DAK AVATAR land - the specifics

Bit late to the party so probably already been said - but it looks like the Navi River Journey doesn't require lap bars. Do I remember someone saying a while back that it featured a small drop or did I dream that?

If so, it must be a pretty small drop, à la Pirates?

Even Splash doesn't need lap bars. They're just to not let you exit the vehicle mid-ride.
Interesting, I do remember riding Splash without lap bars but I'd just assumed that modern safety legislation made lap bars nonnegotiable for rides with larger drops. Didn't realise it was just to keep you from wandering off!

How do they choose people to do that promotional stuff? Is it friends of people at Disney? Or do they choose random guests who are walking by?

I don't think the actors were too bad, though I think the directing could use some work, or maybe we weren't intended to see the whole thing in sequence.

I just want to know how to get in on it for Star Wars Land. ;)

I hate to say it, but it's unbelievable how the bad actors were for that.
I agree, the guests were looking lifeless in that promo. The director must have been like -

These promo images are showing us exactly the same thing that every other promo showed. They tell us one of two things.
Either a) They are only showing a tiny bit of Pandora because they don't want to show too much, or b) They are only showing us a tiny bit because Pandora is all pretty much the same thing and overall is pretty boring.

If it is anything like Avatar the movie then once you get past how pretty it is, the substance of it will be very lacking and you won't want to make too many repeat visits. I think this statement is the most accurate.

more like it doesn't exist and using LEDs to light things up.

Well, I believe there will be pathways that glow when you step on them. That's certainly something to show off.

There are also projectors aimed at the floating mountains. What for, I don't know, they've yet to show us.

Of course it's not actual bioluminescence, but it will still look great, and the nighttime atmosphere is still supposed to be a major draw. They are clearly holding back by their own choosing, not because there's nothing to show.

Didn't they used to have paving stones that sparkled when you stepped on them in the court between the two Innovations?

I'm cynical about this project, but I always assumed it would be beautiful at night... but I'm starting to wonder...

At least it will look better at night.

Having three rides was in a (much) earlier concept and was not approved, therefore it was not cut, merely opted out of. Same goes for the boat ride, in which (believe it or not) scenes were added, since it was originally about a 2.5 minute romp (albeit with more LM figures). The final product may put a bit of style over substance, but the substance is still present, moreso than Diagon or NFL (the land and league).
While this might have been fan blue-sky speculation, but wasn't one of the original pitched rides a suspended flying coaster through the floating mountains? If so, I'm glad they opted out of that since the coaster track would have destroyed the themeing.

I'm fine w/ 2 rides, but I do think they needed a third attraction. From what I've seen and heard about Pandora, the focus of this land is on the Na'vi and their culture and not the native Pandoran fauna. I think this is a mistake in a theme park devoted to animals, especially since the Na'vi were the least interesting part of Avatar for me.

I think they should have built an equivalent to the JP Discovery Center and have a mock research/rehab center where we could learn about the Xenobiology of the wildlife and have some close interactions. The impression I get about the 2 rides is they only will explore the wildlife of Pandora on a cursory level.

It wasn't a suspended coaster, but a unique coaster nonetheless. I think a patent for it wentnthrough a long (long) time ago.

I hope you are correct. I could understand holding a few things back, but it seems like each promo is exactly the same, just from a different angle.
The other thing to consider is that perhaps other areas, (such as the attraction queues) are not complete yet and cant be filmed. I would not be shocked to learnt that they are behind schedule or that the deflector shield will not be fully operational when your friends arrive.....
