Have you taught 1-8 graders?
I have, and I was shocked at how many of them were somewhat familiar with the prequel films (The last one was released while I was teaching) but many, if not most of these kids have never seen the original movies, and weren't particularly interested in doing so.

I would imagine that most people posting in this thread are in their 20s and 30s and have probably seen all the Star Wars movies, but what we have to keep in mind is that unless they were brought up in a family of sci-fi nerds, most actual children today don't have a lot of familiarity with the old Star Wars movies, and if they have, it's probably because of "Family Guy."

Have you been in a Toys R Us lately?

True and I never said I wouldn't go on the ride if it's there but I hardly think one movie requires a land, especially a movie that as far as we can tell may have no lasting power after it's initial release.
again cars land is huge success not because of the movie but because it was well executed

But it was because of the movie and the fairly well recieved sequal and the transitional aspects between adult and child enjoyment. I don't know if they'll get that with Avatar which my mother described as a Smurf sermon on the environment.

the two movies combined for a third of avatars gross
as far as your moms description of the movie i get it its a liberal environment movie...but could be turned into a great themed land

This doesn't mean it will make for a good themed land. Build a ride. It does not have enough substance, staying power, fan base or diversity for a land.
nope but the environment (biolumiesence, floating mountains etc) could make an incredible land... you also forgot IMHO at the end of your post

highest grossing film of all time
highest sales of blue ray of all time i would say it has a following
anyway we could go on for hours thanks for the discussion

People plan visits around Potter, and if a star wars land came about people would probably do the same with that, nobody is going to plan a visit around Avatar, unlike what is being said.

I'm sure there are a few diehards out there, Attendance would probably keep the park ahead of DHS but below the new and improved UNI parks. (It will be 2018 at the earliest for this to open so think about all UNI would have done in that time.

Many people can't shake off this feeling that despite making zillions, Avatar didn't really contribute anything to pop culture and it's just sort of astounding it even made so much. Well, then again, I remember paying like $15 or something to see in in IMAX. I think a lot of people did that as well. Actually, it's starting to make sense. I don't even really remember any of the characters from Avatar.

Meanwhile, Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Lando, the robots, Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Jabba etc. (hell, the sound of TIE Fighters) are all ridiculously memorable and beloved. Plus, they're actually owned by Disney now. I remember a lot of people being turned off to Disney using Avatar when they had so many films of their own to turn into theme park attractions. Indeed, where is the Cave of Wonders with an enormous magic carpet ride? Not to mention, it felt a lot like a crappy response to losing Harry Potter to Universal. Okay, so it's the biggest box office hit of all time (adjusted for inflation, it doesn't even make the top 10)...but really, Avatar??

I'd rather see a Avatar:The Last Airbender land then Avatarland. (Not that LOK stuff but the original.)
