Because that was so well written, I'm going to go ahead and change my vote. I understand what that poster's comment means now. I humbly take back any of the snark some may have perceived was behind my post. (Which was not at all my intention)
Ah, I love a happy ending.

just to expand on slowjack's excellent point about nostalgia: i think most people who would consider themselves WDW fundamentalists with a nostalgic spot soft would say they yearn more for the old school disney spirit rather than the physical attraction.
That's spot on for me. The original Epcot, for instance, was filled with a spirit of optimism that seems largely absent now. When I first went (circa '83), the attractions in Future World were awe-inspiring. The first time I rode Horizons, I didn't know what to expect, and then--all those cool show scenes, the unexpected visuals, and smells, even, and then finding myself four stories up on a giant movie screen...wow, I was amazed.

But I'm well aware that if the exact original attractions were returned, they would decidedly not be awe-inspiring to a first-time guest. What I'd like to see is something that's true to that optimistic future vision, while being as amazing for the guests of today.

I think Stitch gets a bad wrap simply because of Alien Encounter. They softened a hard ride. Stitch just happened to be the face of said softening.

I think the apprehension with stitch is beyond just sge, it is the way that we (wdw fans) dislike cloning and franchise smothering.

I'm pretty sure the dislike of Stitch is, as people say, overuse. If he just had that one attraction, then fine. If he had just been given that prominent place on stop of the DTD store, then fine. If he had just be given a stage show in Tomorrowland (?why?) then fine. But he got all three and more, and the movie isn't really a classic, so it just becomes a rallying point for all of the perceived problems of the late 90's early 2000's.

Well, we WDW fans are loud and have strong opinions that Disney undoubtedly hears, but Disney also has to please those park guests who don't go as often and as such are likely much quieter. People who have never been on the original alien encounter likely wouldn't react as negatively to the revamped Stitch version.

Of course the number of WDW fans vs not-as-ofteners may not be 50-50. Its probably more like 70-30. Which means they should still listen to us. Hah.

well it is may 10th and unm hasn't reopened, so there is that. if disney added stitch, someone would have posted something about it by now because most of us want something like the original back.

I thought there was a post that said that the reopening was delayed till June (or July-- I can't remember).

Actually, first time visitors make up 40% of WDW's annual attendance. With repeats and internationals taking up the majority of the rest. Us die-hard fans and AP's (also CM's) make up such a minuscule percentage of their overall attendance that I'm sure our opinion matters very little.

At DLR, the exact opposite is true. The vast majority of their attendance comes from die-hard fans, so their vocal opinion is often heard and acted upon.

While I hardly think who makes up the bulk of your attendance should be the basis for decisions on what does and does not happen, I do believe that many of the die-hard fans have the best interests of the parks at heart and that if Disney would listen to us just a little bit more, they wouldn't be sitting there scratching their heads as to why their latest on-the-cheap investment didn't net nearly as much revenue as they anticipated.

New take on the original

I recently had occasion to talk to a cast member who works in Adventureland and I was able to pick her brain about the plans for The Tiki Room. She told me that what she had heard was that Disney was planning on putting a new spin on the old attraction. Purists will most likely have mixed feelings as she said the classic Tiki Room song will be featured but it will not be the exact same show as we remember from the 70s and 80s. She thinks they are going to stay true to the original concept and keep the same 4 main characters but come up w/ some new songs while still maintaining a sort of tribute to the original show. She also thought there'd be a new pre-show (which makes sense since Phil Hartman, the voice of one of the pre-show birds, is dead).

That sounds interesting--that would actually be the approach I would hope for, really. I should point out that a new pre-show isn't an absolute requirement, unless Hartman's death left them so shattered they destroyed all copies of his audio work.

The phil hartman pre show was tailored made for unm, it would not make sense with unm being removed.

This sounds good to me. I know there's been some debate about the Tiki-Stitch version in Tokyo but there's some elements there that I wouldn't mind seeing in the WDW show. In TDL, the cockatoos descend singing, "On the Beach at Waikiki". Of course, it's in Japanese and they're all wearing blue Stitch ears while singing but I digress... :lookaroun Anyway, the TDL show maintains a Polynesian theme in spite of an obnoxious blue alien joining the show so I wouldn't mind the middle section (Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing) replaced with something with a little more "Aloha Spirit".

That could be an element added. I think what we will get will be as mysterious as the Christmas present from a great aunt that lives away in Arizona.
