ya, but maby it stinks due to Florida english teachers are uaually eavil teachers not giving 504 students what they need. I have a wrist problem and she barely acomedated after the principal got invbolved. She gave Topns of work on old novels and only spent 3 weeks on gramor and a month on spalling huge words. The others were reading large noncence books other than Ceaser and The Pearl.

I am posting this to help readers of this post follow along with the point she is trying to get across...

maby = maybe
uaually = usually (possible typo)
eavil = evil :drevil:
acomedated = accommodated
invbolved = involved (possible typo)
Topns = Tons (possible typo)
gramor = grammar
spalling = spelling
noncence = nonsense
Ceaser = Caesar

(don't mean to sound like a jerk...but...I'm trying to show you that maybe you should stop the protest and, like someone else stated, put the efforts into school instead) (I know everyone isn't the best speller in the world...but these aren't tough words and I know that some could've just been a typo problem because of your wrist)

Okay, I was born in St. Petersburg, Fla and I lived there until I was like 14. I was then moved to a SMALL town (that can't even be classified as a city b/c of it's size) in the mountains of North Carolina. Red Neck Central. When I moved up here, I couldn't understand what any of my teachers were saying for at least a month and a half. Their accents were so thick that I sat there and had NO clue and missed a lot of what was going on.

Let me tell you about my graduating class of less than 200, half of the girls either dropped out, got married, and had a kid ~OR~ got married, had a kid, stayed in school, dumped it on their mothers ~OR~ were very "friendly" (cough cough) with the ag department. (That's the agricultural department for all ya'll non-rednecks.)

I was an exception. I made awesome grades ON MY OWN and overcame my obstacles with the cultural and linguistic barriers. I graduated with high honors and showed everyone that females who live in my town do NOT have to be barefoot and pregnant working at a fast food restaurant. Females CAN have a future and I will show them all!

Now, you have to want it. You, Figment1986, have to want to succeed and be somebody so badly that you can taste it. It's all up to you, and not some teacher that you are finding fault in.

Okay, now, reach for it and prove the other 503 students wrong!

True...school is difficult...I will completely admit that. Yes, at times, it feels pointless and you feel like you're "learning" things that you'll NEVER use in real life... BUT...take Math for example...you may NEVER need to use Calculus in your everyday life...but Calculus makes you think of "other ways" to solve the problem at hand...and...you WILL need to do that in "real life".

Granted, reading old works of literature may seem tedious and boring (believe me, I am completely with you on that) but there are some works that you may like...and you need to take the good with the bad in school. I for one never would've thought that I could like anything by Shakespeare...but I walked away really enjoying Hamlet.

School is all in how you make it...you can look at school as pointless work that'll never help you out and it's just "busy" work intruding on the fun you could be having...or...it can be a very positive experience.

Flip the coin on this one...and maybe you'll see the silver lining on the cloud of "School"

I'm blaming my parents. Those jerks held me accountable for EVERYTHING--if I got in trouble, they wanted to know what I did to deserve it--they never cared about what someone else did. If I got bad grades, they wouldn't even LISTEN to what else the teacher could have done--there they were, pointing out all the things I could have done instead. And now look what happens--I'm a responsible, employed, successful adult. I can't believe my parents ruined me this way. To think I could be unemployed and on the dole if it weren't for them and their stupid home training.

;)

I think you may be my sister. I think we had the same parents!:lol:

Teachers are the unsung heroes of our day and they are fast becoming scapegoats for every baggy-pants, moronic kid that goofed off for 12 years and wonders why he can't spell on a 1st grade level. Their imbecilic parents should be arrested for child neglect for failing to inculcate the importance of applying oneself in order to learn what is being taught. One does not learn thru osmosis simply by showing up for class and taking up space.

Maybe you should join some extra-cirricular clubs! Student Council and Key Club are super fun!

We're doing this really cool "back-to-school "mixer""!

Can't wait! :sohappy:

Amen to what you people posted. Figment I am in summer school right now, and I really don't have a probem with it (except waking up at 6) But anyways people go to school to get educated, and they can get a great job in the future. So just get rid of your stupid club...cause no is going to Join. Thanks for the avatar though...:D

This is my third attempt to post something in here! Try as I might to make my post short, sweet, and to the point, I have failed miserably! Anyway... the doctor's wife has many, many thoughts about education. I was there with him from h.s. graduation and all the way through 'til now, where he's in his 2nd year of residency. And I'd started to tell about the arduous process that is involved in becoming a doctor ... but that got me started into a whole rant that ended with my thoughts about malpractice and HMO's!! :eek: So I'll just not get into it. I wil say that even though my husband will *someday* make a decent amount of money, I have every intention of going to college still, just to set a good example for my girls. So, there, this was about one tenth of my last two posts! :lol: It's still disjointed and makes no sense, but perhaps somebody can take something good away from it!

And to Jenny and Tramp.... *thumbs*:sohappy:

*Warning, Rant Coming*

I'm not surprised by the attitudes of todays youth and their parents. In this age of instantaneous information and instant gratification, everybody wants everything now and believes that they can have their cake and eat it too. Everything wants to be special, everyone thinks they're a victim and no one takes responsibility for their actions. Instead, kids are schlepped down in front of the television at an early age for the great gods of Barney, Jerry springer and MTV to raise.

Parents are too busy in this society with furthering their own careers and living vicatiously through their kids little league sports then to actually pay attention to those kids and actually give them some values to help understand and become productive members of society.

The idea of actually reading and gaining an education - something that a large percentage of the planet cannot get - has gone the wayside of video games, the internet, television and oreos. Long gone are the days of creativity, playing cowboys and indians and actually experiencing the real world. Instead, kids are plugged in and buying all the evils of the world that are being marketed to them by corporations who are seeking their disposable income, irregardless of any social ills that may come along the way.

The only people that actually can prevent this cascading domino theory of ignorance is the parents. Parents need to raise their kids right and teach them, listen to them and just pay attention to your kids. Should a 12 year old be watching "The Matrix" or playing GTA3? Hell No. But parents let it happen. Parents are the key to instilling some sense of right and wrong in a child. While it is easy to blame video games and television, who's the person who let them watch TV or play those games in the first place. Its a lot easier to try and deflect the blame rather than trying to actually raise a child.

If society continues down this path, the end of the world will come, and we'll buy it, because it's been marketed to us and sold to us, and we'll buy it wothout question. Becasue we never learned any better.

Hmmm too much reading to do in this thread. Can I get the paraphrased version please? :p

Ok, seriously. As insane as these people sound...LISTEN to what they have to say. They know what they're talking about. Espescially the duck she's a smart cookie.

I'm assuming you all said something intelligent because I didn't have the patience to read any of it. :p :D

*edit*

I also just wanted to say I can't wait to get back to school. I'm bored out of my mind right now and working is a pain in my a$$! :hammer:

I think people should be careful not to generalise here though.

A few of the comments on this thread would be tantamount to me saying 'everyone over the age of 30 have receding hairlines and incontinence problems.'

In my experience, it tends to be the troublesome minority that gets their voices heard, whilst the hard working, courteous majority is not so easily noticed.
