I was just in Disneyland last week and got to talking to the Cast Member about WDW's Tiki Room. She was so nice and tracked me down in the crowd just to tell me that Imagineers have been in the attraction at DL taking photos. You take it with a grain of salt. It would really be neat to see it return but who knows. Fingers crossed.

First, we will bulldoze ours when yours goes too... I love our Tiki Room as much as you all love yours..... so No Thanks.

Secondly, from what I have been lead to understand the footprint of the Tiki Room is relatively small so it is not really a good candidate for that complete change...

Thirdly, YOUR Tiki Room was intended to be a reasaurant.....hence your restrooms.. Ours was designed to be an attraction and nothing more....

Fourthly, let me say that when I was at your Tiki Room last October that I loved every moment of it...... I am thankful that your fan community prevented UNM from being placed there too...... and yes your Maynard is awesome!

Haha! If we bulldoze our Tiki Room, then you will have to put a crappy version of Innoventions in your COP. Deal?

I'm just saying, it makes more sense to put in something all-new w/o singing birds rather than spending the $$$ to restore it to the old show that will be popular for one season ala Captain EO. With EO though it was just a matter of switching out film/signage and some seat effects. With Tiki Room it's much costlier w/ new animatronics and programming. And look, me personally, I'm perfectly happy with the original show returning. I think it's great, but I know that most guests unfortunately don't care about it or understand why it's important (just like the COP). I'm just thinking rationally here as to what makes sense long-term now that they're forced to take action on the show one way or another.

Glad you got to experience Maynard! He seems to be planted permanently at Tiki Room these days, but it's fun to see him elsewhere too -- especially at the Haunted Mansion when he busts out his glow-in-the-dark finger puppets in the stretching room, ha!!!

....and do you think Disney can do to put in that tiny space?? A new resteraunt? Restrooms? A shop?

I've got an idea! Change the preshow and the inside into a resteraunt, but the inside can have the original show performing after an hour each time it ends. That would be a first for Disney. It would be pretty popular, you could have a small comedy show with two birds in that preshow area, or you can eat in the main room with the original tiki room show, or you have a 3rd option of Disney replacing the Magic Carpets of Aladdin with another outdoor part of the resteraunt with the two preshows that Disneyland has explaining the tiki gods and stuff. I think it would be a great idea!

Already been done and people aren't exactly lining up at the door to see it. Check out Sonny Eclipse over in tomorrow land. His show loops on the hour and is essentially background noise, most ignore it while they eat if they even care about the show at all.

Well, that's because that is a quick-serve restaurant full of people on the go. To do it the right way, this would have to be a nicer, sit down experience -- something to make guests feel like they are getting something beyond the traditional Disney meal.

I have heard direct from the source (upper Management as well as a cast member) that it will be back to the original show:sohappy:

+1 and you are my best friend today! :)

Awesome news there too...Im liking these posts!

You keep your claws off our Tiki Room and we will keep our claws out of yours! :)

I actually enjoy the show even now as an old 44 year old lol... I always see people competing to snag front row tables to watch the show while they eat..... Would be nice if they added to it....I think its like 20 minutes or so long.... I have it on my Ipod though :) sometimes breaks up the boringness of walk-exercise periods :)

While I like Sonny Eclipse and all, his isn't a real show. No special affects. His show is more boring than the tiki room, he could use an upgrade.

He's not even a real show, he's (as you said) background music. The Tiki Room would be alot better when the lights go dim a bit and all of the birds and stuff, it would be entertaining enough for people to look around and actually listen to the music.

I'm happy we won't be getting that problem since we already have an Innoventions at EPCOT. I'm happy we have CoP. I love the show. But Disneyland needs a couple of crappy things like WDW just to make it even. :animwink:

Even tho WDW still has alot more bad rides than DLR

We have enjoyed Sonny, it is a cool way that disney themed a huge CS. The problem with sonny is that it is only an hour loop that hasn't been updated in the last decade +. It would not be that hard to have disney record more songs with Kal David.

there is a whole lot on there I would not hold my breath for.

But poster wanted to bring back Horizons with an update. Have you ever heard a DisneyParks Traditionalist want an old ride back AND also have it updated? Doesn't that seem contradictory?

Obviously it would have to be updated, but still - a very strange mix.

I would have expected most "traditionalists" (certainly myself included) would certainly want to see classic attractions return with appropriate updates which build upon the original. Many, I suspect, might indeed prefer an updated original Journey into Imagination over a new version 4.0 of the attraction (less chance Disney would mess that up...again).

Sure, in my dreams I might like to see Horizons one more time just as it was the last time I rode, before they apply the updates, but in reality - even by traditional Disney standards - there is no need to recreate a lost attraction "to a fault". If you wanted to faithfully recreate the Hall of Presidents version of 20 years ago, you still wouldn't omit the last three Presidents. Imagine if Spaceship Earth had been lost instead of Horizons, and they rebuilt the current version as a recreation. Other than the vastly inferior descent segment, for which there would be calls to put it back just like it was, the attraction is still much the same attraction we've always known, with evolutionary rather than revolutionary changes over the years.

But an updated Horizon's wouldn't be the Horizon's you loved. Its contradictory to be nostalgic for something and want it updated. At that point the updated attraction would cease being the thing you remembered. It would then become a 4.0 of sorts.

I'm just being dramatic, sure, but I think its odd to want an old ride back and want it to be newer.

Hardly contradictory. The nostalgia may not just be for the specific, but spirit and ideas behind the attraction, the message or the boundary pushing. Sometimes the nostalgia built because the old was simply better than the new. Look at the little projects at Disneyland like the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough or Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Hey! I like Sonny Eclipse!

Enjoy it every time I go to Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe.

Agree that it could use a slight refresh with the entertainer who does Sonny doing a few more songs.
