AK. We make it a point when we visit WDW to stop and say hello to both of these amazing people. Stopping by to talk to them makes my trip.

I have a couple as well, but I'll just share the most recent. In September I was in Orlando at a convention (my first ever trip away from my boys 6 & 1). I had one evening free and was able to go to MNSSHP. I felt a little guilty being there with out my family- but I couldn't pass up a chance to go- even if I was alone. As I was standing in line to get a picture with Cruella DeVille, I was on my cell with my 6yo. When it was my turn for the pic- I asked Cruella if she wouldn't mind saying 'hello' to my son who was at home. Not only did she say hello- but she had a three minute conversation with him while there was still a line waiting to see her! It was magical! With tears streaming down my face- I thanked her tremendously. What an awesome thing to be able to share the magic with my son! She is now- and will be- my favorite character!!

My most magical experience with a CM was in 1987 on my first visit to Disney World. It was right around my birthday, and I was wearing one of those stickers that said "Hi My, Name Is.. Mitch" (or something like that). Anyway, I was walking past Spaceship Earth, and a CM looked at me and said "Hey Mitch, great to see you again buddy". I was astonished that the CM knew my name, keep in mind I was 9 years old, and didn't even think that all he did was read my name tag. That is one of my fondest memories of the magic that Disney CM's spread :king:

We have had so many great CM experiences that it's hard for me to choose. I definitely can't narrow it down to one so here are my top two favorite CM experiences...

1. Back in April of 2006 we were seriously considering joining the DVC. Literally the day before our trip we had sat through a horrific timeshare presentation that left a horrible taste in our mouths. The salesman was snotty and very pushy and he didn't answer our questions adequately. When we mentioned that we always love to vacation at WDW he made several smart remarks about it. We had been reading up on the DVC and we decided we wanted to sit through the presentation at Saratoga Springs. The DVC sales representative that we had was an amazing man named Paul Kuhn. Paul was/is amazing. He gave a very detailed explanation of what DVC ownership entails, he answered all of our questions and he wasn't pushy at all! We told him that we really wanted to join but just couldn't afford it at the time. He took our phone number and told us he would call us periodically with updates and offers and we could just let him know when we were ready and able to join.

Over the course of the next year Paul called us many times and was never pushy at all about it. We got to know Paul pretty well and when it came time to plan our next vacation in the spring of 2007 we decided it was time to join the DVC. When we called Paul he was genuinely excited for us and he made the entire process as smooth as possible. Now everytime we go down we schedule a meeting with him and we usually spend an hour or so just chatting and catching up with each other. I also have Sleep Apnea and I have to sleep with a Cpap machine that requires distilled water. We were concerned about how we were gonna get the water so we called Paul. He said that he passes a store on his way to work everyday and he would be happy to pick up the water and have it ready for us when we arrived at Saratoga Springs. Sure enough, when we got there the water was waiting on us. Every trip when we go chat with him he feeds us ice cream and has a DVC shuttle take us wherever we wanna go. I can't tell you how much Paul has helped us and what an amazing guy he is. If anyone is considering joining the DVC or just wants to do the presentation, I highly recommend going with Paul Kuhn.

Meet Paul...

2. One morning in April of 2007 we were eating breakfast at the Main Street Bakery when we met Jack. We got our food and went through his line. My wife was wearing a Pirates of the Caribbean shirt that said I LOVE JACK on it and Jack was cracking jokes about it and making us laugh. We paid for our food and sat down to eat. After we finished we were needing a bag for some leftovers, we went up to the lady behind the counter and she was real snotty about it and didn't give us a bag. We immediately thought of jack and we went over to him and he got a bag and gathered our leftovers for us and put it into the bag. We talked for a few minutes and then thanked him for being so friendly and helpful and we told him that folks like him are what make WDW so magical. He thanked us and we began to walk off when he told us to hang on a minute. He reached into his chest pocket ,pulled out two beautiful Tinker Belle pins and proceded to give them to us. As he did he said he wanted to thank us for making WDW magical for him. He said it's people like us that make him love his job so much. We teared up a bit, thanked him again and then headed on our way. It was a rainy miserable day at MK that day but he made it a beautiful one.

