"Back in My Day"

Yet, involved you did get. This is propaganda. It enhances the smoke and mirror effects used. There are not and never have been actual cannonballs being fired, rubber or otherwise. Think of this from a logical standpoint. What do you think would be the liability to WDW if a cannon misfired and hit a customer with a rubber ball? The cannons make a sound, the water splashes, that is it.

The cannons make a sound, smoke is forced out the end of the barrel with a light flash...

Back in the day:

The parks were a joke compared to what they are now.

Jimmy Thick- There is a reason its called the past...

This coming from a guy who wears his jean shorts to the California Grill.

Joke is a bit harsh there Nancy ... the parks have evolved, some things for the better, others for the worse.

Marni's list sums it up for me the best.

Why wouldn't you be welcomed?
Your memories and opinions would be as valid as the next person's. Hell, I'm 51, I'm scraping to remember stuff from when I was your age and there!:hammer:

the cannons fired rubber balls in Pirates.. and the flew over your head and landed in the water..

Your kidding right? Lawsuits aside (From a guest getting tagged in the face by a projectile, which would have to either have a decent amount of mass, or be propelled violently to create a decent splash for the correct effect) I can see super ball's getting jammed into the ride mechanisim's causing a whole list of other issues.

The effect always has been an air effect that creates the canon ball splash, my parents rode it when it debuted in 73, they were in there 20's at the time.

I think you are sadly mistaken sir. :D

50 cents a day to park

Tickets for A-E rides

Does anyone remember when they put your picture on your ticket or entry card?

The welchs grape stand in Fantasyland

Spaceship earth when there weren't individual seats.

Seats for everyone on the monorail. I remember on our first trip the lady would go down the row and slam the doors to the monorail.

Being able to walk up to the Castle and get reservations for that day.

Booths that sold tickets and then sold film after the A-E tickets were changed.

Riding the monorail to Epcot to get a preview before Epcot opened.

Back in my day, Winnie the Pooh had a really big head with a "Hunny" pot on top.
Mr. Smee was little creepy. It was fun to interact with the villans.

Gullible isn't in the dictionary

gul·li·ble
adjective /ˈgələbəl/ : Easily persuaded to believe something; credulous

or ... whoever the poster is who believes cannon balls actually fired at you in POTC ... back in 'his' day.

Man the 60's must have been a great time. :D

Hey...no dissing Mr Smee. He was the first character I met and have have photos with him when I was 5, 7, 9, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, 21, 23, 24, 30, 33, 34 and 36...not an easy feat since he's sometimes tough to find.

It's funny to look at the pictures, it's almost like a flip book of me growing up (and aging gracefully) :lookaroun:animwink:

I remember Pooh with the Hunny pot on his head.

Also back in my day Snow White used to always come out with all 7 dwarves...and they were a bit creepy.

speaking of characters, back in my day the three little pigs and the big bad wolf were as commonly seen out in the parks as Winnie the Pooh.

WHen was this photo taken.. because OTHER people agree with me that the Troll was on the ceiling and the boats came out of the hole..
Maelstroms boats come out today as far as they did in 1988. I will look for some soft opening video.

The Trolls have never been on the ceiling. Here is an early 1988 installation photo:

This may be just me, but does it seem as if there are characters in the parks more often, but not a much of a variety. As previously noted the Big Bad Wolf and The Three Pigs used to be around a lot, many of the Villans were out and about. Mickey and Pooh are everywhere, but how about Captain Hook.

I actually have great affection for Mr. Smee. I just think currently he looks closest to the Mr. Smee we see in the Peter Pan movie.

I loved the cake. I wish I could have seen it in person. I also would have loved to see when Stitch trashed the castle. I thought that that was funny....until I saw the ride :l

Wasn't a huge fan of the cake. I thought it looked ugly back in 95/96 when I was still a kid and it still looks ugly now.
