"Back in My Day"

In my day, we walked uphill BOTH ways through the snow to ride Space Mountain!

I'm 24...

In my day, you could buy toy rifles and pull the orange cap off and make it look like a real gun (not this stupid blue and red-colored crap).
In my day, the CMs on the Great Movie Ride actually gave a darn.In my day, no one was really sure how the Animal Kingdom was going to be recieved.
In my day, Tower of Terror had Rod Serling come on at the END screen to wrap up the post-show!! (Not many people remember this!)
In my day, I was picked to ride on a giant bee in front of a blue screen on the Backlot Tour!!
In my day, attractions were more than just putting people in front of a screen and saying "This is real!"
In my day, no one wanted to see Monty Python at Epcot. :zipit:

This is my BIGGEST issue with Disney......When I was doing my last College Program, I met a girl who worked on the Great Movie Ride and would always try to switch when she pulled Tour Guide.....! Here is hoping that I get to work at the GMR this time around and hope she still works there...I would switch with her EVERY time!

double post  Oh well, back in my day, there were topiaries outside the Contemporary and they weren't even in the shape of Disney characters!

Isn't that from Jungle Book? :)

back in my day, we took mid-day breaks to go swimming and then worried the black light ink from getting our hand stamped would wash off and we couldn't be able to get back in the Magic Kingdom (but we always did).

It was King Louie - he followed you from the Jungle Cruise with his super ball cannon and was shooting at you.

As for the Maelstrom boat going outside the building, hanging over the rocks, yes of course. Here is photo proof:

WHen was this photo taken.. because OTHER people agree with me that the Troll was on the ceiling and the boats came out of the hole..

so just because YOU WEREN"T THERE.. it doesn't mean it didn't happen..

just like the midday fireworks and sky show over the lagoon in Epcot.. with those hang glider type things with go karts below them..

I suppose, that didn't happen either..

but for kicks and giggles. tell us the date of the photograph in your post..

Not sure if anyone mentioned but but I have a partial memory from "my day" that I would appreciate if someone confirmed...Our first night at Disney we would go to a shopping place with little thatched huts that I believe was called "Buena Vista Village" and it may have been in the spot that Downtown Disney is now.

Also, in my day there was only Magic Kingdom, no other parks and when Epcot opened it was E.P.C.O.T. and everyone know what the letters stood for.

Also, the best souvenir were the beautiful books from the park that had amazing photos and informative write ups on every attraction in the park.

In my day the characters just wandered around the parks they weren't at special meet and greet places where you had to line up.

and one if the most fun days at Disney was when you went to River Country!

Doesn't the photo support your recollection of the boat coming out of a hole? What are you yelling at me for?

He loves to say these things. He is just waiting on somebody to debate him. We have had these discussions with him many times. He also says Jungle Book Characters were on the Jungle Cruise too. And that an earthquake shook the Temple and it caused falling rocks. And Pirates had actually cannon balls that came out of the cannons. Don't take it personally. You added to the discussion.

Memories and minds fade over time. :)

Oh, I know. I thought if he was going to huff up at me, it would be at the suggestion in my earlier post that King Louie chased after him from Jungle Cruise to Pirates with super balls, and not over my posting a photo which actually supports his memory of the Maelstrom ride.

Yes, it was Lake Buena Vista Village. And then it became Walt Disney World Village. And then Disney Village Marketplace. I don't remember the thatched huts; they seemed more like cedar shingle roofs to me, though.

Back in my day...

You didn't have to wait 3 hours for a 5 minute ride.
You can actually have the benefit of camping at the wilderness with River Country next to you.
You can actually go on Discovery Island and enjoy the birds and its habitat.
You didn't have to pay a price of a full meal just for parking.

Back in my day: (which was around 93, 94, 95)

we didn't need breaks in the early afternoon to swim in the hotel pool. We went hardcore all day and then swam after we got to the hotel late at night.
We didn't get tired, we were like kids on crack because we were at WDW!

I guess that's all for now.

I love this line...I remember never really sleeping as a kid....Disney was a drug!!! Thanks for this!

May have been ceder shingles...obviously I'm thinking way back here. I also remember staying at the Poly when it was one of the only options so I might be mixing up the decor in my mind

I am not yelling, but you have yet to post what year that photo was..

at least three other posters agree with me instead of you..

why not tell us all, when the photo was taken. instead of hiding behind some false pretenses.. like that this photo was taken the year that Epcot was opened.

I find it amazing that people who weren't born, know little of how things were , but can argue for days, saying "this is the way it is.." well boys and girls, that may have been how it is today or for the past 2, 3, 5, 10, years. but not the way it was when the park opened.

no one argued about commincore east and west, but they don't have that name.. but they did. or the trees.. and yet obviously we have seen how the trees were cut back over the years.

rides change. they become shorter or longer. or removed. or revamped.

since I have been going to Disney world, how many Presidents were added to the Hall of Presidents.. ? Heck.. who would have guessed that Ronald Reagan, who I believe was in the opening cerimonies of Disney land, would become President. things change.

and just because YOU weren't there, or cannot remember these facts, does not mean it did not happen.

for one. dealing with King Louie.. a women poster actually asked the question in a thread.. I just happen to chirp in. but I did not even start the thread in question .

again. I have never seen pirates at disney land, but My father said it was far superior to the Disney world ride. when I ride a ride I am extremely observant.. plus there was a time were we were stuck for a minute in the cannon area.. I could take the time to be ultra observant. . to see these balls in flight. now its not like that today.. but years ago it was as I stated.

and again the CM running the ride, stated that was the most asked question that he received.

so take your shots at me, but I have been going to Orlando before the park opened. 1971 I was 14 years old. I wasn't 4, or 6, or 9.. I was 14 going on 15.

I remember a ton of stuff. sorry if you were there.. I was.

That boat definitely came out further from the cave when it first opened. I don't even know why people are arguing about it.

I think what MKCP_1985 is trying to tell you is that he AGREES with you and posted a picture for you to prove your point that...yes...the boat did come further out of the hole.

I remember that, too btw.
