Balloon blowing away - What would you have done?

if you are staying on base.. go to you hotel lobby and ask them what to do.. show them that you have the string and the works, and that some one just made a mistake, but it wasn't your mistake.. meaning that you dropped it , rubbed on the grass, wall or what ever.. and could they help you out.. I would bet ,that by the time the day was over, that it would be replaced.

I would ask nicely.. I would say please, and thank you and all the very very nice stuff.. and if they do assist you get the name of the person who assisted you and make sure that you call into Disney Supreme HQ in Orlando and let them know just how kind and wonderful and special they made your families day.. how considerate and the whole nine yards.

I would bet if you are nice and ask nice and polite and whatnot, good things will happen for you..

I wish you well..

My balloon flew away on my first visit to the Magic Kingdom. I was I think 3 years old. It was tied around my wrist all day until time to leave. Someone untied it so we could get into the camper and it just slipped through my fingers. I stood, at the door of Dad's camper and watched it float away. That was almost 40 years ago..I still miss my balloon.

Kinda like the way Jack Sparrow felt when the rum was all gone. (Your Signature reminded me!):ROFLOL:

i think you handled it the proper way. let's face it: over a couple of weeks in disney world, we probably spend 15 bucks on a lot of stupid stuff. it seems like you brought up your daughter to be very level-headed. if it didn't ruin the day and your daughter didn't seem to mind, chalk it up as one of those 'eh it happens' things in life.

trust me, as a very, very nostalgic guy, i think your daughter is probably going to look back on her childhood and remember you were the type of dad who would spend $15 on a balloon and was willing to hike back to the magic kingdom for another had she wanted you to. that in itself is a victory.

Thanks for passing this along. Now I know to check that the balloons are secured to their string especially a fifteen dollar one. Despite keeping my kids out of the Disney stores and switching between counter service and table service to save money, I probably WOULD pay for a pretty balloon that caught my kid's eye even if it was fifteen dollars and I wouldn't say a word about it. I would keep the string and go back to MK the next day and ask for a replacement but I would not walk back to MK after a long day of walking that same day. It would make the injury of the loss seem deeper than it should be. I'd keep it casual and say as little as possible on the matter.

I will never forget my sister's obsession with the mickey head in the clear balloon - she begged my mother the whole two weeks we were in Florida for it and my Dad gave in - I think if she let it go (it must have cost a few dollars back in 1983) my parents would have freaked and if it had flown off the string my Dad and Mom would have gone back to get a new one! Everytime I see those balloons all I can think about is my sister and how happy she was to get the balloon she wanted!

You can say that again!

My daughter is 5 and very rational for her age... but she has a thing about balloons blowing away.... one escaped out the car window when she was smaller and I think it dramatized her LOL.....So , if I couldn't get her to wait until the next day for a new one, yes I would of trucked back in and nicely explained what happened so I could obtain a new $15.00 balloon. and yes the fact that it was $15.00 would of motivated me that much more. Oh and thanks for the heads up on the cost of these babies, I know I will be asked for one in Sept. :)

I would change things a bit, since transference of blame is always successful.

I think if it were me, I'd of just looked up at the balloon and said..."Well, it looks like since Grandpa (or any other deceased relative) couldn't come to Disneyworld with us, he wanted your balloon to celebrate the occasion!" Then I would have waved at the sky and said "Enjoy your balloon..you balloon stealing deceased relative. When I get to the afterlife, I'm gonna kick your balloon stealing butt.! Remember Billy, your balloon stealing deceased relative ruined this vacation and will pay for this big time when you show up in the afterlife."

I think you missed what really happened. While getting off the tram, Jimmy Thicke bumped into your daughters balloon, knocking it loose from the weights. If you would have seen this you might have gotten a free dinner out of him.

dramatized......I love it. I hope you picked this word on purpose, because it's so fitting. I shall be adding it to my vocabulary!

My personal fave is tra-motional. A co-worker of mine coined the phrase, it's a combination of tramautic and emotional.
