Photo update as of Friday, June 19. From the Rainforest Café rear entrance....some significant additions to the steel structures.

In addition to the "floating mountain" on the right, a smaller structure on top of the building's flat roof has appeared.

Not really exciting, but for those interested.....here is a view from the old walkway to Camp Minnie Mickey, with the construction wall across the walkway, and the back of the Pizzafari building on the right. The restaurant has turned this area into outdoor dining, or a general rest area. A good amount of trees and vegetation has been removed around the old walkway, but a tree line still separates the view to Avatarland.

hey @articos those steel pieces sticking out.....does this mean they are somewhat close to actually beginning to put the rockwork in place?

Right. Lots of rebar cages yet to be fabricated and painstakingly installed. Then wire mesh. Then plaster.

I don't predict we'll see the artists until the structural steel is complete, which will still be a while. This one is a very complicated puzzle to assemble.
I can't wait to see a picture of the rebar cages being placed on the structure to give us an idea of how big this is going to be.

As someone who is not familiar with this type of construction project, what is the rock work material comprised of? And is it prefabbed in sections and then put in place?

Also, I will be there in 3 weeks. So, yes, there will be pics.

The wireframe rebar that comprises the general shape of the rock work is probably going to be done the same as the Tree of Life. It will be manufactured by machines that are computer controlled to bend the metal in the exact spots needed and then weld it all together. All of these pieces will then be tagged and shipped to be put together as a puzzle in Avatarland. Once the wireframe is done then they will start the stucco and detail work.

Here is an example of how it's done. This is Universal Studios Hollywood Hogsmeade

This is a good look at how it goes from steel structure to mesh to plaster. Amazing it looks like rocks but its all hollow. There are also some really cool pics out there of the rock work on the new Kong attraction at USO. I'll try to find them this week. Such a team effort from the designers/engineers to all the different construction trades that come together to make all this come alive and look so real and immersive when finished.

Edit: Here is more pics from above.
