Merf You Da Man!

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and so people like me, in another country can hear the music from spaceship earth so quickly!

I've called Bob Iger, he's going to pull some strings for next year's Disney Legends, here's hoping!

Merf- Disney Legend 2008

For a moment I thought you were going to say:

Bruce Broughton - Disney Legend 2008

I feel he should be one if Randy Newman can be one because not only has he done fantastic Disney movie scores, but fantastic Disney attraction and movie-attraction tie-in scores! IMO, they're all fantastic and hummable.

The new SSE score should feel retro because that's they era Bruce most likely got his start in. So in a way, he was probable returning to his roots!

Still not sold on Judi Drench (the only announcement to bother me about this refurb).

Been listening to the audio a bit more..

Doesn't it remind you of the old Epcot music? It's very complex, it has playful light moments mixed withsegments of monumental granduer. It's hard to explain, but Epcot's music in recent years has become very passive.. and almost vanilla. Like overly homogenized, nothing on the far end of the scale of emotion. I remember Imagination having "sad" music at times - compare that to the rpevious SSE, which is happy much very much even-keeled in a semi-optimistic sense.

This music seems to go back to the old style, with themes that span emotions. Think of SSE's old loading music (goto the Epcot webpage at disneyworld.com if you want to hear it) and notice how middle-ground emotional it is. It's vanilla. This is more chocolate and strawberry, with hints of mint and key lime ;)

Yes, I agree. The music does remind me of the EPCOT Center music of the early 80's. I just hope the music is just a sneak preview of a fabulous updated SSE ride.

Thanks so much for sharing. I can hardly wait for our September trip.
It seems so far away.....

Old-school music indeed. A sweeping score.

From 0:18 to 0:45 on the 1:00 music video is my guess for the motif which will permeate the attraction in various instruments (English horn, oboe, perhaps some ancient percussion in the prehistoric scene, harpsichord perhaps in the Renaissance)...

Very old school... Can't wait to get an induction-recording of this queue loop! That is the current major task to be accomplished!

I want to add myself to the list of people thanking

Merf

for all of your wonderful updates.

We'll be at the World 12/14 thru 12/21 and I can't wait to ride the new SSE (at least I hope I can!).

Thanks again Merf!

I think it's some sort of small portable recorder device... They may be talking about such devices here. Whether or not the actual mechanics of these devices involve "induction," I have no idea...

I'll be heading over there soon. If you're going, look for a guy in jeans, a red University of Arizona jacket, and the black retro EPCOT Center cap. Feel free to say hi!

I'm at Spaceship Earth right now, the construction walls are still up, the music isn't on, and the CMs are saying that there probably won't be any previews today. They're not sure, though.

I can reiterate what was just said. the music wasn't on. in fact it was quite eerily quite. the left entrance sign was not on. but the right one was. there was a lot of Seimens people wondering around and yaking on cellphones. going in and out of the lounge.

Just got back. Pretty much what they all just said. No music, walls up.

Only thing, CM told me there might be a small chance of previews tonight. I'll be there tomorrow morning.

I don't think anyone really knows at this point, but when the CMs get all trained and they're operating it, there's a good chance we'll know when to show up.

Oh, i didn't mention this earlier, but before anyone sees this as a sign of immediate opening - the audio cut out every so often. It would go silent for a few seconds, mid song, every so often. So, they're definitely still working on stuff.

Like I previously stated, Spaceship Earth IS currently SCHEDULED TO OPERATE December 14th.
