Any experience adding people to a reservation at the restaurant?

We have a adr for Ohana's for 4 adults and 1 child but we have some friends (2 adults 1 infant) who would like to join us for dinner but when I called dining, they said we couldn't add anyone and suggested we go to a different restaurant. Will we have any luck at the podium? The tables at ohana are pretty big.

To go to that from a 5 top to an 8 top is going to be tough. You can try, but you may be at separate tables or told that only the 5 of you can eat.

I've never been turned away, but have had to wait a lot longer. I don't do it often, but showing up at the podium with extra bodies and explaining that I ran into friends and would like to add them has always worked...

"Always" being "twice"

In some restaurants you could might do it (depending on the season on the crowds), but the chances of it happening at Ohana are slim to none.

Last time we ate at Ohana there were 4 adults and 2 kids (an infant and a 3 year old) and they gave us a HUGE table. I'm hoping since we only have to add two more adults an one 1 year old, it won't be a big deal and they can just give us the table that they were planning to do any way.

They generally won't turn you away, but be prepared to wait a lot longer...and potentially deal with a snarky CM. I have had last minute additions to meals and we almost always have been able to make it happen. The only place that ever turned away the extra people was Le Cellier, but that is not exactly surprising.

How was the cast member snarky?

Well, not all of them get snarky, but some just make it seem like the biggest inconvenience in the world to rearrange stuff. I know it is far from easy for them to start shuffling tables around, but it isn't exactly the end of the world either. I am always very, very nice when I request adding people to an existing ADR. However, I am sure this is not the norm and the podium CMs get yelled at constantly (I have seen it happen many times). As we all know, there are plenty of people walking around WDW with an overwhelming sense of entitlement. :lookaroun

Be careful talking about entitlement...you might be called "IG-NOR-ANT" - like I was!

Who would dare??? :lookaroun

Back to the original poster, I actually added 4 people at Le Cellier once. Like others have said, we just waited a little longer, but we still got in.

we added two to equal a party of seven for narcoossee's the day after christmas last year (08). we called about 2 hours before our reservation time and they fit us in without a wait. we had a great experience and everyone in our group had a great meal.

Did you call the restaurant directly?

Yes
We did it at Le Celier...It was only one person though and it was right before they switched from Lunch to Dinner so it was sort of slow there.

Just to play devil's advocate here, isn't doing this kind of a strain on other people? In many cases it will cause everyone behind the group adding people to have to wait longer unless I am missing something?

If I was waiting in a party of 4 and then I was told it would be another 15 minutes because the party of two being seated brought two more friends in at the last minute, and now needed a 4 person table it would be kind of frustrating.

Just a thought.
