I'm pretty sure the expansion would be all of Echo Lake rather than Streets of America

Nope. The other reason they will go to Streets of America is because.....

1. SoA has no real purpose. New York street was there from the beginning simply as a showpiece for the Backlot Tour. "Oh, look we're in New York now! Actually that's just a backdrop made to look like New York!"
I have no idea WHY they tacked on San Francisco to it. I guess they just wanted to block off the old Backlot Tour tram road. It just exists for no other reason to exist.

2. SoA is a hard-to-navigate mess. The New York skyline just out there in the middle of it all is a giant stumbling block for foot traffic. If you are walking to Lights Motors Action from Commissary Lane, you and everyone else going in the same direction wind up being squeezed down into about a 10' across pathway. In order to avoid that, one has to walk an extra distance along Commissary to Star Tours then make two turns or else you wind up at MuppetVision.

3. New York Street was never meant for foot traffic to begin with, and it's definitely not wheelchair or stroller friendly. I almost pitched my grandfather to the ground with all of the crags and holes in the pavement.

4. Star Wars already has a history of using SoE as its overflow, especially during Star Wars Weekends. One year, I remember you could meet and greet Boba Fett and Zam Wessel right next to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Don't get me wrong, I LIKE New York Street. But unless they can actually do something with it (aka. buy out Universal and get Iron Man, Cap, and SHIELD there) then they need to go a head and dismantle it in favor of Star Wars.

You're right. Most people will have switched to blu-ray by then.

Maybe not. Avatar really was kind of a dud when it came to storytelling.

But how much space is really available on New York street? It is mainly just facades in front of other attractions. For example behind the Star Tours side is Muppet 3D.

And also an empty show building next to Muppet Vision, Mama Melrose Lackluster Ristorante, a year round Christmas store, and Pizza Planet (that should be moved over to Pixar Place).

...but according to Stoklassa, storytelling doesn't matter as much when it comes to theme parks, so as to our conversation the point is moot anyway.
Warning: Naughty language.[/quo
No I didn't. There's a reason it's derisively known as "Dances With Aliens".
theres a lot of movies with similar themes
dances with wolves

The thing is...its characters are too boring and its story is too flimsy to warrant building a theme park area around. That's the same reason Pocahontas is relegated to meet and greets at Camp Minnie-Mickey. Pocahontas remains one of the most boring Disney animated films ever produced.

Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Star Wars (the original trilogy...not so much the prequels), Marvel Superheroes, Jurassic Park all can and do pull it off. Avatar cannot and most likely will fail, then be converted to Beastly Kingdom Redux once everyone loses interest.

But story and characters aren't really needed to make an Avatar attraction work. The main attraction of Avatar as a movie was the incredible visuals and the environment that was created which could be the focus of any attractions built. Dinosaur (when everything is working) is a great attraction, but it's story and characters aren't anything more exiciting then those in Avatar.

But Dinosaur wasn't built as "Dinosaur". It was built at Countdown to Extinction, then got a downgrade (made less intense) when they decided to make it a movie tie-in.

I should clarify that by story and characters I meant the story and characters that are in the ride not the ones from the movie since there really isn't a strong link between the movie and the ride. My point is that you don't need strong story or characters to create great theme park ride.

Did it?
I know they changed the signage and sculpture out front, as well as gave it a moronically generic name, but my understanding is that any "downgrade" to Countdown to Extinction has been the result of its having to run for a decade and a half without ever getting to shut down for any sort of meaningful refurbishment. When stuff breaks in there, it just has to stay broken. After all, closing that ride basically means closing 1/4 of the park.
