Best memory with a CM

I don't know if the grandparent of the guest realized this was magical, but I think a princess and I made magic today. When it came time for this one girl to see the princess, Grandmother said that she had had an accident. Sure enough, stains on the pants. Well, she couldn't sit next to the princess or we would have had to shut down the line and call custodial. The little girl was not making a scene, but had tears silently pouring down her face while Grandmother was getting an autograph for her. I suggested the girl stand next to the Princess and meet her. The girl's face softened. The princess then proceeded to fawn over her and chat with her and hug her and pose for photos (that were cut off at the waist to avoid embarassment). The little girl's face was a beacon of light at that point. She walked away beaming. Here's to you princess for not shying away.

awww, that was so sweet of the princess to do that.

Well, not counting a couple of CM's I already know as good friends...

In 1998 (I was 7 at the time), I noticed a couple of idiot teenagers pelting the model train set at Epcot with pennies, breaking a few of the mini figures and setting a couple of trains off course. Well, me attempting to be diplomatic about it didn't work out so well and I essentially got a barrage of choice words from the two. (They left after about 20 seconds or so.)

So while I basically held my tears in, a CM by the name of Bonnie approached me. She'd said she'd seen the whole thing, including them damaging the models and me trying to... well, "speak on behalf of Walt Disney World", in her words. So in apparent gratitude, she let me pick any type of candy from one of the stores in the German pavillion. (Would you believe it was the one with all the good German chocolate?) Mind you I settled on Haribo bears instead, but that incident is proof that it takes just one person to turn a kid's day from one of the worst moments of his life to one of the best.

Thanks, Bonnie. :D

P.S. Before anyone wonders why my parents would leave a 9-year-old unattended in Disney World... I distinctly remember wandering out of the gift shop toward the train set and leaving them. (What can I say? It had been my favourite Epcot attraction since '94!) Mom wondered 5 minutes later how on Earth I'd ended up back in the store with free candy in tow.

I just thought of one that happened during my first CP in 2005 and continued to my solo trip in Jan 2006. I fell in love with the Sword in the Stone show that used to take place in Fantasyland. I saw it so much I became friendly with Merlin. I always stood in the same spot (against the planter on the right side, facing the stage) so after awhile I became the "official invisable rope holder". This continued through the end of my program. Anyway, when I went back down in Jan, the first thing (and then last thing) I had to do was see the show (I had no idea it would be my last times seeing it til the last show in Aug 2006). After seeing it for the last time on my trip, I told Merlin that I had to go back home the next day. He promptly gave me one of the medalions and the show pin, and told me they were to "remember him by". as if I could ever forget him! I still have them too. Thanks for the memories Merlin.:)

My first CM moment was on my first trip. We were in Italy and they had a band playing "Hot, Hot, Hot" and I was dancing about, this costumed CM came by and danced with me and another child guest. Which was awesome.

My major magical moment with a CM though was actually with an animator in Epcot

It was 1999 and I was 12 and had recently decided I wanted to go into animation when I grew up and had been working hard on my art prior to the trip. Plus I'd been on the Disney animaton lessons at Disney Quest.

Early evening me and my family went into the Disney art store just past spaceship earth. They have a bit where an artist or animator doodles sketches (which they sell on later). This one guy was doing a drawing of Winnie the Pooh and I mentioned I could draw or something. The guy looked at me and asked me to show him, he got out the seat and swapped with me and I did a guidelines drawing of Mickey. There was a bit of a crowd at the time and I remember the audience cooing and saying "wow shes good!" and the artist said it was a very nice picture and he'd trade with me. So I got his picture of pooh!

The same trip I'ld been talking animatedly with a CM in Innoventions, who spoke to my parents afterwards commenting on how eager I was and how much I knew for my age animaton wise. I believe details were swapped and just after the holiday my dad got contact from disney for a art contest they were inviting select individuals around the world on. I came about 6th place and won about 8 Park Hoppers good for life from it. Though we used them for the next 2 holidays

Our past trip was the first time that we have had the chance to have any interactions with the Princesses (my DD of 19 months L-O-V-E-D being with them), and let me say that those ladies take their roles very seriously and are wonderful to all of the little girls and boys that they interact with!

Last Friday we went to see the Princesses in the Hall of Fame, and the little girl that was behind us was SOOOOO excited to see the Princesses that she couldn't contain herself and started flipping out. Cinderella walked right over to her and said that she was excited to see her too and asked if she could have a hug. You could see that it meant the world to this little girl that Cinderella wanted to give her a hug and meet her...it was awesome!!!!

They were all so gentle and fun with my little one. Belle spun around with her, Aurora got on the floor and played with her, and Cinderella tried her best but my lovely, even-tempered DD was still a little miffed that she didn't get the first hug :p. Aurora even remembered her the next day at the Norway Pavillion for lunch!

It was an amazing experience to take in. My whole family has a new appreciation for these wonderful women who have big (sometimes glass) slippers to fill, and they do so with the grace and understanding that you would expect a princess to have.

First CM I encountered at WDW circa 1973. I was very young but still remember that! First impressions truly are lasting impressions. Too many positive memories since to single out one. :)