When we were back at WDW in October we were determined to go visit Jack again but he was never there when we went by. We were there again in December and as we walked by the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor we looked in the window...and there was Jack! We didn't plan on getting anything to eat but we were determined to see Jack again so we waited in line for probably ten minutes. When we got up to the counter to pay we started having second thoughts about talking to him because it was very busy and he was swamped, we didn't want to slow things down for him and possibly make his job harder. We ordered our ice cream and walked out. A few minutes later we looked around and noticed another CM relieving Jack at the end of his shift...we knew this was our chance. We quickly ran back up to the counter and introduced ourselves and we were pleasantly surprised that Jack remembered us! We talked for a few minutes and thanked him again for his help that day eight months earlier and for giving us those pins. As we started to walk away he got a big grin on his face, reached into his pocket and gave us two more beautiful Tinker Belle pins(they were different from the first two)! We asked him if we could please have our picture taken with him and he said he would be honored. Ladies and gentleman, meet Jack...

I would like to thank Paul, Jack, Hickory at Whispering Canyon and all of the other amazing CMs (who truly care)that make our vacations so magical. Without you guys Disney wouldn't be what it is today...The Happiest Place On Earth!

Now, if I could just get my employees to act like you guys...lol

Lisa Leonard (CM) and Snow White

My dad has a picture of him and Snow White sitting on the steps of City Hall from 1972. On our annual WDW vacation, in 2004, my dad decided he wanted to recreate the picture. I never thought it would work out.

It was New Years Day, Jan 1, 2004. My dad asked a City Hall CM if this was possible and she had said, "Sorry but no." Not satisfied, my dad wandered outside and ran into a Disney CM who was not your regular Main Street CM. She was dressed in a business suit, had the walkie talkie radio head piece, yet was picking up trash with her broom by the flagpole. Again, my dad inquired to recreate the old photo, showed this CM the photo, and she said that without a doubt it would get done!

After lots of conversation and introductions with Lisa the CM (who is married to a Rockapella from Carmen SanDiego) and other higher ranking Disney CMs, my dad's dream came through. We were told to stand by City Hall for the 3pm parade, with Lisa at our side.

Sure enough, Snow White came through on her float waving and smiling specifically in our direction. As the float went backstage, it stopped, Snow disembarked, and headed in our direction. Soon, Disney CMs came out and roped off the mid section of the City Hall steps, allowing a personal meet and greet and photo op with my family and Snow White, exclusively, to recreate this picture. Snow was completely in character, exclaiming how my dad has not changed one bit and how she remembers my mom who is now as gorgeous as ever. They reminisced and shared a lot of laughs. Snow and my dad faithfully recreated the picture--everything to the exact step, hand poisitions, body language, EVERYTHING!

Afterwards, we took a bunch of family photos with Snow White and I, at 21, the same age as my dad in 1972, took the same posed picture with Snow White. Snow kissed us all goodbye and "seeyou next time" and we said goodbye after a good 20 minutes with her. We were celebrities on that day. And mind you, this was before the Year of a Million Dreams. These pictures we will always remember, and I cannot wait to recreate them in another 30 years with my son.

Lisa Leonard made everything happen, Snow White was fantastic, and that entire moment was the highlight of all Disney trips.

If I knew how to post the pictures, I would. They sure are neat.

Best Disney memory ever, courtesy of the BEST CMs ever!

Great story!

Posting a picture is pretty easy, it's just a multi-step process. First, click on the "Photo Albums" link all the way at the top of the page. Then, log into the photo section of the site. Click "Upload Photos." Use the browse buttons to locate the individual picture files stored on your computer. You can enter a title and description if you want, then click "Upload/Submit." Once the files are finished uploading, click on "My Photos," then the individual pictures you want to post. A more detailed page will come up. Copy the text under "Direct Link," about 3/4 of the way down the page. When typing your post, click on the little yellow button with the mountains on it. Paste the link from the "Direct Link" on the photo page into the dialog box that pops up. That should do it.

