I'm sure they considered that before building it.I still wonder how they will hold that thing down.
Hurricane winds arent exactly "nice" to structures like that.
Must be one hella big concrete block base under the ground!I'm sure they considered that before building it.
its called a FOUNDATIONMust be one hella big concrete block base under the ground!
Reminds me of the "fragile" BAH. It had a very strong steel insides..
So, I am currently listening to @lentesta and Jim Hill's Disney Dish podcast and they were speaking about Pandora: The Land of Avatar. The reason I post this is because there was some discussion made concerning the boat ride. Jim stated that the boat ride is going to be unlike anything Disney has ever done before. He said imagine Disneyland's Blue Bayou but with 200 foot tall ceilings (I believe he meant 20 foot though), and as you ride on the boat there is something 15 to 20 feet off stalking you. He described it as "story-telling on an epic and grand scale", coupled with the floating mountains outside designed by Zholt of Radiator Springs Racers fame.
I just really hope it actually looks like that in the end. This is consistent with the concept art....
seconding this.I just really hope it actually looks like that in the end.

Go look at some of the early aerial photos during the site prep.its called a FOUNDATION
If you're asking if I were to speak about a hypothetical boat ride that would go into any park in Anytown, FL, I'd say it'd be pretty improbable to do 200ft ceilings.hey @articos any thoughts to the hyperbole by Jim hill about the boat ride having 200 ft ceilings....
I still have no idea why you guys are mentioning "its a foundation" "go look the aerial photos".Go look at some of the early aerial photos during the site prep.
I realize. Just saying if you or anyone wants to see what went in, some of the early aerials show the massive amount of concrete and infrastructure that is underneath the dirt.I still have no idea why you guys are mentioning "its a foundation" "go look the aerial photos".
I was commenting. not asking.
And that has been pulled off numerous times without 200 ft ceilings...If you're asking if I were to speak about a hypothetical boat ride that would go into any park in Anytown, FL, I'd say it'd be pretty improbable to do 200ft ceilings.
That said, the released concept art gives a good idea of what the theoretical, still unannounced boat ride would feel like. I think Jim is probably just referring to the feeling of space: an open dark sky above you and a large, open outdoor atmosphere around you, while being inside a show building.
I know you didn't ask me, but 200 foot ceilings mean a building that is larger than 200 feet (as there needs to be support structure around it and above it). That means a flashing red FAA mandated light.hey @articos any thoughts to the hyperbole by Jim hill about the boat ride having 200 ft ceilings....
If anyone wants to see the most up-to-date photos of the Avatar construction as seen from the ground, the damouse website has 2 photos of the floating mountain and something else (still don't know what this is), as well as a 30 second drive by of the simulator building. All I can say is pretty much everything you can see with this addition is massive. If you took each I beam they are using for this expansion and placed them end-to-end, I wonder how long it would be?
