Attendance drop in the parks... I wonder why

Exactly. Avatar the movie doesn't seem to have the same support that print can provide. In fact, I wonder how many kids might be disappointed with Avatar Land because they were expecting The Last Airbender?
Well just like others have said, if the whole land is spectacular I don't think people will care about the IP. I love Carsland, but I've never seen the movie. The land itself, is beautifully themed and it's fun to admire all of the details.

It may sound heartless to exclude a "portion" of the market, but so be it. Red Lobster is absolutely fine losing the McDonalds portion of their market because they want their restaurants to be a step above fast food. They want people to sit down and order $12+ entree's and drink $4+ drinks. I'm fine going there once a month, but I couldn't afford to go every day. So be it. They don't want the McDonalds crowd, and they don't expect repeat customers like me to show up every single day.

Similarly, if WDW is going to lose a portion of the Foxworthy crowd by raising prices, or lose people who can't afford to go every year, I don't think Disney management will cry too much. Meanwhile, plenty of people are lining up every day, but few will glorify that crowds are lower because not being bothered by something draws little attention. Put another way, if Disney was full of mosquitos, I would notice it. But because Disney is not full of mosquitos, I'm not on these Boards thanking the exterminators for a job well done. Problems are noticed, but the lack of a nuisance draws little attention.

I always thought a Ba Sing Se train ride would be amazing. Not sure it would fit at Disney or universal though unfortunately...

I think you are underestimating how well Pandora is going to turn out.

Not at all ......... I'm looking forward to it as well. My comment about some kids being disappointed because it's not what they might think it will be is totally unrelated from whether or not Pandora will be a success. I was speaking more towards how younger kids may not even know about Avatar the movie but are very familiar with the Nickelodeon Avatar series.....

Because he's a jerk....and a **** poor governor...

If someone said to me, "San Francisco or WDW?", there'd be no thinking about which I would choose....

I enjoy WDW, but after a few days I start to get a tad bored...could be because I've visited close to 40 times in the past few years. Which is why my visits now coincide with other events. Speaking of....are you running? ;)

Was supposed to be there last week. Had to cancel at the last minute due to illness, so I lost those DVC points I was trying to use up and couldn't bank. But did that bother me? No. What bothered me about not being able to go was forgoing my planned visit to Fit2Run. I have found with recent trips I look forward to spending time at Disney Springs more than parks. That's a long - and not inexpensive - trip just to shop. Especially when there's a fantastic outlet mall just a two hour drive away.

And the shopping in SF surpasses anything Disney could offer. Plus the food, my god, the food! :hungry:

These are the reasons that I decided against DVC.. well, I've never seriously considered it, and then this year almost did. There's just too many other places that we go, and have yet to go. I know that I won't get my money's worth, in a few years we will not be doing weeklong stays, even more importantly, I can't plan 11 months out. I know me, and I just can't.lol

So.... that brings me to the W&D half. I don't know!!!!! I hate to commit to dates right now. I already have 2 planned vacays this year..and a 3rd planned may give me a full blown panic attack. I'm more of a 2 months in advance planner. Yes, I know I'll be going sometime in the fall, but I just CAN'T plan another trip this far in advance. However, I'm really intrigued and I do want to do it. So we'll see.lol. I will tag you as soon as I decide.

One may surmise that Disney's quest for Star Wars was perhaps a direct reaction to the success of HP at Universal. They wouldn't let another crowd-drawing IP slip through their fingers. Avatar as a movie is probably not a crowd-drawing IP. HP, Star Wars, Pixar, and the Disney Characters are.

I have no doubt it will be successful. In fact, any new attraction opened at WDW will probably be successful simply because it's, well, new.
But will it have staying power? Will it become a classic? It just seems that lately the stuff that's being produced at WDW is just ok and attraction popularity will gradually wane when the newness wears off.

Well, it does fit well with one of the rides in DHS....

Right. I think Pandora will be successful in spite of any negative, in much the same way people considered the FL expansion to be very successful. But FLE didn't result in double digit attendance increases for WDW nor (in my opinion) provide any attractions with the potential to be classics decades from now. If they don't cut corners on the attraction itself and it truly turns out to be cutting edge then it could have the potential to be a classic like Haunted Mansion. And if it also results in a 20-30% increase in park attendance like HP did for USO, then it truly will have earned the distinction of being a huge success.

We can't clog up another thread with our sports talk ;) but I do have some more questions and will ask in the running thread later.

The timing of the new Star Wars movies was absolutely brilliant. Just brilliant. Gen X, the "original fan base" is now grown with school age children. What better time to revamp a franchise than that?
Nostalgia and new content combined to share with your own children. It was truly a brilliant move on their part. There's no other word that I can think of to describe it.

Gen X?! The original movies came out in 1977, 1980 and 1983... Sorry, Stamps, but the original fan base was we Boomers. Good % of Gen X weren't even alive or waaay too young.

I'm not sure Red Lobster is a good example of a business succeeding by trying to price out customers.

Ok so you were the adult fan base, buying the toys and merchandise for the kid fans.lol. I still have the original millennium falcon passed down from my brother. They just don't make them like that anymore!

Back on topic of attendance, I think when SW land is complete WDW will see the greatest spike of many years. I don't think Avatar will have as huge of a draw. I say enjoy WDW now before those fans make their decent. ;)
