Sweet. Thanks for the music/pix Merf. Now if I can just convince my husband it's worth it to wait around SSE for a few hours a day....

Someone in a previous post had said December 14th? Is that the date for the soft opening? And how does that work? Like, if I show up on December 14th, will I definitely be able to ride?

I don't think anyone really knows at this point, but when the CMs get all trained and they're operating it, there's a good chance we'll know when to show up.

Oh, i didn't mention this earlier, but before anyone sees this as a sign of immediate opening - the audio cut out every so often. It would go silent for a few seconds, mid song, every so often. So, they're definitely still working on stuff.

Been listening to the audio a bit more..

Doesn't it remind you of the old Epcot music? It's very complex, it has playful light moments mixed withsegments of monumental granduer. It's hard to explain, but Epcot's music in recent years has become very passive.. and almost vanilla. Like overly homogenized, nothing on the far end of the scale of emotion. I remember Imagination having "sad" music at times - compare that to the rpevious SSE, which is happy much very much even-keeled in a semi-optimistic sense.

This music seems to go back to the old style, with themes that span emotions. Think of SSE's old loading music (goto the Epcot webpage at disneyworld.com if you want to hear it) and notice how middle-ground emotional it is. It's vanilla. This is more chocolate and strawberry, with hints of mint and key lime ;)

Can you tell me anymore about the time they almost let people on I heard about? (I forget if it was you or someone else that said that?)

Not me, i only saw people coming out.

A group of kids, all wearing matching soccer shirts - i'd say they were tweens - popped out from the side door near the end of the queue switchback on the west side (not the Project Tomorrow doors) trailed by a guest relations host. They were very excited, which lets be honest, doesn't happen that much in Epcot for tween boys.

Anywho, they left and headed around to the front and out of my line of vision. Then a few moments later CM's dressed in formal attire (vests, ties, black dress pants) showed up pushing large carts and tables of food. Cookies were on one thing, like the start of a dessert buffet, and then the other had SEVERAL bottles of wine. The CM's were struggling to get it up the hill and in the door, they had apparently come from the park gate near the restrooms that leads to Seas.

They went in the same door the kids had come out of.

Later, several managers dissapeared into that door. A tech-type dude carrying one of those super-duty indestructable laptops and what looked to be some cables went in through the front left refurb wall, and every so often the SSE CM's would poke their heads into the doors in the refurb walls.

Finally, before i left, a pair of managers popped out the same side door as the kids and the food and went along their way toward the park entrance, again dissapearing.

That's about all i saw - wait, hold up - the lounge!

The lounge was lit up, with those funky wavy panel lights. At one point the funky panels were each a different color, like one orange, one red, one blue, one purple etc.. Was neat looking. Later in the night it slowly changed colors and was all orange for a while. Peeps were up there, but i could only see the tops of their heads.

And.. that's all i saw :)

My other half wants me to note that SSE was the busiest we've ever seen it, in all the times we've seen it in the last few months. Like a hive of activity.

Yes...great minds think alike! Everyone wish us luck...

Well, ever since I heard of the chance (however slim) of SSE previews, Epcot has been my new first destination after the airport tomorrow. (originally the new Mansion) :)
With any luck, I'll get there around 2:00. :)

I wouldn't be suprised if the walls come down soon-ish. The queue is pretty much finished, and with Project Tomorrow closed - they can certainly be finishing that up (the area behind the globe already looked finished a week ago).

i just have to say, that was absolutely what i needed. i cant wait to have my favorite back, and better then ever.

i didnt realize how happy i would be when i saw that sign and heard that music, but OH MAN is it amazing. If that sign shows hints of how updated and beautiful the ride will be, i think i might cry during the ride.

im very excited.

Looks like I'll have to make a stop over there tomorrow before I head to work. SSE is all the buzz at the park lately - I too have been hearing very strong rumors of soft previews beginning next week (but here's hoping for sooner than that!).

The music is brilliant, the costumes are...um... retro..., and SSE is looking good!

When I left tonight, the park side of SSE was bathed in a bright white light. It looked eerily ghost-like, but very beautiful.

Merf You Da Man!

Thank you so much for all of your hard work and so people like me, in another country can hear the music from spaceship earth so quickly!

I've called Bob Iger, he's going to pull some strings for next year's Disney Legends, here's hoping!

Is it possible for a brand new score make you feel like you're listening to a beloved favorite from the good old days? Because that's what those snippets did for me...
...it's some feeling that takes me right back to the first years I experienced EPCOT as a small child. It might be music I've never heard before, but it's almost as if it was written to represent that huge impression that EPCOT made on me...

Both of you said it so well! The new music really has a classic, exciting, and optimistic Epcot Center "feel" to it, while still being new and fresh. I think it will really draw people into the SSE queue. Do you think this load music is actually part of the ride music score? I hope so!

Thanks for the updates and the music wav file, Merf! I'll have to check out the videos later since I can't watch them here at work. :brick:

Merf.....
Merf....

Seriously, listening to that music made my heart skip a few beats and I'm bawling like crazy right now. For I will miss the old SSE with good old Irons narrating, but I'm sooooo looking foward to the new SSE. It will always be my favorite ride no matter of the changes. <3 Thank you.
