AVATAR land - the specifics

Thanks. So is it virtual reality of not then? The woman in the video called it a VR experience so that's why I'm asking.
No VR in what we think of it in today's VR helmet world. However I would pace the experience as close to VR as possible. The glasses are designed to control your experience so that you only experience the "virtual world" around you, not the physical. In sync, with the moving screens, it will feel more like an individual experience than Soarin ever will.

As for Navi the journey behind in the queue in what I would call the Parks most transitional experience created. Journeying through the jungle towards your raft is akin to exploring an underground cave for 45 minutes that leads to an underground waterfall. While not preference, I would say without a doubt this is the most seamless queue to ride Disney has ever done! The Shaman will be your guide from the beginning to the end. Yes it could have been longer but, from what I've been told, the entire experience is what this attraction aims for!

FoP will not be as Seamless but, unlike Navi, the ride portion is the climax.

Sounds like AR more than VR. Otherwise, no need for the screens.
Thanks for the river queue description BTW. Sounds like it won't feel like a ride, but a natural extension of the environment.

Are they planning on opening early or something? We didn't see this level of build up to New Fantasyland so far out from its opening date.

Look at the video around the 3:13 mark. The pathway looks very slim. Or is part of a queue? I hope thats part of a queue, otherwise it will be very congested

I'm not sure to be honest, looks a bit like a bridge? Perhaps the camera angle is deceptive though, filmed from a distance away and low down?

Based on that rock work in the back (the whiteish peak and the tanish mass to the left), it looks like it could be in the area of approach to FOP when compared to some of the latest aerials. Hopefully it's a one way path because it doesn't look like you could do more than single file two ways. Maybe the beginnings of the queue.

....only to themselves though:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
There will be a kiosk near the entrance selling these babies so that nobody will recognize the people who said they would never set foot in Avatarland.

This is when they want and/or when their research shows them that people book their trips for summer.

Since they have shown more and more photos of the Link-Chairs, I can clear up some more questions.

- The seating position and restraint system is almost the exactly the same (at least the same concept) as the Pony Express roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm.

- You grab on handlebars and slide forward on your seat against a chest pad, then a back restraint comes out from behind and snugs you in your seat and then kneepins extend out below your knees and basically rest on your calves. and them the operators make sure everything is secure and then you are good to go.

I just read the Robert Niles article on Pandora. I found this passage about interactivity interesting:

"Disney hasn't announced it yet, but we've heard from multiple insiders that the land will feature interactive merchandise that will allow visitors to engage as more active participants in the land, rather than just tourists passing through. The obvious reference here is the interactive wands available at Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but insiders promise that Avatar's interactive merchandise will be even more technically impressive."

So will you be able to buy some type of item and interact with the plants or will you just be able to use your magic-band. Any insiders care to comment on this? @marni1971, @Magic Feather?

Here is a link to the full article. He also thinks there is a walk-through attraction, but I am betting it is just the land itself.

Hi everyone! First time poster, longtime lurker. Thanks for all of the awesome speculation and details. I'm so excited for this land to open! I had a question about FOP - does anyone think/know if the "bike-like" RV's will have the platform underneath them when it extends to the screen? Or will it be more of an extended arm-like design? I know we don't have many details yet but wasn't sure if anyone was familiar with the ride system. Thank you! :)

Welcome to the boards, while it is a similar concept as Soarin' the ride system is nothing like Soarin'. You won't extend out into the screen because the screen is all around you, you won't be able to see the edges of the screen anywhere, the screen is that big from the floor to the roof and side to side

Joe Rohde said something about encountering animals around the park. Perhaps they are interactive experiences like this.
Not surprising, the Harry Potter wands are a lot of fun.

Sure, wands work for Harry Potter, but what would you buy to activate the Pandora spots?
Some type of Navi staff? A magic feather? A dreamcatcher? I just can't image what would be a good fit.

Maybe we can't imagine. But I'm sure others working on this project can. :)

I was going to say the same thing.

Folks on this board have a long history of saying "well, how are they going to do that?" or
"they should have done this". As a creative professional, all I can say is, well, you think about it and talk
about it, and research it, and try it, and scrap it, and think about it again, and do it some more,
and refine it, and plus it, and build it, doing the very best you can with the most passion you can muster,
and then . . . watch folks second guess and bash your years of work who weren't there. It's super fun.

Better to have your work analyzed and proven the best outcome... than have it praised blindly. Because without critique (even from yourself or within) the work will eventually suffer and you will be surpassed.

The problem on these threads is some people can't understand why someone would be interested in the creative side of things rather than just the consumption of it. So if you are doing anything except consuming it as it was intended... their defenses kick in