For the past couple of years we have taken our family trip to Disney in February ( which two of my children have birthdays in ) Ever time we check in we tell the front desk about it and on the kids birthday they get a autographed card. This past year we stayed at AKL and told them as we checked in. Well on the kids birthday they just forgot but the kids where very upset. I went and talked to a CM at the front desk named Jeff and he said he was very sorry and asked what time we would be back in our room that night. Well at 9PM there was a knock on the door and a CM came in with the biggest birthday cake I have ever seen as well as cards from Mickey and Snow White. My kids went nuts!!! We will never forget that night and could never thank Jeff enough.

And that, my good friends, is what makes me proud to be a CM. That maybe one day we can all create magic like that, and look us to amazing people like Lisa.
I got chills, thank you so much for sharing.

I have two really wonderful memories of CMs in WDW.

The first one took place when I was a little girl. When I was little I absolutely loved Belle (and still do!) because she loved to read just like me. So of course I absolutely could not wait to meet her when my family went to WDW that year. When I went to meet her however, I completely freaked out because I was afraid of the Beast, and it seemed I couldn't see Belle without having to stand close to him. My mom went over to Belle to tell her the situation, and she completely understood. Belle came over, picked me up in her arms, and explained to me that the Beast was really just a prince at heart, and that I should give him a kiss on the nose. To this day, I still kiss Beast on the nose! The story gets better though, because I was turning 5, and I wanted more than anything for Belle to come to my birthday party! So I had my parents bring me back to see her again so I could give her an invitation. I'm not sure whether or not this was the same young woman playing Belle as earlier, but either way we did give her the invitation. A few weeks later, I got a large envelope in the mail, and inside of it was a picture of the entire cast of the Beauty and the Beast stage show, with a note on it for me, along with a full length letter on MGM Studios stationary, to me from Belle. She talked on and on about how wonderful it was to see me again, and how beautiful I had looked in my new blue dress, and then filled me in on all the wonderful people she had been meeting from far off places. She even threw in a hello from "Mrs. Potts and the others." To this day, both letter and picture hang framed on my wall :)

My second story is much shorter, and has to do with my younger brother. When he was little, my brother had a lot of issues as far as being an extremely picky eater. One of the things he absolutely loved was chocolate cake. My family and I went to dinner at Beaches and Cream one night, and we were waited on by a very wonderful woman named Darlene (whom I believe still works there). My brother started carrying on about how he wanted his chocolate cake, just like he had had the night before at Cape May. Of course, Beaches and Cream does not serve chocolate cake, but to my family's pleasure, Darlene took it upon herself to walk next door and get my brother what I believe was the last piece of chocolate cake on the Cape May Buffet that night! My family was so thrilled by this that my dad even made up a little song, which he still sings. "Darlene is good, Darlene is great! She brought us our chocolate cake!"

oh, i LOVE reading these! :sohappy: great idea!!! this magic is why we love disney, right?

i come from a small town in indiana, and most people who are born there stick around. 99% of my family is still there. anyway...my mother went to school with a woman named Joetta, who became an Imagineer at Disney back in the 80s/early 90s. we visited the parks when i was 11, the first trip we made with my younger siblings, and met with Joetta. she explained about Imagineering, showed us around the parks, and made magical things happen all week. we were even grand marshalls of the MK parade! it was *amazing*, and i have wanted to be an Imagineer ever since. it was mind blowing to me that someone that my family know could dream & create such a wonderful place, that real people from normal places could work magic.

Back in 2002 My wife and I who were not married at the time were walking from Frontier Land towards Fantasy Land. I saw a guy out of the corner of my eye saying something but I ignored it. Then I sensed the guy following us. Several seconds later the guy came up to me and said "Sir I have to give you a ticket" I said what. He said this is a no frown zone and I was impersonating a Disney character named Grumpy. He was like I have to give you a ticket and throw you in the stockade. He wanted to know why we were so sad. We told him we were leaving to go home within the hour. He then said I am sorry to hear that and asked if there was anything we wanted to see before we left. We said Peter Pan but the line was 45 mins at the time. He brought us over there and got us right thru the fast pass line and onto the Attraction. I shall never forget Bill for that.

