Are we gonna melt pre TR

Hi,

we just booked a trip for the world for August 25-September 4th. I thought I'd post details as they develop.

since our december trip which I wrote a TR about, we have been tossing around the idea of going again this time with the kids. A few new things have been affecting our thoughts.

First is the crazy price they are charging for airfare nowadays. We haven't been able to find anything much less than about $4000 for the four of us. Now I am sitting on some frequent flyer points which chopped that in just about in two when we booked the flights last night.

The boys are now ten. We always have had some form of the dining plan when we went before with the kids. Last December we went without. We don't mind dining in Disney with a DP, and after that trip we decided that when the boys turned ten we would only get the dining when it was free. The free dining which opens up on the 28th of August was the clincher in choosing to go.

After booking the plane tickets last night we starting talking dining. We each chose our favorite place. DW chose Le Cellier and we have an ADR for the 28th. I chose Yachtsman on the evening of the 3rd. That leaves us with three TS entitlements. I get to choose one DW gets two, (funny how that works) For these we are going with new experiences. I have made my choice 50's PTC is mine, we have an ADR on the 30th. DW has chosen Tutto Italia for the 31st. We like choosing a couple of signature dining places, and eating at the resort food court a couple of nights.

We haven't booked our resort yet, but we will this afternoon. We will have to make this a split stay. Fot the free dining period we are going to stay at POR in the AB section, hopefully near the front of the resort. We have stayed at POR, POFQ, WL and BC. We have had this discussion many times, and we like POR a lot. WL is nice and so is BC, but considering the price, choosing POR is a no brainer for us.

for the 25th - 27th we are gonna try to get Pop Century. We haven't tried a value before, and want to give them a chance. Now we wont be on a dining plan, and won't have park admission for those two full days. One of those days will be spent at the Orlando Premium Outlets. DW and I loved our morining there in December. The other day will probably be spent at the pool. One thing we have discussed is going over to Kona for breakfast probably on our shopping day, as the kids haven't had breakfast there.

More details to come soon.

We added an adr for Les Chef du France on Sept 2nd. That uses up our allocation of TS entitlements, the two nights at POR we'll eat at the CS in the resort or at a park

I hear you on the airfare. We actually had 3 roundtrip tickets on Southwest for free, but when I went to book you couldn't book the return flight before it's the Sunday before Thanksgiving. So there goes $700 we didn't plan on spending! Ugh.

Hi,

DW spent some time last evening lining up a rental car off of the excess points I have built up. We will pick it up at the Downtown Disney the morning after we get in and turn it in the evening of the next day. That will give us a car for all of the first full day, and most of the second full day were are at Pop.

So the first few days of our trip are as follows

Thursday Aug 25

Leave St John's about noon Orlando time
Arrive MCO 7:30 PM
Check in at Pop about 9 PM

Friday Aug 26

Catch a Downtown Disney bus to the Market place, and walk over to the Hilton to pick up the car. Then head over to Orlando Premium Outlets followed by swimming and dinner at the POP food court.

Saturday Aug 27th

Sea World, Typhoon Lagoon, Universal, Pool day, we havent decided, bring the car back about 4 pm, get a POP bus back to the resort. Dinner at POP food court.

Sunday Aug 28th

Get up early, check out, get the front desk to ship our bags over to POR, Grab a cab over to POR, check in and off to the parks.

How does this sound?

Is this your first trip since the combined land/sea trip you wrote about a while ago?

Is the same group of four going?

Okay, given your take on the FREEZING temps we both experienced last December, I'm going to go ahead and throw in my bet - Yes, you will melt.

Seriously though - so excited you get to go back and bring the kids. I love Pop. Absolutely my favorite Value. If you don't have a preferred room, may I suggest you request the 50's section with a lake view? It's my favorite - so quiet. The rooms will seem small to you though, but the good news is there are plenty of pools for hanging out!

Can't wait for the TR!

So glad to hear/read this! We're staying at POR on our upcoming trip (14 days!). We've only stayed at AKL and THV so we're very spoiled and wondering how POR will stack up to those two resorts.

Sounds like a great trip plan! As for the melting- I think erstwo has a point- it's going to be very warm for you guys no matter what. Granted, our local temps are as hot (or hotter) than Orlando, so this might work better for people who live in areas that get intense summers...but whenever we're doing an outdoor summer trip- we start building up to it by spending a chunk of our free time outside. i.e. so our bodies deal with the constant heat better. I know it's not nearly as warm near you guys, but it might help.

Well,

We have stayed at two deluxes now and to my mind the only difference that might make BC worth it is the proximity to EPCOT. We think that POR is amore than enough for us.

There is no doubt we will make the pool this trip, but rather will we get out??

We have visited southern Ontario when the temps were in the 90's and it was humid. We are planning to hit the parks at rope drop, take advantage of morning EHM and bail about noon or so. Maybe go back at night

So to update things

Day 1 26 August

After arriving at POP around 9PM of the 25th, we will hit the hay. The next morning we are planning to get up, head over to the Hilton in Downtown Disney, pick up the free rental car and head over to Sea World. I suppose we will be there most of the day. After leaving Sea World we will look for a Publix, or maybe Wal-Mart and get some bottled water. For now the late afternoon plan is to hang out at the pool, and eat at the POP food court.

Day 2 27 August

We have an 8:05 am ADR at Kona. We are planning to drive over, eat, and head off to Orlando Premium Outlets. After shopping and heading back to the hotel to drop off our goodies, I'll drop off the car and head back over to POP. Dinner will probably be at POP again.

More to come

Awww you remember my TR? Love that!

First trip since last May, yeah - seems like forever ago and we're counting down the days.

Not the girls this time, family trip! Mom, Dad, and my sister (17). =)

That's pretty much our plan as well...of course ours is partially dictated by nap time. It's really the humidity that makes it brutal...it can be 100 degrees here, but it's that darn humidity/heat index that makes it tough. I see pool time in our future!

Now for the good part.

Day 3 August 28th

We are hoping to get up early, check out at POP, grab a cab to POR, get our Keys to the World with the park tickets and hit a park as early as possible.

On this day the crowd calendar for the following parks are

MK 1.8
EP 0.5
HS 5.5 (Fantasmic)
AK 3.8

All of our days have two or three really low choices. We will be very flexible in which park we go to.

So here, it will be EP or MK.

In the evening we are Dining at Yachtsman at 7 PM, and we are planning to see Illuminations that night. MK has Extra Magic Hours that evening, and we might hop over there after.

I was thinking that rather than take the monorail, it might be quicker to take the side exit, walk to BC and take the bus to MK. What do you think?

A minor change here, we are dropping Kona here and adding it when we are at POR

A fairly big change here, we are changing dinner to the California Grill. This means that the evening will be spent at MK. There is evening emh at MK.

I am kinda sad to be skipping Yachtsman as that was to be our excuse to head over to YC/BC.
