Can Disney keep a secret? It would be pretty cool if there are extra attractions tied to this project, attractions that haven't been spoiled before the groundbreaking...when was the last time that happened?
Did you say..... another three years??
Ironically, the last big secret they kept was signing the Avatar deal.
did some of us see the Lucas or Marvel acquisition coming?
And one of the rides sucks right? Flying tires?
Just saying that IF the simulator is as mind blowing as we hope and the boat ride does look promising... The boat ride definitely has more potential than the Mater ride and the Not So Flying Tires. The renderings of the environment look incredible. This has the potential as an absolutely solid addition and people are acting like TDO is putting up circus tents again.
We all get that AK needs more rides. Two probably isn't enough. But this goes a long way to making the park a big time draw.
Just curious.....there seems to be some cynicism that TDO on this forum that the project won't knock our socks off. So my question for you all is...What will this attraction need be to make us happy?
I think the disappointment also comes from the fact we're getting a screen based E-ticket. It's always going to be better when an attraction physically moves and takes you somewhere rather than simulates you going somewhere. I think if Disney announces the remake of Hollywood Studios with Star Wars land it will definitely lessen the sting of Avatar and people will be more akin to give it a chance.

Some people won't be happy unless the ride actually transports them to the planet of Pandora.

I would disagree with this, to me screens don't automatically make a ride bad. There are certain things that can only be achieved with screens. High speed movement though a very detailed environment is hard to achieve without screens. I do agree that if the Avatar ride is just a Soarin clone it will be a disappointment, but if it's 3D and has more vehicle movement the Soarin, I think it will be a win.
A real, genuine, classic-Disney E-Ticket that the entire family can ride. Soarin' over Pandora in 3D isn't it.Just curious.....there seems to be some cynicism that TDO on this forum that the project won't knock our socks off. NOOOOOOOOOO, DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS!!To be clear I wasn't referring to the cynicism to be critical. I too like feeling like I am on an adventure.
I hope they hide blue aliens in the trees that look like they are spying on me as I walk through. That way I feel like I am inserting my humanness in an alien environment. I want lots of water. How about an exhibit with real life organisms that glow. I'll never forget sailing to Bimini and watching the boat carve through the bioluminescent microbes in the water. I know there are some worms that glow. I want to be struck with wonder.
What would they serve at a restaurant in Pandora? Are they planning on a table service restaurant? How do you design this restaurant ? I can imagine a futuristic theme. I could also see something rustic with vegetation.
That's what I was thinking. Aside from the few that hate the idea so much they won't step foot in that area.
I'm ok with a great 3D ride that has a great view, no shoes in front of my view please. Video screens are fine combined with great environmental effects. I like to hear how others would design this area. I hope those floating mountains effects work.
