Bad day at the Germany pravilion

closing an attraction or resturant for unforseen circumstances during park hours means something tragic has happened

...or maybe something just broke and maintenance needs an extended period of time to repair it or find a part. We often hear the phrase "The parts are on order" out there.

My wife and I ate at the Biergarten on Tuesday night. Our last day for our vacation was on Thursday. Since our flight was late in the evening, we decided to hang out at EPCOT for the day. Being from Bethlehem, PA, I grew up with the German culture. I love polka, German food and beer. I always look for any opportunity to see a polka band.

We arrived at the German pavilion around 2:15 and I decided to go inside the Biergarten to see the band for one last time before heading home. The place was closed and the cast member at the check in stand stated that the Biergarten was experiencing some technical difficulties. I thought nothing of it and went about my merry way. I met up with wife in the Gobel shop and she was wondering why I wasn't watching the show. I told her there was a technical issue. I thought there might have been an issue with the AC, lighting, etc. Now it saddens me to know what really happened. My wife and I send our deepest sympathies to the family of the musician.

My family ate at the Biergarten today and asked about the death. The gentleman's name was George and he was the blonde/white-haired man with a slender build. He wore his hair sort of spiky. He had worked there for 27 years!!! (If he is who I think he is, I didn't think he looked old enough to have worked there 27 years!) His funeral was today (Monday) in a town about an hour away (no details of what town).

My family who frequents the Biergarten said that the mood was still good, but they could tell that everyone was a little less "joyous" especially the band. Obviously completely understandable. Anyone have any other details? Or a picture?

I'm almost starting to wonder about the validity of this whole thing. If this really did happen, it would seem we'd have a secondary source of verification on this by this point... And one would really think this would have been in the Slantinel too. Especially with a guest evacuation and shutting the place down for the rest of the day, as the story goes.

If this really did happen, I feel sorry for the family involved. But... I think I'm starting to believe I want to call "shenannigans".

Why yes I would think that it is all false to Just because my folks saw it (millercv) posting #43 on this thread saw it and even (AboveAverageJoe) posting #65 saw it was closed the next day because of time off for the band and then(BrookeIowa) Posting #66. I am sure this whole thing was trumped up by the three of us, being I have no Idea who these other people are!:hammer: I feel for the family of the deceased ,yes I said the deceased. My folks went the next day and saw the manager and asked how things were and He said it's closed, they asked about the Musician. The manager replied to my folks, their thoughts were right! If I had known that this thread would become a questioning of truth I would never of added it. I put it in because I felt it was news, even if it was depressing, being we all love Disney on here. My mother called me in tears within less then a half hour of it happening shook up and in tears. I would say that I am a huge disney nut and will be for life. I mean for no bad press. I work for a small weekly newspaper and I hate to put in the Police report some times because of the damage it does for someones reputation. I hate trash news:hurl:. I hope there are not too many that have disbelief in me and this! For I like to feel this board is for disney people to share the good the bad and the ugly.

This story is completely true. My dad actually came up to me the other day and said that his friend who worked at the Germany pavillion playing an instrument had passed. I never even knew my dad knew someone that worked at WDW. They played sheepshead (the card game) together online, not sure if they ever actually met in person, but they talked online a lot. I am at school now and will get more information later on his name and what instrument he played.

My thoughts are with his family.

Epcot just had it's 25 anniversary on October 1st and he worked there for 27 years.

Thanks for the rest of the info.

No harm done, and at this point, completely believe what you said.

I just thought it was weird that we didn't have a lot of people chiming in on the topic that would have had to have connection to it one way or the other... And these days around here, there are threads people start just to get a reaction out of people. Admittedly, I started to think that.

But since my last post, many others have chimed in with accounts.

My thoughts are with the family. But I gotta say... WHAT A WAY TO GO! At Disney, doing what you love. I can only hope for something similar.

I do not believe so. According to previous posts it was the bass player which is not in the picture.

Has anyone found any real evidence that this happened. I have searched the Sentinel and have found nothing.

Um, the guy on the left of the picture was playing bass. There are only 4 tuning keys on that guitar

like what somebody had a heart attack on tower of terror, but did not die.

That is not what I said.

I know of several specific instances where an attraction or show was shut down due to "unforseen circumstances" and had NOTHING to do with a person being injured or dying. Please do not ever assume that because an attraction or show is closed that it is because of a personal tragedy.

A case in point:

Two to three years ago at during a busy season, during the beginning of the third Indiana Jones show, we had a serious problem with the audio. The speakers emitted loud square wave signals. It turned out that maintenance had done work on the air conditioning the night before and forgot to do something to finish, as a result the amp room overheated burning up a lot of expensive equipment.

We were shut down the rest of the day trying to get stuff repaired and replaced, no one died or was hurt. Please never assume things like that. It is false logic. And it is morbid on top of that.

Now the case in Germany is different. There are eyewitness accounts of someone, and that is tragic and my sympathies are with the family.

But you can't make a general rule that because TOT is down due to unforseen circumstances that somebody died. It has been down many times due simply to mechanical or electrical failures. And case in point, since you brought it up, no one has ever died on the Tower of Tower or even after riding it. Please be careful of making suppositions on those kinds of things.
