This sounds good to me. I know there's been some debate about the Tiki-Stitch version in Tokyo but there's some elements there that I wouldn't mind seeing in the WDW show. In TDL, the cockatoos descend singing, "On the Beach at Waikiki". Of course, it's in Japanese and they're all wearing blue Stitch ears while singing but I digress... :lookaroun Anyway, the TDL show maintains a Polynesian theme in spite of an obnoxious blue alien joining the show so I wouldn't mind the middle section (Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing) replaced with something with a little more "Aloha Spirit".

I could see them replacing one of the current songs with "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" without adding Stitch himself. I personally wouldn't mind such updates, so long as they keep "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room." I think people wouldn't have hated UNM so much if they'd at least gotten to hear that whole song performed before Iago and Zazu took over.

Agreed with that completely.

The first time I saw UNM, I couldn't believe that we didn't get to hear the whole song, what a slap in the face. Looking forward to hearing it again!

I thought there was a post that said that the reopening was delayed till June (or July-- I can't remember).

True, but when the fire first happened, they said unm was going to be opened by now. With the date getting pushed back until the fall ...

I recently had occasion to talk to a cast member who works in Adventureland and I was able to pick her brain about the plans for The Tiki Room. She told me that what she had heard was that Disney was planning on putting a new spin on the old attraction. Purists will most likely have mixed feelings as she said the classic Tiki Room song will be featured but it will not be the exact same show as we remember from the 70s and 80s. She thinks they are going to stay true to the original concept and keep the same 4 main characters but come up w/ some new songs while still maintaining a sort of tribute to the original show. She also thought there'd be a new pre-show (which makes sense since Phil Hartman, the voice of one of the pre-show birds, is dead).

I don't really consider myself a purist but I'll admit I may get a bit teary-eyed to see an updated show come in. Three of the four actors who provided the voices for the main characters are deceased. I suppose Wally Boag could be coaxed out of retirement to do José. But Thurl Ravenscroft (Fritz) and Fulton Burley (Michael), who along with Wally provided the voices for both the original Tiki Room show and UNM, have both passed away. So has Jerry Orbach, who replaced Ernie Newton as the voice of Pierre in UNM. An updated show is great, but it just might not be the same with new voices.

I hope this isn't just thrown together and there were some previously advanced plans to pull some ideas from. Seems like a short duration to pull a change off.

Agreed, a tad concerned. But will see. Im surprised they are putting more budget into it than originally planned.

That is going to be something that will change part of the feel of the show, but there are ways that they could blend the new with the old.

Sadly, I don't see Wally Boag reprising Jose'. He's 90 years old now and he's very frail. I've "Liked" his Facebook page and seen a few recent videos. While there's still some of the old Boag spark, his days of performing are, unfortunately, over. :( However, Disney has a pretty good record of finding sound alikes so casting a new Jose' may be part of the future Tiki Room.

Agreed, just watching any mickey show, you can't tell any differences between the voice actors that have given MM his voice. I hope that disney could get a song or two from the sherman brothers.

Actually, first time visitors make up 40% of WDW's annual attendance. With repeats and internationals taking up the majority of the rest. Us die-hard fans and AP's (also CM's) make up such a minuscule percentage of their overall attendance that I'm sure our opinion matters very little.

At DLR, the exact opposite is true. The vast majority of their attendance comes from die-hard fans, so their vocal opinion is often heard and acted upon.

While I hardly think who makes up the bulk of your attendance should be the basis for decisions on what does and does not happen, I do believe that many of the die-hard fans have the best interests of the parks at heart and that if Disney would listen to us just a little bit more, they wouldn't be sitting there scratching their heads as to why their latest on-the-cheap investment didn't net nearly as much revenue as they anticipated.

Well, they'll be scratching their heads regardless of the input we provide, if they were even interested in listening to it all. Some business minds will always wonder why their ideas didn't make more money. And then there are business minds that came up with 'Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey' who have some how extended a 1 year attraction into 200 years of bland.

What if we got half of a song from just one of the Sherman's? A half as good Sherman track is better than a full track from someone else.

True, anything from the shermans is better than what else is out there.
Okay, at the risk of having my traditionalist membership revoked...I think the Shermans, while they've written some classic music for Disney, are a bit overrated.

Exhibit A: "The Monkey's Uncle," with Annette fronting the Beach Boys, written by the Sherman Bros.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQG10A-ymtg

Exhibit B: The Beach Boys singing "Disney Girls (1957)," written by Beach Boy Bruce Johnston. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQG10A-ymtg

At least the Sherman Brothers don't have to admit they wrote "I write the songs".

Hey HMF.

What is your favorite music group or artist?

Now, try and tell me they do not have some songs that are not all that great as you would say. Is each and every song great? Well if that were true then I guess their songs must all be number 1's then.

Each and every song can not be great and that goes for everyone. (including the Beatles which I adore, a few were just OK)

As everything else, opinions vary. I actually like the song with Annette as shown above.

The Sherman brothers are good. Look at all the songs they wrote and they have quite a few winners.

Anyway, back to topic. Any stirrings at Tiki room?
