YEAH BECAUSE POSTING AN ACTUAL SNIP IT FROM BOX OFFICE MOJO THE LEADERS IN KNOWING BOX OFFICE NUMBERS IS "TROLLING". YEAH, OK PAL. MARVEL IS VERY MUCH IN TROUBLE BECAUSE SHANG-CHI AND ETERNALS ARE GOING TO BOMB HARD AND THIS MOVIE IS NOT DOING SO GOOD COMPARED TO OTHER MARVEL MOVIES. ITS VERY MUCH ON THE LOW END OF THE MARVEL SPECTRUM
Wrong.

do we know how much black widow made on D+ so far?
In a few weeks, the minutes watched as tracked by Nielsen will be published. Divide by length of movie and guesstimate re-watches and you get your D+ haul.

Yup a 90 million dollar opening is horrible. I mean how will marvel keep going forward. They should just close the studio down.

Well we plan to add to that $90 million BO! Going to see it tomorrow. The first movie I will see in a theater in over a year! Crazy, but excited to be going back to the movies!

possible 90 mil and for a marvel movie that is not horrible but on the very low end compared to the others as the article states inside it which I quoted above but nice try.

So what? Even if it only makes $90M and is on the lower end of the MCU openings, again so what? That doesn't prove anything. Its not some sort of trend that shows the MCU is about to implode because of some type of fatigue. And it surely doesn't show anything about the future BO of Shang-Chi and Eternals. And just an FYI just because you (or the circle of people you know) don't personally want to see both those movies doesn't mean the rest of the public feels the same way.

What it would shows is that 1. Not all theaters are back to 100% capacity, 2. Not everyone was ready to go back to theaters, and 3. Some people maybe waiting a week or two before they see it.

But let's not start counting the chickens before they're hatched. Lets see what the final weekend BO will be.

Plus the BO is not the only piece of this, you still have to look at D+ numbers. If those numbers are high then it shows that a large percentage decided to stay home (or ordered after watching in theaters) and (re)watch it there. So add that into the numbers and you could be looking at a high opening weekend.

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
One movie in a 24 movie franchise does not a trend make.
During a pandemic when many theaters are at reduced capacity and where most are only using a portion of their screens for many fewer hours a day than previously due to staffing issues, no less.

My AMC has ONE BW matinee per day. Endgame had roughly 15. That’s not because they don’t believe in the movie it’s because they literally don’t have the staff to open the theater before 4:30.

Clearly it means that people don’t want to work at movie theaters because they’re sick of selling tickets to Marvel movies.

I picked this up yesterday and was amazed to see the pixelation on this guidemap. They used a low resolution photo for the map cover. Either no one noticed, or no one cared, but it seems like they're really half-assing Avengers campus.

So, the final numbers are 80 million in the US and 79 million overseas. Plus for the first time Disney has released premier access numbers. 2 million buys for a total of 60 million. So a total of 219 million opening weekend. I'd say the mcu is doing just fine.

I'm pretty shocked it made so much money on Disney+. I guess either there are people still out there that's still afraid to go to the theater or simply like the convenience of seeing it at home. Or probably both, since I do think a lot of people have just gotten use to watching these big movies just show up at home for the last year. I actually thought maybe Disney was shooting themselves in the foot having it both premiere in the theater and on Disney+ but that proved to be totally wrong. $160 million opening weekend in America is nothing to sneeze at and the BO would've been easily much more higher if people didn't have a second option. And the thing about Disney+ is every dollar goes to them, but my guess is they will still make tons more money in the theater now with the worldwide gross the first weekend.

That's the thing about Disney, sometimes they're down but they are never out. This company always bounces no matter what the crisis is at the time.

Plus it's cheaper for families to spend 30. Going to the movies with a few kids can get pricey.

It will be interesting to see how the Disney+ sales impact performance after opening weekend. They may be trading multiple theatrical tickets per family and repeat viewings in theaters for a one time fee. Could this model front load blockbuster movies even further? If the subsequent weekend drop offs are steeper than usual, then I wouldn't necessarily be celebrating just yet.

You're telling me! That's certainly true, especially if you're seeing movies in California when the average ticket price is around $15. So yeah you definitely save more as a family. People complain about the $30 price but yeah it's worth it if you REALLY want to see a big movie when it opens and have a big family.

Plus I didn't know until a few days ago those Disney+ premieres let you keep watching the movie forever from that point on as long as you keep D+. I thought it was more of a rental thing like most digital sites where you can only watch it for a few days. But the fact it lets you keep it is another huge advantage over seeing it in a theater. HBO Max is an amazing deal because you get every new release for absolutely free but you only have a month to watch it before they're gone again.