On my recent trip to WDW in October, I really didn't expect much. It was my vacation, I was on a solo trip. It was my first trip to WDW in over 14 years. It was special.

The second day I was inside the parks, I went to MGM Studios (now Hollywood) and had to get my thrill on both Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster.

I must have hit Tower of Terror 7 times or so on my first day at MGM. On my fourth go-around on Tower, which is quite impressive, cast member Ashley, who is from SUNY-Oswego, put me in the front row with two other people, but these people didn't speak English that well, so I ended up squeezing past them into my seat. She must have noticed something, as I didn't, because when our elevator returned a new cast member bellhop appeared. But before he let everyone off the elevator, he looked at me and said something.

He asked for me to come see Ashley "at the front desk." I heard some "uh ohs" and "you're in trouble" comments from the others as we got off the elevator. Then I went one way with the cast member and everyone went to the exit.

So, instead of leaving the building, I walked with the cast member down a long hall and into the "backstage" area, entered a sleek modern elevator, and went back to the queque for the ride. I was told to wait.

When Ashley saw me she told me to stand "right here on this square, and don't move until I tell you to do so." I looked at the sqaure number. I was in row 1.

I ended up sitting in the first row and first seat, so I got the best seat in the elevator, and I didn't have to wait in line or go through the preshow for a second consecutive elevator ride. How awesome is that?

I consider this my own "dream reward." I probably will never experience something like this again, so this was special.

You got what's called a "Magical Moment". Those are special things that regular cast members can do to make guests trips special. There done in addition to what the Dream Squad give out. My friend and I got a Magical Moment on our trip in October. We were having breakfast at the Crystal Palace and our server had noticed our Birthday Buttons and we both got a cupcake with candle and she led the surrounding tables in a round of "Happy Birthday" and we got a Magical Moment card signed by the characters.

Here a few.

The first, most memorable is an example of just how stupid some of us are and how lucky we are that the cast members knowhow to deal with us. I was about to board Space Mountain (before the days of the queue line safety bars) and told to stand in my row. I noticed that the current car had empty seating where I was. So, I stepped off the platform right as the car was released.

Before I could fall onto the moving car or the track a cast member grabbed me and pulled me back from the brink of injury. He gently told me to wait behind the yellow line and went about his job. I thanked him profusely and apologized for my not listening. He smiled and said it was okay. I deserved to get yelled at, or...something. But the cast member saved me not just from injury, but also from total embarrassment. I immediately reported his heroism to cast services.

The second, only important to me. I am the guest who always is looking for something that they don't have at the store, or I want something special done with it. On one of THOSE trips where I was being difficult I encountered a cast member who spent an entire HOUR with me tracking down every single item I wanted and figured out the best way to get it home. She never once made me feel like the pain I was. And, when I returned to the store on another day, she remembered me by name and came right over to see if I needed any more searching. Things like that make my day. I never get any decent service in REAL life. Not even from folk who get a commission!

The last cast member was actually the MANAGER of the California Grill. My wife and I decided to try our luck at eating there on Christmas Day without a reservation. It was PACKED. Not a chance. A huge line. The manager, (George Miliotes) was trying to placate the line of folks. He spotted us looking over at the lounge. We said we didn't have a reservation, but would be content to eat in the lounge, or the bar. No dice, but he said if we didn't mind eating at the SUSHI BAR, he could seat us. AWESOME. He then proceeded to wait on us personally. And, as one of the creators of the restaurant, he knew what the best bets were for food and wine. He recommended everything to us, allowed us to sample three or four wines before we settled on a bottle. Amazing. He was bar none the best "waiter" I every had. And he just kept making our night magical, while still tending to the entire restaurant. A year LATER, we went back and he immediately came up to greet us! He then got us a window table and told us all about the latest wines he'd obtained. He didn't wait on us that night, but he did check on us. And as long as he was manager, he always remembered us by name!
