Because Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was such a fantastic movie of course!
There are a few good pics swimming around google..
I liked the view so much better without the hat.
I would love to Know when they had an Omnibus driving around the studios like this...
And here's one where The Hat stands.....I find it oddly strange that The BAH sits right on top of the Largest Hidden Mickeys Nose...
I remember when they had Dick Tracy characters on the New York Street back when it was only accessible as part of the backlot tour.
Google map it. You can barely even make out the hidden Mickey anymore. A real shame.
Here's what it looked like before the Hat..
And After...The hat sits Right on Mickey's Nose...
I'm still trying to figure out how they thought this was going to be a Mega hit..
I actually think that was a low point of Madonna's career. Her film career was always rocky and questionable at best. Her being in "D___Tracy" was a publicity stunt by Disney and certainly not one of Madonna's proudest moments. At the time I suppose Madonna was at the peak of her fame. Also Warren Beatty had been a huge star and it also starred Al Pacino, all these things probably led most to expect great things from the movie. I remember buying a yellow Fedora at MGM that year, looking back it really wasn't the best look for me
Yes, but it was Universal Studios in Hollywood, where it is always in the best interest of the producer to film at the cheapest and most available studio. Universal and Disney are NOT competitors in the same sense in California. You have to remember the time frame as well. Film noir was very popular in the late 80s early 90s, with huge hits coming out based on the 30s and 40s.
Roger Rabbit was a hit beyond the studios dreams, and showed that this film style had mass appeal to a family audience.
In addition, the screenplay for Roger Rabbit was actually based of a novel called "Who Censored Roger Rabbit". But, instead of cartoon characters, the novel included cameos from comic strip characters...one of whom was...Dick Tracy.
The movie script had been floating around for around a decade, but it's not unthinkable for studio execs, coming off the success of Roger Rabbit, to think the film would have been a massive success, and in some ways it was. It did very well at the Box Office, and also won several academy awards.
In many ways, it was terrible...but I chalk that up to Beatty directing. Beatty, to me, was always overrated, and to put him in charge of his own show was a very bad idea.
But...<shrug> At the time it was a rage.
Funny tidbit...most of the filming was actually done at Universal, even though Touchstone was the studio and Buena Vista was the distributor...so, through proxy Disney it was a Disney property.
Today HS doesn't have a movie feeling for me . Would like to see other disney characters around, as well characters under disney's umbrella. Sometimes i tire of the same princess/pirate/fairy. Volt, wall-e and monsters inc come to mind. Maybe they are not a big hit like others, but a little exposure to them won't hurt.
omg!! Gargoyles, yes !! That will be cool. I remember marvel had a comic book about them. I wonder if they also have the same fate of the other marvel characters of no show in WDW.*cough*Gargoyles*cough*
