Are we to blame for WDW cutbacks?

Actually, I remember when TDA was run really poor back in the late 90's to early 2000. It was actually Roy Disney (God rest his soul) who should be given the majority of the credit to the way TDA is run now. Though having said that Lutz should be given some credit for helping provide Roy Disney with ammunition against Micheal Eisner. His site and some of his articles were often quoted by the local and sometimes national media during the time when Roy was launching his campaign against Eisner. The failure of DCA, the accidents around the park resulting in deaths (Big Thunder, Columbia) and the rise of the Disneyland passholders were constantly being reported on Lutz's site. Mostly negatively of course, but with the media, negativity produces sensational stories, so when trouble began brewing at Disney and specifically Anaheim, Lutz's site was one of the go to sites. You have to remember, the internet was still relatively new and there was probably about 3 major sites devoted to solely covering Disneyland, and the others all kept a happy outlook on the state of the resorts. Love him or hate him he was a presence in helping to shape the direction of the Disneyland resort.

Did you just read what Pepper's Ghost wrote? Al Putz deserves NO credit at all!

The Dis boards have more people than this one? I might have to register there and offer a simulcast for my future threads, as I feel its important for my fellow Disney fans to read what I write.

I've been here 3 years and only have 400 posts, Iam a huge believer in quality over quantity, it separates me from the general public.

Jimmy Thick- Always leave them wanting more!!!

The best thing that could ever happen to WDW would be for DL and DCA to take over the #1 and #2 spots on the top ten theme parks attendance list.

The best thing that could happen to WDW would be if either US or IOA or both take over the spots of DAK, DHS or EPCOT (everything else is totally too unrealistic)

While no company should look exclusively to internet fan sites as the basis of decision making, to totally ignore said sites would also be a faulty process. The Walt Disney Company has a fan base and brand loyalty that many companies would kill to possess. Not ever person who posts on a site such as this is going to be a complete die hard, and there are many people who only sign up and post for trip planning and trip reports; the levels and interests of the fandom are many and varied. The fan sites, in some ways, are a microcosm of the people who visit the respective Resorts. Look at the Disneyland centric sites and you will see many people who are Annual Passholders and live significantly closer to the Resort than people posting at a site such as this one. Visitors to the Disneyland Resort visit more frequently and that familiarity creates a level of expectations that are just not going to be as strong amongst people who visit less frequently.

I think Lutz is probably dead on right.

Negative observations are often met (on this site and others) with a "GREAT! Stay home! One less person in line in front of me!", or even the occasional "So what if they cut this or that. I'll always love WDW no matter what!!". I've seen both of those staments literally on this site many times, and each time if I knew how to put one of those funny facepalm pictures up, I would.

Oh how I wish some of those people would be customers to one of my companies... I could let quality suffer and put that money in my pocket at the end of the year instead, all while continuing to take their money, and laugh as they told others how great I was!!

Although my guess is that Al really didn't have this site in his crosshairs... It was the DIS. But plenty are guilty on this site too. At least Steve, for the most part, doesn't censor here.

Sure. But I bet at the same time, they pick and choose what they reference from sites like this in meetings and tailor that to back up whatever point they're trying to make. Information manipulation. Big time.

I think you're right that sites like these are microcosms of the fanbase with varied opinions and stances, but my guess is that the condensed versions that get put in front of those in charge don't reflect that.
