Any Updates on Test Track Redo?

That sucks! I was really hoping that they wouldn't close test track because I look forward to it at Epcot..looks like we'll just have to be surprised :( The only thing I would say is that Living with the Land is great but it just doesn't handle the same guest capacity in terms of the whole summer closure thing. Soarin already has nearly a two hour wait sometimes and I can't believe Disney hates Epcot that much that they want to make it even worse for the summer by closing a major attraction. Lame...

This is the best time (logistically) for an e-ticket attraction redo. The length of the redo is around 6 months. If it were to take place any other time of the year it would involved the Holiday season (busiest time).

As of right now it is scheduled to close after the Easter rush. No indication of anything changing within the actual ride except some on-board computer changes and maybe some clean up of the sets. Most of the work will be focused on an all new queue and post show area. I believe they may even pull back the large Test Track sigh out front of the building to be closer to the attraction. This would simply make it easier on vehicular traffic to get thru the area after park hours.

Thats fine and all, but I guess focus from here on out is on queue's only, and no more changes or updates to actual rides/attractions anymore. They will probably redo the Imagination queue before anything to the ride.
Im all for Test Tracks queue being redone etc, but at the same time would have liked to have seen some new scenes/effects in the ride.

This is a rehab, not a whole new ride. Sponsorship is being taken over and they are simply using the time to update some things. Since it IS a major draw for visitors, anything more would be a much longer down time.

As for Imagination, I've seen Blue Sky ideas of actual ride changes, not just the queue. But again, these are "blue sky" which mean ideas only. Nothing has been pushed forward at this point for Imagination.

Probably waiting for a sponsor? Would love it if they didnt cause who knows how long that could be, but at same time a sponsor would bring extra funding.

As I stated before a few weeks ago on the same topic, the word among us Operations CM's is that the start date has been pushed back into early May. It's still not set yet, but others in other department (namely Maintenance and Management) have said it starts April 15th; our doubts though lie in the fact that it has yet to be announced on the WDW site or no press release with further details. To have WDW announce the rehab with barely a month left to go would be very odd. Stranger things have happened though...*COUGH* When SM decided to be redone at DL *COUGH*.

As for changes...

- Yes, the entire queue will most likely be changed completely.

- It's possible that the postshow will close mid-April, regardless of whether the attraction is down yet or not (think SSE's postshow change from Global Neighborhood to Project Tomorrow prior to closing for the 07 version), so if you see walls going up straight to the exit, don't be surprised.

- Regardless of that fact, the postshow itself will be upgraded/heavily changed.

- The preshow (as in video and the briefing rooms themselves) will most definitely change. What's still in flux is whether the briefing rooms will be gone or not. Us in Ops want them gone (it's very frustrating in terms of efficiency). There will still be an actual preshow video, but whether it'll be in the rooms or just monitors overhead remains to be seen.

- Changes to the attraction itself...this is where things get ultra sketchy. Some say the entire attraction inside will be gutted and redone (because most of the new sets are being finished offsite and shipped in), some say only certain scenes will be gone. When you think about it, it makes sense cause if you're designing a car in the queue, certain scenes make no sense to have (the semi, the environmental chambers especially come to mind).

- Besides that, track/track layout will stay the same.

- There's going to be PLENTY of behind the scenes upgrades.

- Probable new costumes.

- Lastly, yes new cars, but not in the way you may think. It's still debatable whether or not they will be completely new cars. The 'new' blue cars you see are all different in design and how they were implemented (some are painted, some are wraps like the Tronorail). So whether or not they're completely new like the RSR cars (that have cool looking speakers next to the headrests) remains to be seen as well.

.....Annnnnd that's all I'll say (and technically know).

The cars wrapped and painted are not new. new gelcoat in the interiors . but you can still see chips , Nicks and wear and tear.

I don't want to get my hopes up with this one, but I really hope there is a major overhaul to this attraction. I am one who enjoys it but I really think its gotten incredibly stale and lost its luster in a big way.

There WILL be new costumes. Posted about that months ago.

I know, both from you and from how I know these things.

I only say probable because I've heard about 3 different designs for it and I've just gotten to the stage where I'll believe when I see it haha.

Test Track Redo

From what I've read Test Track will be closed from April till September. It will be sponsered by Chevrolet and basically the entire ride will be gutted except for the actual track and redone. Cars will be redone and badged with the Chevy bow tie.

This really sucks. If they close this on the 15th and the fact the BTMRR is closed is going to be a killer for my 9 year old. We are going on the 21st for a week. I have been trying to convince him for 5 years to go on those rides. He is finally and officially a roller coaster junkie. He was so looking forward to going on those two specific rides!!! Grrrrrrrr
