Beastly Kingdom

Thanks for the info, I hope it starts soon.

I've always thought the Beastly Kingdom was a great idea, but I hope it gets a better name. Also, does anybody else think that Animal Kingdom should get some more real animals before it focuses on fantasy? We have Africa and Asia, but what about the Arctic, the North American wilderness, etc. ?

My uncle is a carpenter, he works for different companies building custom pieces. Usually he's in Vegas working on pieces for different shows and casinos there, but he just found out that he will soon be working on some pieces for Disney! So he called us since we're kind of the family Disney nuts lol, and when I asked him what it was for he said it was a new kingdom. At first that confused me because come on, Disney can't be planning on building a new park. But then he said it was going to be with mythological creatures, so I got pretty excited and said it might be Beastly Kingdom, and next time we talked to him, yep that was it! So here's hoping for an announcement soon...

Ask your Uncle if he is doing mockup work for this new kingdom or is it final product work. If it is final product work, then it is most certainly not for a Beastly Kingdom. If it is mockup/prototype work... than it may be true.

"Location of Suitable Land

During the next 10 years, the District'’s development will be directed to those areas identified as suitable in the above analysis. The largest areas of suitable land are located west of Animal Kingdom, between World Drive and I-4 between Osceola Parkway and US 192, around Lake Mable, north of the Magnolia Golf Course, east of the Magic Kingdom parking lot, and west of Disney/ MGM Studios. Other areas identified as suitable are scattered throughout the District on sites of less than 100 acres. Figure 2-6, later in this chapter, shows the location of suitable land based on land use designation."

Note: the land west of the AK is not contiguous with the park. Its expansion areas are mostly south of Camp Minnie-Mickey and north of Asia.

Just curious...Where are you quoting this from?

Sorry, I should have stated that... It's from the Reedy Creek Improvement District 2008 Master Plan. On those maps, suitable expansion land is mostly marked as "Agriculture" or "Mixed Use" and possibly "Undeveloped" (or, of course, as "Suitable" on the Suitability Ratings map). You can clearly see the site for the 5th gate, the Western Beltway plot, the site across from the Disney-MGM Studios and the STOLport area, which the section I quoted describes.

If Disney was going to do something to combat harry potter now would be the time to start, they don't want to get left behind!

Plans are already set in motion for several changes to the parks to help combat Harry Potter (mind you, Disney is using the HP publicity as a way to get more guests to visit their parks, including the recent raise in prices- all part of the plan about which I am speaking). Each of the four parks (along with one of the water parks) will be recieving enhancements/additions/changes that will be able to be promoted after their completion. You all are familiar with the work going on at MGM Studios (soon to be Hollywood Studios)- all of it being part of the plan. Magic Kingdom's piece of the puzzle is the refurbished Space Mountain.

I can't currently disclose Animal Kingdom or Epcot's role in this equation, but I do know the plans for both. There is more going on at our resort than most realize, and the plans take from both old and new- shelved and recently drawn up. There is plenty about to change at WDW, and Disney's Hollywood Studios is the first to set this chain of events in place. I can say that the motion will be for the best, and that the changes to arrive will be both necesscary and welcome. Mind you also, that these changes won't take place over the course of a year. There is a schedule, and there is a budget for each project. The Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter won't be going anywhere (for at least 20 years, considering that Universal will renew both of their 5 year-optional contracts), so Disney will be competing throughout that time. Some of the projects will be here sooner than others, but the projects will be announced one after another.

I will say it one more time just to remind you that Disney's Hollywood Studios will be the leader of this transition. The park is getting Toy Story Mania, Pixar Place, Block Party Bash, updates for Playhouse Disney Live and High School Musical Pep Rally, a new show at the ABC Theater and another E-Ticket attraction. Quite alot to recieve in a short amount of time, correct? There is more, as these are only the projects that have either been confirmed by press releases, permits or official cast updates. Management has finally put forth the effort to fix the park that was most desperate for an update, but that isn't where it ends. Management is going to start analyzing each of the parks and will take the necesscary steps to fix them (only maintaining/updating the attractions that aren't broken), in the same manner as with Disney's Hollywood Studios. A new trend is getting ready to be set for our resort, and there is a clear example of how it is going to go... :animwink:

I don't mean to go off topic, but JII is part of Epcot's plan right?

As much as I would love to see BK, I think there is some things that need to be done to AK before it is considered. For one, the carnival theme in Dinoland USA needs to be fixed. I hate that. They should make it more of an actual place that Dinosaurs would live, or a place you can go that has attractions that takes you back to the Dino times(like Dinosaur of course).

The other thing that I think needs to be fixed/adressed is that there are a lot of "holes" in the park. What I mean by "holes" is that attractions are spread SO far appart that it feels like it takes forever to get from one attration to another. And although this adds to the beauty of Animal Kingdom, it takes away from the flow of the park to me. I think maybe a ride or two(it doesnt have to be e-tickets) added to Africa, Asia, and Dinoland would greatly make you feel like you accomplished something when you walked to mile to get from one end of the park to another :D. They could put a Lion King dark ride in Africa. And also a Splash Mountain type ride where you journey into where King Tut and all his possesions were burried and then to escape you go down the hill that is on the side of the pyramid(idk maybe people would think it would be weird to get wet on a pyramid ride, but you could be going into the Nile River). And for Asia you could put a Jungle Book dark ride and a Indiana Jones ride(like the one in DL) but it has to be like located to Asia.

So, yeah, there you go. Lol. Thats my 2 cents.

Wow, that sounds awesome! So DL isnt the only resort that is going to be geting all the attention in the upcoming years. Now I am actually excited about WDW again. :D.

While I understand your sentiment, I actually have come to find the distance between the attractions actually adds to DAK's enjoyment. I was always a run from attraction-to-attraction person. But, at DAK, you have much more of a journey to get there. And, with the design, there are tons of little areas to discover and explore in doing so. So, while the "holes" are different, I just recently discovered that they are central to the execution in the park IMHO. When it comes down to it, the themes of DAK are so well executed that you need the "journey" to detox your mind from the prior. It's the most realistic parks as far as themeing, so you need some transition room I find.

I think that we will eventually see beastly kingdom in the park some time with in 10-20 years at the latest. I mean we hear all these rumors of attraction that could possibly go in but not so much for AK attractions only an few since it opened 2 which were cut from the budget (beastly kingdom, and the excavator coaster for Dinoland.) along with the night time parade. I realize that other attractions must be in the works that haven't been leaked yet but still. With E:E doing so much for the park and with the Lost continent area of IOA being turned into harry potter attractions not based on movies would increase attendance even more. FOTL could be moved to Africa to help with the "flow problem" there.

I have always liked the fact that AK was slow paced, actually that is why I consider myself a fan of it. And I do like that fact that you have to take a "journey" to the next ride, but if the rides fit in perfectly in with the land why not have multiple rides there. Then you would take your journey to the next land of the park. It would still make it different from all the other parks and, as I said before, you wouldnt feel like you walked a mile for one attraction.

I personally REALLY want BK to come to AK. I've wanted it to come to AK since the day I read about it on Jim Hill. I didn't think it would ever be built but this thread plus Disney will need a major for IOA's HP has raised my hopes up big time. Now where it will be built good question. I think either replacing CMM and then moving FOLK to Africa or the HUGE space of cleared land between Asia and Rafiki (look at google earth to see what I'm talking about) but deep down I think Disney is saving that in their back pocket for down the road to maybe one day build Australia. If BK gets built and I pray that it does it will be the giggest thing to happen to WDW ever IMO. Here's to hoping that official construction starts within 2-3 years.

Weither it may be true or not, I would like to have BK come to AK. It would add another dimension to the park.

It is pretty easy to say they have plenty of room for it, the area near CMM is quite big. Though I did notice something on the newest Travel Channel Special of AK that hints of a possible new attraction.

At the end of the special when they were talking about plans for the future, they showed a quick CGI clip of the Lava monster from Japan's Journey to the Center of the Earth.

While JTTCOTE doesn't fit into BK, it could happen.

As much as I would love this to be true, it's most likely a misunderstanding or miscommunication.
Beastly Kingdom, if it were real, would be the largest in-park project in nearly 10 years. A project of this magnitude would be difficult to keep secret for very long. If they were at the point to hand out carpeting contracts, we should have been hearing some significant buzz about it, as well as seeing significant activity in the Camp Minnie-Mickey area - site surveys, ground preparation work, etc.

I really hope I am wrong - next to the Excavator, BK has always been my favorite canceled AK addition.

EDIT/Addition: It's true that WDW needs a major addition within the next few years, since a fifth gate is not on the horizon and Universal is likely to attract a lot of attention with their Potter land. But recently they have been building and refurbishing attractions at a rate that we could have only dreamed of just five years ago - it's hard for me to imagine that they'll add a major new land before "cashing in" on the recent and upcoming attractions with a period of relative quiet.

But it could be built in stages, right? So a couple of attractions here and there and could be a work in progress.

I agree - Dinoland needs to be rethemed. The carnival aspect does not work well. Disney needs to make you feel like your entering the "real" world of Dinosaurs (similar to what the Jurassic Park movies do). Adding the Excavator attraction that was cut do to the budget could help this land greatly and would be the first wooden roller coaster in WDW.

Your ideas for attractions are great. Lion King and Jungle Books dark rides have never been built at any of the parks before, and where they center on animals, they would be pefect fits for the parks. As for the water flume ride, the concept needs a little bit of tweaking, but overall the Egyptian theme is a nice touch. And for the record, water rides are always a welcome to guests visiting in the summer months.
